爱造佛塔的唐密开山祖师“善无畏大师”
善无畏祖师厌恶了争权夺利的王室，决意让出王位，向佛出家。他向母后表明心迹，又向群臣宣明决意，愿让王位给兄长。母后哀而许之，秘密赐给他传国宝珠，然后他便出宫而去。出宫后，善无畏向南天竺而行，来到海滨，进入殊胜招提寺修习佛法，得入法华三昧。继后，他发愿聚沙建塔一万座供佛，建塔期间，他被黑蛇咬伤了手指，但不退其愿，终于建成了一万座沙塔（吉祥注：今人修造三宝功德，少遇厄运，即为退转，殊不知祖师也有重报轻受，故知不退者成佛做祖，退者为凡）。其后，善无畏大师，又礼敬达磨鞠多，深入学习瑜伽密教，期间，又锻金为贝叶，写《大般若经》，并镕银起塔，等佛身量。在积功累德的道路上，他勇往直前。再后来，八十高龄的善无畏大师，被其阿阇梨达磨鞠多指示，令其东向大唐传教密法，于是又不辞年高途累，转来中土，得唐玄宗李隆基礼遇，拜为国师。到大唐后，善无畏祖师，又铸铜造塔，手成模范，妙出人天。一次，他在寺院里开炉准备铸塔，僧人们觉得庭院狭隘，担心扇起风来，酿成火灾，善无畏笑着说：“大家不必惊怕，我知道不要紧呵！”铸炼那一天，果然大雪纷飞，灵塔铸好出炉时，雪花满地，美景如画，众僧皆称叹不已。那么，这位爱造塔的祖师，最终寿命活到多少岁呢？开元二十三年十一月七日，善无畏大师示寂于洛阳大圣善寺禅室，时龄99岁，僧腊80。似乎善无畏祖师，从天竺到中土，一直都在造塔。思考：阿育王广造塔像，延寿二十五年。那么，如果善无畏大师没有造那么多佛塔，其到底是不是能够八十岁高龄还有信心来华传法，乃至最后能否活到九十九岁，也许并不一定。下面这段佛经，也向我们证明造塔对延寿的殊胜作用，如《佛说造塔延命功德经》云：乃往古昔，有一小儿，此地牧牛。有诸相师来共占相，谓言：此牧牛儿，却后七日，必当寿尽。是牧牛儿又于异时，与诸小儿聚沙为戏，中有小儿，摧沙为堆，言作佛塔，高一磔手，或二或三，至四磔手。时此小儿，戏聚沙塔，高一磔手，却后更延七年寿命。所以，造塔对延寿的功力，非常宏大。下文再简要说明一下，造塔对护国的作用。
近日，每读唐时佛史，见印度高僧蜂拥来华传法，中土皇室及百姓，亦礼遇有加，尊崇恭敬，多有奉行，而唐之声威文明，也绍隆宇外，至今不昧。今时值中华民族伟大复兴，而群寇虎视，威逼相胁，我等佛子，受国恩惠，岂能坐视不理？而佛子护国，有稳定显效者，不外增益国民之福一法尔！《造塔延命经》又云：修上福者，不外造塔。是故，欲图报国土恩者，请广集中国之土，广造中国之塔，广隆华人之福，则国必强而民必富，寇仇自退也！所谓以塔兴福，以福护国延祚，以福富民强兵，以福祛病延寿，以福战胜寇仇者，即今日科学所谓：以造塔法，转移聚集足够能量，以所聚能量做功推动，才能实现上述目标！若无福德能量做功推动，物理不能做功生效，佛理不能增福满愿，二理实为一也！可叹今人迷信，不见正真之道，不明真正科学，不知二理兼通。
今劝国民随其所宜，广造塔者，以先弥补昔年所毁之损，后增昔年未有之福，如此于国于己，于公与私，皆大利也。若如此，我昔激愤之罪，甚可慰也。
