in a painful twist of fate, we're standing on what was the foundation -- it's still the foundation but not much else of the glenallen fire department. this is basically now just completely destroyed it's now a concrete slab with just pieces of the building and litter basically at this point, just kind of scattered around it we have a ladder here. we have firefighter uniforms here in the background we're told firefighters were racing here in the wake of the tornado to get their equipment and help victims when the tornado destroyed this building after destroying several homes you can see efforts to get power restored here in glenallen are ongoing, crews have been speeding all around town trying to get power poles back up, trying to get power turned back on for everybody in the area who still doesn't have electricity, but just look at the wreckage basically in the foreground of that shot. this is what we're seeing all over town. people here again absolutely devastated we just talked to a state trooper here in town, authorities here in town telling us they know that this has been happening in other communities

from the middle of the tornado took everything in its path and through its thrown it to the sides and literally snapping power poles, toppling trees, moving houses off their foundations, if not completely, destroying them, scattering them across the neighborhoods here, and i want to show you what we filmed last night because there was active search and rescue operations that were taking place. we spoke to some of the search and rescue first responders and they were going house to house to house. checking to see if there was anyone inside and the way that they confirmed that no one was indeed indoors or there was no way needing help as they would spray paint a green x on the side of the building. a all too familiar sight been covering natural disasters for years. we see that it's not something we want to witness, but it's an honest part of the story here. when we start talking about this type of catastrophic damage picture. we've seen this damage for several days now across several parts of this country

through these areas that have been damaged and trying to really assess now that we have daylight, the full scope of what happened here but with thousands of people throughout tennessee straight-line winds absolute made a big impact on the electric grid here. that's going to take some time in this community where i am this morning at least half of this entire county is without power. utility crews say because of the size of the power poles brought down here was going to be through the weekend. we do have several homes without roofs here. with outbuildings destroyed pre-that's the type of damage we are seeing on the tennessee side of things. there is never a tornado warning issued here. we did have the stroke wind gusts associate with the severe thunderstorm warning that we think he did a lot of this damage but of course the national weather service is going to get assessing this to get their official information ruling on what likely happened in this scenario. a lot of pain this morning not only here in the tennessee side of things but just absolutely unbelievable images coming in from our neighbors in mississippi, neil.

here is this major highway and i've seen here throughout the day. just an increase in the number of resources coming heavy machinery and equipment that will help them dig through that debris a lot quicker and get help to anyone who might need it. and you mentioned the emergency declaration that governor tate reeves just declared a couple of minutes ago . that will be huge. that'll free up resources and money to get this community the help that it needs. also we saw 18 t trucks coming in and restoring cell service. important communication that will happen between the first responders, and we're also utility trucks coming in and putting new power poles. fema team is on the way to assess the damage here and see how they can help. what sort of resources are needed here as well. we also spoke with tracy harden, who is the owner of chuck's dairy bar. which if you look right behind me, that's

large scale just by the sheer number of first responders and ambulances that we were passing by on the road. and as soon as we got into the city here the scene. it is just like a bomb went off. this tornado has been devastating and just awful for this community of rolling fork and nearby communities as well, in fact, take a look right behind me. right over here. you can see just the sheer devastation twisted metal power lines. just put all over the middle of the ground buildings that seemingly have been wiped off and right in the back over there, you see that silver truck position. it's not supposed to be in. that was a restaurant that's beloved here. this is where people would come and get their lunch their dinner. this is known to this community. and now it is just utter debris. it has this tornado the strong winds just from the ground and really snapped power poles like
