BELLEVUE, Wash. — Last week's heatwave is history, but it's still causing problems at several beaches in western Washington, where it's not safe to swim because of high bacteria levels.
Three King County beaches are closed. Several saltwater beaches in the region are under advisories, meaning it's not safe for children, older people, and those with underlying health conditions to swim.

A bronze plaque placed at 330 Alexander St. in Nevada City commemorates the homesite of Preston Alexander, who along with his family were some of the first African American settlers in Nevada City in the mid-1850s. The plaque was unveiled earlier this week.

Ten people gathered this week to unveil a plaque of one of Nevada City’s first Black settlers, Preston Alexander.
Born in Virginia, Alexander settled with his wife Louisa Alexander in 1854 in Nevada City.
Bernard Zimmerman, of the Nevada County Historical Landmarks Commission, said this plaque is just one opportunity to highlight the region’s historic “ethnic” communities.

Water treatment giant Ecolab Inc. sued its former marketing manager, Preston Alexander, and his new company, One Degree Medical, alleging Alexander stole trade secrets to set up a competing business in violation of his employment agreement and state and federal trade secrets laws.
In this case, both Ecolab and Alexander’s new company sell systems for managing the temperature of patients and body tissue during surgery. In other words, they were direct competitors. Ecolab claimed that the day before Alexander’s last day of employment with Ecolab that Alexander emailed confidential files that contained detailed product sales information to his personal Gmail address. The files contained highly-confidential and proprietary spreadsheets consisting of detailed data and compilations of data containing Ecolab’s sales histories, including detailed pricing information, customer information, customer purchase histories, and servicing information for Ecolab’s patient temperature management products.
