number of vaccinated people in this country. >> here's what this internal document argues that officials must acknowledge the war has changed when it comes to the delta variant. dr. reiner, "the washington post" spoke with someone working with the cdc on delta. they point to the outbreak in province, massachusetts, showing that vaccinated people were transmitting the virus to other vaccinated people. and the person who spoke to "the post" called it a canary in the coal mine. this is something that happened in p-town and had been discussed among people in the gay community. and not widely discussed among health officials. it's did you know such and such had a breakthrough? and it's hundreds of people. who does this mean going forward in how we protect ourselves?

with the cdc on delta. and they point to the outbreak in provincetown, massachusetts. shows vaccinated people were transmitting the virus to other vaccinated people and the person who spoke to "the post" called it a canary in the coal mine. listen. i have been -- this is -- this is something that happened in p-town. and um, had been discussed among people in the gay community. and not widely discussed among health officials. and now, it's coming to light. it's been getting, hey, did you know such and such and such and such had a breakthrough thing, whatever. and it is now hundreds of people. what does this mean, going forward, in how we protect ourselves? >> yeah, very simple. everyone in this country should be masking in public. you know, we've been doing this, you know, for a while. physicians have been doing this for a while. us continuing to wear masks in congested-public places. now, i think the simple advice to the -- to the entire country

deaths 40 averaging per day over the last week. look at these weekly changes. all way up. deaths up 22% week over week. 83% hospitalizations. 61% up on cases. why? i think a few things. one, the delta variant. very big there. two, there is a bit of seasonality to this. if you compare the map from last year to this year you see some similarities. i won't dismiss that either. there is no doubt if these states were perhaps better vaccinated including florida we would expect these numbers to be lower. >> the variant. the best data shows that the vaccines work against it as well. how so? >> i would be very cautious in understanding there is still not that much data in on delta but the best data was from a houston, texas study taking place march 15 to july 3rd. what we know is against all the other variants of the cases coming in 94% were among the nonfully vaccinated. against delta it is not nearly as strong. look at that. still 80% among the nonfully

understanding there is still not that much data in on delta but the best data was from a houston, texas study taking place march 15 to july 3rd. what we know is against all the other variants of the cases coming in 94% were among the nonfully vaccinated. against delta it is not nearly as strong. look at that. still 80% among the nonfully vaccinated just 20% among the nonfully vaccinated. if there is one thing you take away from this is yes the vaccines probably don't work as well against the delta variant than the others but they still do work and they especially work on the severe illnesses, hospitalizations, and deaths. if there is anyone in the audience i implore you go out there and get a vaccinated because the vaccines do work even against delta. you may save your life in doing so. >> remember something we learned that may not be that obvious. the vaccine keeps you from getting sick hopefully. nothing is perfect. but it also mitigates or reduces your ability to get somebody else sick.
