ILGA Portugal receives about three complaints a week from gay men prevented from donating blood, although the Institute of Blood guarantees that it does not question sexual orientation.
According to a report by Lusa news agency, one case of this is that of Bruno Gomes d’Almeida, who experienced discrimination on Saturday, 23 January, when, together with several hundred people, he went to the fixed donation post of the Portuguese Institute for Blood and Transplantation in Lisbon after the Portuguese Institute for Blood and Transplantation (IPST) made an appeal for blood donations.

According to the Withdrawal Agreement signed between the United Kingdom and the European Union, if you were legally living in Portugal before the 31st of December 2020, the rights you enjoyed as a resident before Brexit are protected.
Nevertheless, you will need to take steps to obtain a new residence permit that confirms your status as beneficiary of the Withdrawal Agreement.
If you are a holder of an EU Registration Certificate (issued by the Town Hall) or a Permanent Residence Certificate/card (issued by SEF), you should register to exchange your current documents at: https://brexit.sef.pt/en/. After registering on the portal and submitting the form, you may download your registration confirmation. If you travel abroad, you should present your passport and proof of residence in Portugal to the immigration officer at the border.

Campers are choosing campsites in the Algarve to comply with the confinement imposed due to Covid-19 pandemic, some combing nature with remote working, while highlighting the safety of the region.
In the middle of the trees of the Eco Camp da Salema, in Budens, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, the area reserved for campervans has an occupation of more than a hundred people, but this year it is not only mainly retired tourists on the site. “Our site used to mainly cater for senior campers in the Algarve but that has now changed completely.

The Drowned Village

The Drowned Village
This gem has found a particularly good spot to hide away. Though it is out of sight for most of the year, during the dry season the Village of Vilarinho da Furna emerges from the water and presents its ancient ruins dating back some 2000 years.
It is said that this village in the municipality of Terras de Bouro, Braga district, was founded in the first century during roman times. Located downstream from the Rio Homem, it became a peaceful place to live over the years, until 1967 when the construction of a dam began.
It was clear that if the dam were to be built, the village would flood and hundreds would lose their homes. So the Portuguese Electricity Company (Companhia Portuguesa de Electricidade) offered a small amount of money to each of the about 300 villagers to pack up and move away from what was soon to be Portugal’s very own Atlantis.

Vale da Lama

Vale da Lama
A farm that’s leaving their carbon footprint in the mud (and having vegetables grow out of it).
Vale da Lama, or as it translates into English ‘The Valley of the Mud’
is, well.. it’s many things. I first heard of them when The Portugal News got an email letting us know about a ‘Farm to Fork’ event they hosted in December. I loved the idea of a place where you can go and eat what they grow, and the very well put together website showed a birds eye view of the quite vast and impressive farm. Words like ‘Syntropic Agroforestry’ and ‘Planned Holistic Grazing’ jumped out at me, and even though I had missed the opportunity to get their food on the end of my fork, I just had to find out more.
