Peak Vista vaccinates 200 local homeless people

The March 10-11 event was the first to serve the local homeless community.
Heidi Beedle
Peak Vista Community Health Centers and Springs Rescue Mission partnered to provide 200 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to the Colorado Springs homeless community during a two-day event, March 10 and 11 at Springs Rescue Mission. It was the first vaccine event to specifically target homeless individuals in Colorado Springs.
“This is a turning point for the community,” says Jack Briggs, president and CEO of Springs Rescue Mission. “If you think about homelessness, there are three things you’re trying to address: The first is health, the second is their housing, and the third is work. You can’t get to housing or work if they’re not healthy. The COVID virus has had impact in a lot of communities, but particularly in the homeless community — it’s isolated them even more than before. By getting them vaccinated and prepared to re-enter society, whether it’s in housing or work, having this in their portfolio of health is going to be very important.”

One year later pandemic has fostered collaboration, innovation

Before late 2019, most Coloradans associated the word “pandemic” with disaster movies and novels.
But on March 5, 2020, the reality of the pandemic hit home as Gov. Jared Polis announced the state’s first confirmed COVID-19 case. One day later, the first case in El Paso County was reported.
The virus has wrought economic havoc and unleashed turmoil both in the business world and personal lives — and some of its effects will continue to be felt long after the threshold of herd immunity is reached.
But it has also kindled positive changes, from medical advances to increased collaborative efforts that will linger after the pandemic fades.

Roberts focuses on efficiency, rebranding

Adam Roberts believes that recognizing the mind and body as two parts of the same system is one of the keys to overall health.
Since May 2019, Roberts has been the president and chief executive officer at Diversus Health, the largest community mental and behavioral health provider in southern Colorado. It’s also one of the region’s oldest organizations, founded 145 years ago as a company that distributed coal, lumber and clothing to miners in the Rockies before it shifted its focus.
Roberts wants to bring Diversus further into the future by creating more efficient processes and a brand that speaks clearly to the public.

Texans don't have to prove they're eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, and some are jumping the line. Here's why. | Coronavirus

When a new mom in Austin found out that COVID-19 vaccine appointments were open in Killeen, she sent her healthy, 28-year-old husband and her 65-year-old mother to get their injections.
Both were vaccinated, despite only one of them being eligible under the priority groups outlined by Texas state health officials.
“I mostly sent them to get vaccines to protect me and for our newborn baby’s sake since [my husband] tends to see more friends,” said the 37-year-old woman, who requested anonymity for fear of public retribution.
Tensions over so-called “line jumpers” are high as Texas scrambles to vaccinate the majority of its 29 million residents, reduce deaths and hospitalizations, and stem the spread of the virus among highly vulnerable communities of color.

Pamplin Media Group - Dinosaurs take over OMSI

Dinosaurs take over OMSI
The exhibit of animatronics, skeletons, fossils and more opens March 20; so, stay away COVID
Will it be third time's the charm for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry?
Not unlike what has happened with other museums and public attractions, OMSI opened two exhibits in the past year and had to shut down each of them because of the COVID-19 pandemic and government restrictions — "Body Worlds" lasted a week, and then a while more after reopening, and "Genghis Khan" only two weeks.
Now, the museum is planning "Dinosaurs Revealed," March 20 through Sept. 6. It's a big, new exhibit with 26 animatronic dinosaurs, skeletons and fossils, and you can time-travel in the form of designated environments and presentations for the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
