Now two years removed from the Jan. 6 insurrection, most of the Western New Yorkers charged with storming the U.S. Capitol building that day have resolved their cases, but some cases are ongoing.
Western New York had a somewhat significant amount of involvement in the events of Jan. 6. Of the more than 725 people charged by the U.S. Department of Justice for storming the Capitol, six are from Erie County.

William Michael Sywak and his son William Jason Sywak are both facing charges of knowingly entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a restricted building or grounds and disorderly conduct on Captiol grounds. According to court paperwork, the two originally admitted they went to the Capitol on Jan. 6 but denied going into the building, but their stories unraveled when the FBI showed them pictures from inside the building.
