WASHINGTON - Drug companies told lawmakers Tuesday that they project a major increase in vaccine deliveries that will result in 140 million more doses over the next five weeks, saying they have solved manufacturing challenges and are in a position to overcome scarcity that has hampered the nation's fight against the coronavirus.

Hazardous winter conditions delayed the distribution of 6 million doses of coronavirus vaccines this week, the White House announced Friday, hindering lifesaving vaccine drives just as they were gaining momentum.
The delayed doses amount to a three-day supply, and this week's winter storms have slowed the arrival of vaccine in all 50 states, according to Andy Slavitt, the White House's senior adviser on the government's response to covid-19. President Joe Biden, speaking at a Pfizer plant in Kalamazoo, Mich., that manufacturers coronavirus vaccine, said the weather is "slowing up the distribution" of vaccine.

NASA has selected four new flight directors to oversee operations of the International Space Station, the agency announced.
These individuals join an elite group of 101 people who have worked in Houston's Mission Control Center leading flight controllers, engineers and other professionals at NASA and its international partners.
“Our flight directors are at the forefront of everything that humans do in space,” NASA Flight Operations Director Steve Koerner said in a Monday news release. “We place a huge responsibility upon them individually to take any necessary action to ensure the safety of our astronauts, the safety of the spacecraft, and to accomplish the mission. These four join a storied group of individuals. We’re excited to have them and know they are up for the task.”

Biden returns prayer breakfast to lofty tone after disruption of Trump years

Biden returns prayer breakfast to lofty tone after disruption of Trump years

WASHINGTON - At last year's National Prayer Breakfast, President Donald Trump brandished newspapers headlined "Trump acquitted" and simply "ACQUITTED" to boast of his recent impeachment victory; aimed thinly veiled attacks at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah; and challenged the notion that Christians should strive to love their enemies.
At this year's online version of the event on Thursday, President Joe Biden took a far lower-key approach, citing the recent assault on the Capitol to criticize violence and urge bipartisanship. "We know now we must confront and defeat political extremism, White supremacy and domestic terrorism," Biden said.
