Boss Moves on PBS in August

Boss Action with
Miss Goldie will move from 7pm into 3pm every Saturday.  Miss Goldie’s mix of rare 45s and killer funk and soul will sit beautifully on a Saturday afternoon, and it makes complete sense that such a PBS favourite moves from a one-hour program into this two-hour slot.  We were devastated to lose our dear friend Pierre Baroni and Soulgroove ’66 earlier this year, but delighted that his great friend Miss Goldie will be the new custodian of 3pm-5pm every Saturday on PBS.
Boss Action will hit this new time-slot from Saturday August 21.
We welcome
Suzi Hutchings to the PBS program roster, taking up the

EA on Radio Adelaide: Understanding Iran
Azadi Square in Tehran, Iran, under Coronavirus curfew conditions
I joined Australia’s Radio Adelaide on Tuesday for a 25-minute special examining Iran: its internal issues and dynamics, its situation in the region, and its maneuvers with global powers amid talks on the 2015 nuclear deal and conflict with Israel.
*Iranian and Israeli roles in the Syrian conflict
*Will there be widespread Iran-Israel military confrontation?
*The “hardliners” in Iran, including the Revolutionary Guards
*Was the 2015 nuclear deal a bad deal?
*Will Iran pursue a nuclear bomb?
*Should a renewed nuclear deal cover missiles and drones?

EA on Radio Adelaide: Syria - Deaths, War Crimes, and Power Politics

Posted by Scott Lucas | Apr 14, 2021 |
Opposition rally in Hama, July 22, 2011
I joined Australia’s Radio Adelaide on Tuesday for a 20-minute special analyzing Syria’s 121-month conflict, from the Assad regime’s mass killings and war crimes to the power politics involving Russia, Iran, Turkey, the US, and other actors.
We begin with the reality of three “Syrias” rather than a single country. We then consider the motives of Russia — taking advantage of the “indecision” of US Administrations — to “become the dominant political influence across much of the country”, including the use of paramilitary forces and disinformation. From there, we move to the Turkish intervention, including its influence in the opposition-held northwest and its pressure on the Kurdish-controlled northeast, and consider the past, present, and future of the US position.

I joined Australia’s Radio Adelaide for an introduction to the rise of the populist radical right in Europe, and its status amid the crisis of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The discussion draws upon the research and findings of the Populism in Action Project, with cases such as Italy and Belgium, as well as examples such as the tactics of Nigel Farage in the UK.

Energy: IEEFA Australia: ANZ divesting from the world's largest coal export port is 'pragmatism'

The biggest buyers of Australian thermal coal have committed to net-zero emissions
ANZ, Australia’s third largest bank, has decided to stop lending to the Port of Newcastle, the world’s largest thermal coal export terminal, under its new climate change policy to cut funding to the coal sector, including the associated infrastructure and service providers.
To look at the background to the bank’s divestment, Barometer’s Des Lawrence spoke with IEEFA’s Tim Buckley, Director of Energy Finance, Australia/South Asia.
Buckley says ANZ made an “entirely pragmatic decision” due to concerns that the port’s legal constraint, imposed by the NSW Premier, prevents it from diversifying – such that the port will become a stranded asset as the world rapidly moves away from thermal coal. A point that was made abundantly clear when the biggest buyers of Australian thermal coal, Japan, China and South Korea, committed to net-zero emissions last year.
