67, 67, and 72, those are tremendous outliars because the average age of the shooters, of shooters we see nowadays is the early 30s. so look at it this way. so for 67, 68 years, 72 years in the monterey park case. these men were able to navigate through life, handle stressors, maybe not particularly well, handle being upset, maybe angry at the workplace, but they did have coping behaviors and then now all of a sudden those coping behaviors are not what they should be, they are not relying on them. i found it very interesting when both were back to back and it also made me wonder about the copycater, the contagion effect in the shootings that we see in younger shooters. >> andrew, from a law enforcement perspective and looking at the data, do mass shootings often come in sort of waves of tragedy like that,
have issued statements calling this law a violation of the second amendment and saying they're not going to check. they're not going to have their offices check to ensure that lawful gun owners register weapons with the state. i mean, what do you do about that problem? >> it's political grandstanding by elected officials. these are elected sheriffs. they are republicans. they're in favor of more guns, not less on the streets which doesn't make any sense to me. all the other law enforcement in our state are very much in favor of taking assault weapons off the streets. so frankly, they're the outliars. i know they're loud in their opposition to this. it's our state police and law enforcement across the state that will enforce this law. and these outlier sheriffs will
alphabetical order, they didn't even get past the cs, sealing a round one loss in a matter of minutes. mccarthy failing to whittle down the small but significant group of republican outliars all dead set on voting against him. the damage a failed first vote like this will inflict on the speakership position from the get go even if he does win, if it's a mess for republicans, a mess for mccarthy and it is shaping up to be a long day ahead for the brand-new 118th congress. he reminded reporters he holds the record for the longest speech ever delivered on the house floor, saying he doesn't care if he gets a similar vote for most speaker vote rounds. we will see if that holds and he sticks to his guns there. joining me from capitol hill, we
i think one of the most interesting things about the politics of this is how the republican party has changed. in my time in congress, there would be no question that the republican party would be monolithic in its support for ukraine, and you see real cracks in the republican party right now, more so in the democratic party. i mean, my successor, josh hawley, and marjorie taylor greene didn't even show up for zelenskyy's speech. and many of the republicans refused to applaud. so that's the other crack that's coming. that's how are they going to navigate this funding with a real scism in the republican party. >> it's richard haass, this question of supporting ukraine, which i actually think is a big one, yes, does the outliars in -- outliers who may not be interesting. whether the support should extend to liberating crimea, whether the only acceptable definition of success is going back to the pre-2014, 1991

resolution, keeping the government open requiring both teams to come to an agreement. there was a lot of back and forth about whether or not this resolution would go to the end of january and mid february. i think we should have made that deal earlier so this few outliars, even though the shutdown would only be through the weekend, the amount of money wasted would blow people's minds. so coming to an agreement about how we keep the government open earlier. >> earlier a house of two dozen senators urged nancy pelosi on a way to fix supply chain issues. do you think that they are balancing appropriately the
