Panama Invites Travelers to Experience the Destination's Heritage | Travel

(BPT) - Panama has long been regarded as the ‘Bridge of the World’ connecting the Americas, and its unique location provides visitors with the experience of a lifetime. The Central American country is gifted with having a wide range of rainforests, a desert, beaches on both of its coastlines, the Caribbean, and the Pacific all within driving distance of a cosmopolitan, modern city. Due to its small size and snake-like geographical shape, visitors can travel from one coast to the other in a matter of hours, making it the only place on Earth where you can see the sunrise on the Pacific Ocean and see it set on the Atlantic.

Tico Times #TBT: A 1947 documentary of Costa Rica

It’s Throwback Thursday, which means we take a look at Costa Rica’s past.
The nine-minute documentary showcases life in Costa Rica in the 1940s, as viewed through the lens of United States filmmaker James A. Fitzpatrick.
The video starts at Costa Rica’s international airport at La Sabana (now the Art Museum) and includes scenes from downtown San José, on a banana farm, atop Poás and Irazú volcanoes, and of the country’s “delicately beautiful” orchids.
According to the narrator, “the roads of Costa Rica are among the best of the world.” Those were the days!

Costa Rica passes major milestone in opening up to superyacht charters
The result comes after a landmark vote 47-0 in favour of far-reaching reforms to the existing charter laws…
Following the recent sitting of the Costa Rica Legislative Assembly (Congress), Fraser, working alongside the Costa Rica Marina Association, has shared the result of a landmark vote 47-0 in favour of far-reaching reforms of the existing charter laws. The reform will allow chartered superyachts over 24m to charter legally and remain in Costa Rican water for up to one year and is the result of a longstanding collaboration between the Costa Rica Marina Association and Fraser.

Catching Up With Timothy Olson – iRunFar

“Pura vida! It’s such a touristy thing to say, but it’s Costa Rica,”
Timothy Olson emphasized of the popular Costa Rica saying that means “pure life” in Spanish. He continues, “Once you get out of the capital city of San Jose, it really is pura vida. It’s more relaxed, it’s a different atmosphere, and it’s one that I love.”
I love it too, and held onto Olson’s every word about his life between Costa Rica and the U.S. “We went in November of 2019 and stayed almost nine months–our visa kept getting extended. We came back to the U.S. in June 2020 and stayed four months before going back to Costa Rica last fall,” he said of the back and forth. “With everything going on, it was nice to be in a small community. All of my runs were by myself. I see farmers and that’s it, I’ve become friends with a lot of them.” The Olson family has just returned from another four-month stay in Costa Rica and is now back in Boulder, Colorado. We back up to his start in Costa Rica though.

Top Fishing App Helps Costa Rica Anglers

Since man began taking fish from the ocean, they have used natural occurrences and eventually man-made technology to help them find fish.
Before modern fish-finder sonar, grouper fishermen would pack a heavy brass bell with soap and drop it to the bottom on a line. They would bounce it a couple of times on the bottom and retrieve it.
If sand was stuck to the soap, they would move on. If pieces of rock or fragments of coral were embedded in the soap, they knew they were over good grouper habitat and fish there.
There’s a place in the Golfo Dulce near Pavones that, most of the time, the fishing isn’t very good. But if you’re there in a certain moon phase, on a certain tide, you will catch nice 10-pound-plus corvina one right after another.

Azita Ardakani is happiest walking in any forest by the Pacific, where she's grounded in the earth beneath her and can feel the enormous power of the ocean next to her. As an entrepreneur, innovator and design student, her sense of reverence for the natural world led her to become curious about the way that nature solves problems.
For Ardakani, a walk outdoors is a master class in design principles. These organisms tend to be "responsive, self-regulated, modular and nested, self-organized and maintain integrity with their own self-renewal," she says.

Sustainable Experiences in Latin America

9 sustainable experiences in Latin America
From horseriding with Argentinian cowboys to planting trees in Peru, here are nine ways your next trip to Latin America can benefit the environment and local communities
1. Explore primary rainforest in Costa Rica

Sustainability and environmental awareness are at the heart of Costa Rica’s tourism ethos, with the country receiving the UN's highest environmental honour, the Champions of the Earth award.
Exodus Travels’ Discover Costa Rica tour spends two nights in the south of the country at Esquinas Rainforest Lodge, which is 100 per cent carbon-neutral.
The lodge is set within 47 hectares of primary and secondary rainforest that was saved from logging in 1992. It is also surrounded by more than 3,000 hectares of untouched primary forest. The lodge is an excellent example of how to successfully combine conservation, environmental research and community development in a rural area. Most staff are local and profits are reinvested into the community to help fund local healthcare and education services.
