absence could crush our economy. she was applauded for nearly four minutes. we have had the most grizzled hardin hearts hardin even further. they all melted when she walked in the chamber. while her yes vote was not the decisive one her colleagues on both sides of the aisle recognized it was the most inspiring. to witness the return of our colleague, the personification of courage, of sincerity of admiration throughout the country the vice-president even made his way to the house floor for his chance to see her. while her colleagues were touched that she was back, perhaps no one was more pleased than gabrielle giffords herself. her trip to washington is just a second public appearance since the deadly shooting rampage in january. aides said it that she will return to continue her point. that is a direct measure of how much water is in the air around us and it tells us how comfortable or uncomfortable it is. it gives you the relative humidity readings, which is very low right way and it will mix things up a bit and stir our atmosphere tomorrow giving us a few chances of rain. what i mean by that is in the morning, afternoon and evening. first of all, a tropical storm family is still near porter rico. this is expected to remain a tropical storm throughout its lifetime. it will possibly clip the florida peninsula and maybe even bring in some very beneficial and much-needed rainfall to parts of the southeastern united states. 95 this afternoon hot the not too humid. humidity will increase in the nighttime hours and we cannot rule out showers for the morning commute tomorrow. the best chance will be north of the metro area, close to the mason-dixon line. in maryland that energy should be more concentrated in between morning showers tomorrow, and afternoon showers and storms, we could squeeze in a little bit of sun. our afternoon sun potential is directly dependent on how much sunshine we will get. we re not expecting much, but the more we get the stronger the afternoon storms will be. it will be near 90 degrees or the upper-80 s over the next few days. octomom is taking more punches, this time in the celebrity boxing ring. she will be the captions paid for by nbc-universal television from nbc news, this is today, with lester holt and amy robach, live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. good morning, everyone, welcome to today on a saturday, i m lester holt. and i m amy robach. we have heard of jumping the shark and riding a dolphin, but how about riding a shark? it probably seemed like a good idea at the time. really? i guess this giant shark, second largest fish, this particular species, second largest fish out there was swimming around his boat and he thought what would it be like? but notice how quickly he turns back and starts swimming become. realized it was a bad idea. a lot of great whites in the area. we ll find out more about what he was thinking later on. the story we re all talking about, the debt ceiling, the president said in his weekly address we re almost out of time, the deadline three days away and it comes with both sides still unwilling to compromise. right. lawmakers in both parties said they were determined to avoid a default, yet there was very little evidence of progress or even significant negotiations. republicans and democrats will be working down to the wire this weekend with a vote expected at 1:00 a.m. sunday morning. can a deal be reached? we ll find out. then we look a crime spree. this week marks the 30th anniversary of the terror that gripped new york city with a serial killer that gunned down his victims. this morning, we ll look back on the murder spree and also share with you a letter we received from the son of sam himself, david burke wits. many are fans of the show antiqu antiques road show. one man hit the jackpot with a rare collection of chinese bowls. they were valued at $1.5 million. how did he get them, and what should he do with them? we re going to talk to the owner, live, in just a few moments. i would have soled them right away, but that s me. we ll find out more coming up. let s begin in washington with a standoff over the debt ceiling, a partisan divide, neither side willing to compromise. they both seem to be at square one after the senate killed the house. what the house voted on friday. we want to begin with live at the white house. mike, good morning. reporter: good morning, lester. after another day of high drama over the debt, the public posturing continued into the night last night. but now as congress prepares to work through the weekend and those back-room negotiations continue at a furious pace, a resolution to this crisis could be in sight. it is a temporary triumph, but when it was finally at hand, a defiant speaker john boehner lashed out on the floor. i stuck my neck out a mile to try to get an agreement with the president of the united states. and i put revenues on the table. reporter: after weeks of fruitless talks with the white house, boehner attacked mr. obama and democrats, while demanding that they help find a way to avoid default. but it is time for our colleagues across the aisle to tell us what they re for. tell us how we can end this crisis. reporter: after hours of back-room fighting, boehner added to his spending cuts, more palatable for house conservatives, but a poison pill in the senate. with the boehner bill dead on arrival there, harry reid submitted his own plan. the plan is to work off our bill. it s time for us to be adults. that s what the american people want. it s time to come together and compromise. that s what the american people want, and that s what we need to do. reporter: as the drama played out, president obama pushed lawmakers to find a solution. so there are plenty of ways out of this mess. but we are almost out of time. reporter: and he urged voters to turn up the heat on republicans. make a phone call, send an e-mail, tweet. reporter: his 2012 campaign office gave out the twitter sites of top gop lawmakers nationwide. and for the second time in a week, capitol phone lines were jammed. people will call in and be waiting anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. as the clock ticks, the senate will work all weekend in search of a deal. compromise is not a bad word. so it s time for us to act together and we hold our arms out to my republican colleagues. reporter: and lester, the key to all of this is senate republicans. if harry reid can come to some sort of accommodation with even a handful of them, get to that magic number of 60 in the senate, that crucial vote scheduled for 1:00 sunday morning. lester? mike, thanks. his weekly address release this morning, the president said the country must be able to pay its bills and that any deal has to be bipartisan. the president added that a failure to reach an agreement would be inexcusable, and a self-inflicted wound by washington. chuck todd is nbc s chief white house correspondent. chuck, good morning. good morning, lester. for two days, the president has said the two sides really aren t that far apart. is he right? they aren t that far apart. the key sticking point is this issue of raising the debt limit, large enough, big enough, so that it gets us through 2012, gets us into the spring of 2013. right now, of course, the boehner bill and what republicans were supporting would have this debt limit come to another vote in the next at this point in time harry reid wants to do is simply figure out a way to satisfy the second round of deficit reduction, create a stronger trigger potentially, whatever he can come to, to get more republicans to support his way in order to get this debt limit passed 2012. i think he s going to come to an agreement. the question is, how big of an agreement is it? is it an agreement that barely gets the eight republicans he wants? or does it get 20 republicans and sends a strong, bipartisan message to make sure this thing doesn t get gummed up again in the house. does he have a dance partner in terms of a republican willing to negotiate? reporter: he s got a few dance partners potentially, but right now he s not working very well with mitch mcconnell. that s not clear. but don t be surprised. there are a couple ways this could play out today. harry reid and mitch mcconnell do come to an agreement on some form on what to do about this second debt limit vote and this trigger. they refile a bill, and maybe everything gets pushed back about 24 hours, so instead of 1:00 in the morning sunday, the reid bill this revamped bill would be 1:00 in the morning monday. and they would speed up the process a little bit so they could get it passed by monday still, and get it into the house and get it into their hands. because they probably need a full 24 hours. or reid does go it alone and has to pick off moderate republicans, other republicans like john soon of south dakota, bob corker of tennessee who have indicated they re tired of this, they ll cut a deal, gives them just enough. but it could just eke out of the senate and that would make things really precarious in the house, lester. anecdotally, i think people are uniformly upset and blame various parties here, but they re mad. and we see people making those phone calls. are there deaf ears right now? on capitol hill and in the white house to what the public is thinking and saying? reporter: it s not that they re deaf. i think this is one of those cases where, well, we know they re mad, this is the way it works here, it s ugly. it s always we know you would never want to go there, or you would never eat sausage again. that s their mind-set and they think they just have to get through this. but i do think you see advisers telling them you know what, this one is different. this one is bigger. be very careful here. i think both parties are losing a lot of luster. they re already unpopular. they re both taking on water. one could argue just one is taking on water faster right now than the other. and i think that that s the that s maybe the signal they re missing. certainly not pleasant to watch. chuck todd, thanks very much. now here s amy. lester, thank you. let s look at the big picture on how this possible default could impact you and your family. let s bring in a eamon javers. good morning. what can we expect with the market leading up to tuesday? as much as of a mess this looks like over the weekend, i think the market is looking for just about any exit it can get through this emergency, and they would like to see some kind of deal happen. so if we are voting over the weekend, if it does look like we re on a path to a solution here and they re going to raise the debt ceiling, i think you could see a positive reaction in the market, because we have had such a big selloff over the past several days as the market gets more and more nervous about what s going on here in washington. at this point, amy, they ll take any deal that s on the table. i m sure. let s play worst-case scenario here. if the deal isn t passed by tuesday, how quickly would we see a financial impact on the united states? i think if you see a deal where it has not come together, things are falling apart in washington, we will continue to see a selloff in the dow, and that could be a real problem. and then also you can see the credit rating agencies begin to step in and threaten to say we re going to downgrade u.s. debt and that s a problem for the entire financial system, because u.s. debt as it turns out is sort of the peg for interest rates and everything else in the financial system. u.s. debt is considered to be the least risky investment you could possibly make anywhere in the financial universe. if that turns out to be more risky than anyone thought, well then they ve got to reprice everything else throughout the system, and that s got ripplel effects throughout the whole market. right. so if we lost our aaa credit rating, the average american would be impacted by what, car rates, interest loans, everything you need to borrow money for? yes, as a result, go up throughout the economy. so if you re trying to buy a house right now, trying to buy a car, anything you want to finance, you re going to have some trouble. and because people will have trouble borrowing, then you ll see less economic activity. companies will be able to sell less, and then, of course, you ll see less hiring. and that s what it s all about in this economy right now, is getting the jobs picture fixed. right. and so people with investments, especially retirement funds, is this something where you want to ride it out or i m sure a lot of people are thinking maybe i should just run and get my cash and put it in my mattress at this point. yeah, look. i m an eternal optimist. i feel like there s a path here now to a deal on monday or tuesday, and they ll get this thing done. but look, amy, i ve been wrong before. i wouldn t offer financial advice at this point. i mean, this is a little bit scary. and that s why you ve seen that selloff in the market over the last couple days as people look at this and go, whoa, i m going to back off and see what happens here. all right. eamon javers, thank you so much. the warnings were out, but in the end, tropical storm don spared texas a direct hit. that s good news along the coast. it may not help the state s prolonged drought, and one being felt in many parts of the country. nbc s janet shamlian is in a rainy houston. sounds good, janet. reporter: good morning, lester. yeah, you know it s bad when you re cheering for the tropical storm to actually come ashore in your state. but don did nothing to alleviate the drought in texas. and you mentioned the showers we re having right now. these are very brief, and they re not making a dent in the drought, either. this is an epic drought. the last nine months have been the driest in the state s history. and right now, it would take something like 17 inches of rain just to get us back to normal. weeks on end of triple-digit temperatures. and in most areas, months without measurable rain has turned texas into a dust bowl. and it s spawning these tornado-like dust devils, amid the worst dry spell in decades. from space, nasa photos show a parched landscape. i have never in my 30 years in weather seen a drought like this one. reporter: this map shows the spread from texas, oklahoma and new mexico, now into southern colorado and kansas. dry, no rain. just no grass. need the rain bad. reporter: as crops burn and lakes dry up, economists say agriculture losses just in texas could top $8 billion. double last month s prediction. when drought effects here, we see it in everything from the prices in the clothes we wear to the clothes we eat. reporter: ranchers are going to auction early because there is no food. and from already suffering wildlife, a new problem. rabies. the number of rabies cases in central texas has more than doubled since last year. as food and water sources dry up, and animals are more likely to interact and infect each other. we need to remember they carry diseases for both people and animals. reporter: suffering in the heat that has already done much damage this summer season. it doesn t help when the heat is on, it s going to be 99 degrees here in houston today, a heat index of 104, and the forecast is essentially the same day after day. this region could use a good drenching. don did not provide it. but lester, the hurricane season is young. yes, janet shamlian, thanks very much. amy? let s get a closer look at the drought. bill karins joins us with an update. good morning. good morning, everyone. some people are calling it don the did you do, dud, i m calling it don the disappointment. it didn t materialize. we have been showing this drought map for weeks if not a beautiful saturday morning here in the nation s capital. i m news 4 meteorologist chuck bell. welcome to your weekend. a partly cloudy sky out there first thing this morning. temperatures in the mostly upper 60s to near 70 degrees. and temperatures are going to keep it climbing today up in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. today s high in washington right around 96. only the slightest little chance of a shower. no rain out there just yet. that s a look at your weekend forecast. lester? all right, bill, thanks. it was in july 2009 that iran seized three young american hikers. one of them, sarah shourd, was freed last september, but shane bauer and josh fattal still remain in custody. it could be a major turning point in their ordeal as they go to court to face charges on espionage and illegal entry into the country. joining us now are sarah shourd along with josh fattal s mother and brother alex. thank you so much for being on. sara, when you were released 11 months ago now, did you assume that the other two would follow very quickly? of course i did. i never imagined in my worst nightmare that they would be there a month or two longer than i was. and was that because of things that were said at the time, or was it just a basic assumption? immediately after he was released, the chief made a statement saying i was released because they convinced the judiciary i was incapable of espionage, which is of course true. and shane and josh are equally incapable. none of us speaks a word of the language, we had no equipment, it was clear we were just tourists and just hiking and meant no harm. tell me about the communications. what do you hear from tehran? how much contact do you have with them? we don t have any direct contact with tehran at all. i write letters to josh every single day, and i know sarah and alex write letters to josh and shane every single day. i m up to my 729th letter. tomorrow is the two-year mark, the mark of the day of their detention, and the day of their trial. so i have been writing, because i know that s very, very important for josh and for shane, because that s their only communication with the outside world. let s talk about tomorrow. it s a big day as we noted, because there have been statements made by judiciary officials in iran, suggesting that this could be decided. what are you hearing and what are your expectations? well, we the public prosecutor has made a statement saying a final decision would be made. and that they re very hopeful that will happen. so, of course, shane and josh have been waiting for a trial for 22 months was the first time that we were told by our investigators that we were going to trial. we have been waiting a long time for this. and we hope that it s the end. laura and alex, do you walk a little bit of a tight rope here in that, you know, for better or worse, that s their system of justice? and is there any fear of inflaming iranian authorities? well, at this point, we have initiated an intensive period of prayer. we held a very moving rally yesterday outside of the iranian mission to the united nations. it was a rally of peace in the spirit of compassion and humanitarianism, and our call has always been to the iranian people who are brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters and to say, look at shane and josh for who they are, the good deeds they have done across the world and as human beings. but is this about shane and josh, or is it really about iranian-american relations? all we can do is repeat our appeals and calls and we know it is a final hearing and we re confident the iranian judiciary will finally do the right thing. and sara, the statements you noted there have been statements suggesting obviously this could be the final decision but also suggesting innocence. do you think the iranians are just looking for a face-saving way out of this? well, that s what we re praying for. we re praying that the time for compassion has finally come. and you hold no bitterness against the iranian authorities. oh, i really don t. i spent the best year of my life in the middle east. and i hold absolutely nothing no bitterness against the people in the middle east. and i know that shane and josh will feel the same way. and i know you ll be expecting a big call important call tomorrow from the lawyer in tehran. yeah, and the trial is at 10:00 in tehran on sunday morning. so for us in the east coast of the united states, it will be started about 1:30 in the morning for us. well, we will obviously be paying close attention for that. thank you all so much for coming on and talking with us this morning. thank you. we re back in a moment. but first, this is today on nbc. still to come on today, touch of evil. we ll go back in time 35 years and look back on the son of sam and his killing spree. plus, a today exclusive. the man who left his boat to go riding on a shark. but first, these messages. good morning. it is 7:26 on this saturday, july 30th. topping your news today, drivers in alexandria have only a couple more days before three read lig red light cameras go live. at south patrick street in franklin, gibbon and duke street. drivers face a $50 fine. and today you can get your first look at the revamped washington redskins. out are donovan mcnabb and albert haines sort. in are a slew of free agents. the team will hold its first public practice today at the practice facility starts at 8:30 this morning. admission and parking are free. and fans might get a chance to get autographs from some of the newest favorite players. chuck bell has a look at your forecast right after the break. another good thing about geico is, they ve got, like, real live people working there 24/7. so like say you need to report a claim, alright. a real person will be there to help you. then you can use geico.com to view photos of the damage, track your claim, print an estimate. you want an english muffin? well, this morning, we ll find out when we talk exclusively to the man who literally jumped the shark coming up. jumped on the shark, right? it apparently came under his boat, you saw it, and he got on its back. and this wasn t a little shark. this was a huge specimen. yeah, it s i heard 30 feet. i m not sure if that s official, but it s a big fish. okay. looking forward to that answer. but first, want to begin the half hour with one of the most infamous serial killers in modern history. the son of sam. yesterday was the 35th anniversary of the start of his reign of terror, and one that continues to haunt new york. it was a mad man with a .44. a psychopath whose cryptic letters gave him a thrill and a name. the son of sam. between 1976 and 1977, he turned the streets of new york into his hunting ground. this week marks the 35th anniversary of his murder spree. the terror began in the early morning hours of july 29th, 1976, 18-year-old donna loria, who lived in this bronx apartment building with her family, was sitting outside in a parked car right about here, talking with a friend. she noticed a man standing nearby. without a word, that man pulled out a .44 caliber handgun from a brown paper bag and opened fire. donna was killed instantly. her friends survived. over the next 13 months, 5 more lives would be cut down, six others injured. the city was on edge, and the headline had stories of the unknowned gunman. the son of sam case. he never robbed or raped. he simply killed. at random, in cold blood. the manhunt eventually led to a 24-year-old postal worker named david berkowitz. with the help of a palm print, a parking ticket and a ballistics match, berke wits was arrested outside his home and the nightmare was over. i walked into that room with full intentions of whacking this guy, at least punching him out. retired homicide detective joe coffee led the search for the son of sam, and it was coffee who was one of the first to interrogate him. he didn t blink for three hours, and he had a constant smile on his face. coffee says the motive was borne out of the death of berkowitz s adoptive mother and his hatred of women. the night we caught him on the in his back seat was a fully loaded machine gun. he was going to mow down as many people he could kill. berkowitz says he has undergone a religious transformation, becoming born again, and in a recent interview, he expressed remorse for the murders. but i would like to be remembered as a person, you know, again, who is sorry for what happened and is doing everything in his power to try to make amends to society in any way possible. 35 years later, a serial killer asking for forgiveness for an act of evil that many will never forget. we reached out to berkowitz to, you know, for the preparation of the story. he actually replied, sent us a letter, expressing remorse. he says, quote, only god knows how much i regret what happened in 1976, 1977. i too am in anguish over it and wish i could go back in time to have prevented it. surprised to hear from him. it s still probably little solace. i wasn t living here at the time, but you talk to folks who were and people weren t going out. well, it was random and you don t know when and where. it s scary to go to the grocery store. police couldn t develop a pattern of where he was hitting. the city was in fear. time for a check of the weather now. let s go outside to a good saturday morning to you. i m chuck bell. we re off to a dry start here in washington. it will be a toasty warm weekend, as well. not quite as hos as it was yesterday. yesterday we topped out at 104 degrees in washington. we ll make out into the mid-90s this afternoon. hard to believe that s considered a cooldown. start off temperatures mid to upper 70s, even a few low 80s. highs today 92 to 97. nextof course, i ve got to wish you a happy 6th birthday. congratulations. back to you, amy and lester. bill, thanks. up next, swimming with the sharks. a today show exclusive with a man who took a ride on a real ocean monster. plus, smooth criminal. it s one of the hottest shows on cable, it s called white collar, and we are on the set with the show s stars. but first, these messages. l mic. if you have painful, swollen joints, i ve been in your shoes. one day i m on p of the world. the next i m saying. i have this thing called psoriatic arthritis. i had some intense pain. it progressively got worse. my rheumatologist told me about enbrel. i m surprised how quickly my symptoms have been managed. we ll have new details on this disturbing case in just a few moments. we ve also been following the case of amanda knox, her appeals case, startling testimony about dna. the appeal comes after the dna experts attacked the way the police handled forensic evidence that helped convict her. today those experts will be cross-examined by both sides. what does it mean for her case? we ll get a live report from outside the courthouse in a few minutes. plus, take a look at this. an oklahoma man brought some bowls to the antiques road show. he wanted an assistant on their value, and boy, did he get one. they are worth $1.5 million. that is an all-time record for the show. and look at that. we have the high-priced bowls right here in the studio, along with their owner. plus, we re going to ask a financial expert on what he should do with them. lester says, sell! take the money. exactly. i love stories like that. something lying around the house. who knows? i m just too lazy to do thinking about it, you know? mine are probably worth nothing anyway, so what does it matter? richard lui is standing by at the news desk with another check of the morning headlines. hey, richard. good morning, everyone. it s three more days before reaching the deadline to raise the nation s debt. nbc s at the white house. reporter: yesterday another day of high drama capped a week and political posturing into the night last night. yesterday, the house passed that boehner bill. that would allow the debt ceiling to rise. however, it came with a price in order to get tea party conservatives on board. john boehner, the speaker of the house, had to add what senate republicans and democrats or what democrats in the senate regard as a poison pill, a balanced budget amendment to the constitution. it put it over in the house. it had enough votes, passed late yesterday, but dead on arrival in the senate. and richard, it may sound ridiculous to say with all of this bewhich woulding procedure and the political back and forth, the path now seems actually a little bit clearer. harry reid, the democratic leader in the senate, has submitted his own plan. he did so late last night. now the trick is, can he get enough senate republicans to get on board? he needs at least seven, possibly more. there are furious negotiations going on behind the scenes right now into the weekend. both the house and the senate are going to be in session. the first vote the first critical test of the senate plan comes in the wee hours tonight, 1:00 a.m. on sunday morning. then we ll have a clearer idea of where this thing is but whatever the case, richard, even in a best-case scenario, this is going to go right down to the wire on tuesday. very little question about it. very late night. break out the pizzas. the fbi has joined the investigation into a series of sexual assaults near the university of michigan in ann arbor. authorities released a sketch of a suspected serial rapist they believe might be on the loose near the campus. six women have been attacked while walking alone late at night. this while the school is welcoming thousands of freshman for orientation. in chicago, officials are trying to figure out how two delta planes collided. they clipped wings as they were backing away from the gates. no one was injured. the planes were grounded for inspection. this is at least the third time in as many months that two passenger planes have collided while on the ground. and now to the u.k. where royal wedding preparations are under way. and no, this is not an old script. there is another set of nuptials set to take place. for more on that, we turn to nbc s stephanie gosk following it all for us. good morning, stephanie. reporter: good morning, richard. it won t be as big, but still going to be big. the wedding is scheduled to take place in a couple hours at this church right behind me. it is the queen s oldest granddaughter marrying the captain of the england rugby team. there is a guest list of 400. contrast that to the nearly 2,000 people that attended william and catherine s wedding three months ago. the entire royal entourage is in attendance, including the newlyweds themselves, the duke and touchess of cambridge, as well as prince harry. after the ceremony, they re going to the queen s residence in edinboro, the party expected to last until about 2:00 a.m. the entire wedding party was on the decks of the royal yacht brit annia last night, taking advantage of the rare scottish sunshine, on deck sipping champagne. she is 13th in line to the throne, but one of the queen s favorites. she and her husband aren t going on honeymoon, because they need to train for their mutual events. richard? stephanie, thank you so much on a beautiful day there in scotland. and finally, we love our animals on this show, so take a look at a puppy with acting skills. rosy with her pal, running around like a loose wheel after two catch-me-if-you-can fly-byes. rosy gets a friendly peck on the neck and falls like a rock. is she dead? nope. s she peaks to see what her pal is doing. rosy is known for her attention-seeking antics. let s send it out to amy. a lot of fun there. maybe the dog had bad breath and knocked her over. that s a possibility. richard, thank you very much. bill karins is here on the plaza and i ve got to say, what a beautiful morning. gorgeous here. not ever good saturday morning. i m chuck bell. our intense heat is not really going anywhere either. now, there will be some improvement today, we actually had a very weak cool front go through late yesterday night and as a result it will be a touch cooler today, but it will still be awfully warm. 84 already here in washington. 82 in annapolis, 81 in frederick, maryland. sunny and hot, no more than an isolated little chance if if a lester s fan club all over the place here. i don t know why he eats snake. long story. last month, 11-year-old celina cass was in her new hampshire home. her family says on her computer. but in the morning, she was gone and a massive search is on to find her. nbc s michelle franzen is live in stewart stown, new hampshire with more on the story. michelle, good morning. reporter: good morning, lester. investigators are expected to be back here at the command center this morning for a briefing. and then possibly out searching again. but rain is moving in. it adds to the challenges here of challenging terrain, as well as few tips to go on. so far investigators have not been able to rule out any thing or anyone. standing out. hundreds of volunteers walk through miles of tall brush, and wooded terrain near west stuartstown, new hampshire, searching for 11-year-old celina cass. up above, investigators used a helicopter equipped with a high-tech camera to scan the area. nearby, the community school serves as a command center, where more than 100 investigators map out their day, follow up on tips and chase new leads. but after nearly a week, still no breaks in the case. simply do not know where she is located at this time, or how she got to wherever she is. reporter: new hampshire attorney general jane young says cass was last seen monday night, on the computer, at her family s home. the girl s mom and stepfather have not spoken publicly, but young says they, along with hundreds of others, have been interviewed. they have been cooperative with us. we have met with them multiple times a day, trying desperately to bring back their child. reporter: there is little to go on, even at the house, where the fbi looked for clues and collected items. investigators are also researching the family s computer and phone records. experts say likely their best lead. i think one of the keys to cracking this case is to figure out exactly how she got off the computer. reporter: the investigation now stretches beyond the home and this town of 800 to nearby vermont and across the border to canada, just a mile away. meanwhile, neighbors are helping any way they can, searching, posting flyers, even bringing food to the command center. but residents who once felt safe it s rough for the community. reporter: now have a new worry. while they wait and pray that cass will be found. we will not stop searching for you until you are back in our arms. reporter: investigators have also told us that spotty cell phone services in this area have also hampered their investigation, just a bit, slowing them down. and that s because cell service is spotty. we ve had a problem here. they ve had to return to passing notes in the field, and that s taking up a lot of time in their investigation, as well. lester. nbc s michelle franzen, thanks. so what could have happened to selena? with us is criminologist casey jordan. you have used the term nothingness in this case. quite disturbing. explain what you mean by that. remember, she disappeared monday night. there is no sign of a struggle. it s what we call a mysterious disappearance, no clues released by the police. and here we are on saturday morning, knowing almost nothing more than we knew on monday night. in other words, there are no clues. it s just the biggest clue is that so far the police are not telling us anything. no evidence that she ran away, no evidence of an abduction. there have been reports that celina s stepfather had a history of mental issues and domestic violence. but no one has been called a suspect, no one has been called a person of interest. but typically, do families become the immediate focus in these sorts of things? that s correct. and we saw a family spokesperson there is nothing wrong with that, some people are camera-shy. but in most cases you see the family coming out and begging the media for attention. weeping mothers, people with their arms around each other, imploring the public for help. and we re not seeing that in this particular case. in fact, we re hearing a lot about the stepfather, but we hear virtually nothing about the mother. so, again, you have to wonder if there is some sort of family dynamic that the police are looking carefully at, you know, there was yellow police tape around the house. and that s rather atypical in these sorts of cases. and she was on the computer, which may or may not be a huge clue. by now would you think they would have figured out what site she was on and whether that s a potential link to her disappearance? absolutely. the computer was critical, because monday night, that s where her family says they last saw her. tuesday morning, they go to wake her up, she s not there. so the computer would have been the first order of business for police to have forensically analyzed. and with computer software, that can be done within a few hours. so again here we are five days later with the police saying nothing. if there was predators, if there was any kind of e-mail exchange that was suspicious to them, i think we would have heard about it, and we would know what direction they were going. but apparently it hasn t revealed anything worth mentioning to the public. so could have been a nonstarter. she lived within walking distance of the canadian border. clearly they re searching on the other side of the border, as well. but does that complicate things and raise new possibilities? it does raise possibilities. and certainly the canadian officials are cooperating and working in tandem. but if this were indeed an abduction case if she did perhaps meet somebody on the internet who came from canada and did take her back, that is going to complicate this search tremendously. especially not just from a logistical standpoint, but also from, again, two different nations cooperating, trying to get the canadians to take this as seriously as we re trying to take it. that could really be difficult if they think that s where she has gone. very troubling mystery. casey jordan, thanks for coming on. good to be here. we re back in a moment, but first these messages. i m good about washing my face. but sometimes i wonder. what s left behind? it s so wrong, because it was kind of made up. it just wasn t there from the beginning. i don t know how you make a mistake that big. it kind of boggles my mind. they said the victim s blood was on it. these experts from the university that teach forensics says there was starch from rye bread on it. that s a big difference if your forensic people can t tell the difference. i know you have been investigating for some time, and of the mind that two people have been wrongfully convicted here. but as part of the investigation, you reviewed some of the crime scene tapes. i reviewed all of the crime scene tapes. based on what you saw as a trained investigator, were you surprised the d.a. was ultimately discredited? no, i was surprised that anything was accepted in that court. that was some of the most ridiculous, horrific forensic work i ever saw. i mean, they seemed to think that gloves are magic. that if you put them on, you can touch anything and nothing is transferred back and forth. gloves are fine, but you have to change them. if you are in a doctor s office and the doctor came in with dirty gloves and said let s start, you would say change those things and he would say no, i ve got gloves on, i m fine. it doesn t work unless you change them. let s talk about the knife. the knife allegedly had dna. now they can t find it. does it surprise you no matter who did this scene, does it surprise you at a scene as bloody as this was there wouldn t be more found on the knife if, in fact, it was the murder weapon? if it was the murder weapon, there would have been dna all over it. we already know that it wasn t bleach-cleaned or there wouldn t be starch from rye bread in it. the prosecution i knew from my investigations that blood would slide between the tang and the handle of a knife. that s where you re going to find the latent stuff. the prosecution fought against having the handles removed. i would have gfought of the handles removed if i was the proce prosecut prosecutor. there is something seriously wrong with this. when you say something seriously wrong, they use international norms as a standard here. and i know a lot of people have questioned the italian system of justice. the fact is, when you get to investigating a crime scene and dna, are those pretty universal across the field? they re as universal as surgery. i mean, you don t have an italian lung surgery and an american lung surgery. you have internationally accepted standards. forensics isn t an art. forensics isn t i think i ll do it this way. forensics is a science. and you have to do it the same way everywhere. and so what s left? if you take out the dna evidence, is there any other evidence that s still potentially presents a problem to amanda knox? what this case is based on is a bunch of lies and innuendo and two pieces of dna. the dna is gone. so what you have are lies and innuendo. they are going to throw things out like, blood spatters here that can t be explained. so if they can t be explained, they must be amanda s. if they can t explain anything, they just assume it s a amanda s. when there is no reason to assume that, there is no evidence to support it. what they are doing is saying, if we don t know what something is, we can assume anything, and we choose to assume it s a amanda. not the man whose dna was found in the victim. all right. steve moore, good to have you on. thank you very much. thanks, lester. up next, keep on moving, we ll meet the 23-pound tortoise with a new lease on life. first, these messages. is dr. watkins, i want to begin with you. the surgery took place a few months ago. we can see gamara is a healthy eater. but other than that, how is he doing? he s otherwise very healthy. he he recovered quite well from the surgery. he did have an initial injury to that limb that necessitated us removing it. but he is, as you can see, doing quite well at this point. yeah, and dr. watkins, take me back to april 22nd. it s unclear exactly how gamara was injured, but we know that his limb was badly burned. can you walk me through the procedure of removing his limb and then attaching that wheel? how did you come up with the idea? well, it s not a completely novel idea. it s been done before, where wheels have been put on tortoises that have limited mobility. and so with his injury, it was very clear that we needed to remove that limb. and so the limb was just too badly damaged and couldn t be saved. and so with him being such a large tore as it, we figured this would be a good way to keep him mobile. and dr. watkins, it looks like it worked. how did he wake up feeling about this new appendage? he didn t seem to mind it at all. he actually started cruising around pretty eagerly. he has a bit of an awkward gait, but we figured that this would be a good compromise between keeping him mobile and also keeping him comfortable while he s resting. he s figuring it out. dr. finch, gamara is only 12 years old, so he will continue to grow, actually, quite large. how often then will you have to put on a new set of wheels? well, the rate at which reptiles grow kind of depends on their husbandry and how well they re kept. and obviously with the way he s eating now, he could grow pretty quickly. so we re just going kind of have to wait and see. but i would suspect that he ll probably be good for about a year. and by then we ll know kind of how fast he s going to grow and how often we re going to have to change this. and dr. finch, i understand he might outlive us all. he s got quite a large life span, as well. how do all of the other animals react to his wheel? is there any reaction? not really. we have another a different type of tortoise in the ward that doesn t like him just because he s another tortoise. but he doesn t seem to notice the wheel. the gerbil rams him like he rams everybody else. nobody seems to notice that he s an amputee. we re so glad that gamara is doing so well. dr. nicole finch and dr. courtney watkins and gamara, as well, thank you all for joining us today. thank you. coming up next, crazy-smart. we talk to the stars of the hot new romantic comedy. but first, this is today on nbc. during a summer blockbuster season filled with everything from big action to wizards, one film is standing out for its heart. take a look. i m so mad at you. i m really mad at you for what you did. but i m mad at myself too. i should not have jumped out of that car. i should have fought for you. because you fight for your soul mates. i miss you too. the movie is crazy, stupid love and it stars steve carell and julianne moore and they re here. good morning. good morning. this isn t your typical romantic comedy, it has some very serious moments. in fact, it opens up with julianne, your character, blind-siding steve s character, telling him you want a divorce. and yet there are some laugh-out-loud, historical, funny moments. how did you guys balance that? there s a fine line, i think, and we all agreed between the comedy and the drama. and i think the movie strikes that balance. you know what? let s recreate some of these scenes for you. right now. shall we? right here? this is a dramatic scene between us. ready? okay, now, try to cry. it s happening. it s happening. look at her eyes. i miss you too. i miss us. wow! look at her. it s amazing. unbelievable. he knows that about me. we are magic. you are magic on the screen. i will be completely unobjective here. it was phenomenal. i loved the movie, it was great, i laughed, i cried, better than cats. in terms of the script it really showed that sometimes adults don t know best. that was a nice, interesting twist. you have your your children are having issues with love as well at the same time. what was that like for you all to play all these different dimensions? i liked the fact that we made adults not always knowing best. but this couple does seem to give up very quickly. they re like they have hit the wall and don t know what to do so they just sort of abandon it all. and it is ultimately our son who says, hey, you know, maybe try a little harder. he kind of says man up, dad. he sort of does. and he s right. and i think you can learn a lot from kids. because theirs is a very unfiltered sort of, uncynical view of the world. and julianne, your character goes through a mid life crisis. and untypical, i think from a lot of scripts and a lot of movies, you have her having the affair, her asking for the divorce. and yet i thought you remained very likeable throughout the entire movie. she is likeable. people felt sorry for you. you were struggling. thank you. was it interesting to play that type of a role for a woman, which is atypical i a lot of movies? i like that, it was something of a romantic comedy that someone was not being wasn t completely virtuous. was sort of was flawed, and was going down the wrong road. i mean, i thought it was interesting and more humane and more realistic, frankly. . right. the mothers in the movie, ryan gosling s character, who is so great, trying to teach you how to be sexy again, young again, be a ladies man again. was a lot of that new to you, as well? were you getting tips along the way? no, i was giving ryan a lot of tips, actually. because he needs some help. yeah. the roles were very much reversed. i would see him stumble all of the time. and women hate him, in real life. there s no there s noin twinsic appeal to him. so i schooled him off camera. i think he s doing fine. he may i heard a rumor that he went out on a date with a girl once about a year ago. and and i m happy for him. steve carell, julianne moore. the movie is crazy stupid love now in theatres. thanks so much. we appreciate it. thank you. and we re back right after this. i ve found a new love a zero-calorie true love that comes from a leaf sweet surprise it s natural, guilt-free no artificiality it won t land on my hips or my thighs [ announcer ] truvia. honestly sweet. you know that comes with a private island. really? flattened. we have complete coverage of one of the deadliest outbreaks of tornadoes ever. and we re live in london. this morning, the soon-to-be princess arrived at westminster abbey, for a final look. as will and kate release a touching statement and a new photo to the world. prince william calms any wedding jitters with a wild ride and playing soccer. we re live for the final wedding countdown. these pictures you re looking at right now, only begin to capture the terror that so many americans endured overnight. dozens of gigantic tornadoes ripped right through the heartland. and this morning, we re just beginning to get a sense of the scale of the destruction. this is a picture of tuscaloosa. you see it s flattened. the tuscaloosa mayor, walter maddox said, there are parts of the city that have been completely obliterated.parts of the death toll, 100 and it continues to climb. 154 tornados in the last 24 hours. that brings the total over 600 for the month of april, a new record. and it s not over yet. atlanta and washington are in a tornado watch right now. and there s also warnings here in new york state. robin, i know you re over in london. but you re thinking hard about everything going on back here, including your home state of mississippi. george, you took the words right out of my mouth. we know there s a far more important story than what s happening here this morning. diane sawyer and barbara walt eve ers will join me a little later. we re thinking about all of those affected by the weather. sam is tracking it across the country. and reporters in the hardest-hit areas. steve osunsami is in tuscaloosa, alabama. and they re saying this is the most terrible thing to ever happen to that town. reporter: good morning, george. first responders here were so busy pulling the living from all of this debris, they were forced to ignore the dead. that s how bad this is. you can hear the sound of smoke detectors in the distance. but no one s here. there s the smell of death. across down, 16 people were killed. and most of them were killed in this neighborhood. so many families, so many people, whose lives were ruined. they were massive, truly massive tornadoes, nearly a mile wide, churning through homes. taking more than a dozen lives in tuscaloosa. another five dead here. six dead there. as the sirens sounded all across the state of alabama and parts of georgia. sounded like a bomb went off in the neighborhood. reporter: from the sky, it certainly looked like a bomb. it s devastating. just i m in shock. reporter: this was the view from surveillance video in covington, mississippi. this salvage yard didn t stand a chance. the storm forced workers in the service center leave their building. west of huntsville, the power plant lost power. late last night, the president and alabama s governor, quickly declared this a disaster zone. we re also going to send in national guard troops tonight and in the morning to many of the areas. at least 1,400 troops are going in. reporter: today, those troops will join firefighters and volunteers to search for survivors, like this young girl, who was pulled from underneath a large pile of pricks. survivors like patty perez. she was sandwiched in her flattened home. it took three men to pull her free. i couldn t get up. i was having them move stuff on top of me. and i got up. reporter: shameeka robinson ran inside this gas station for cover. it was destroyed. somehow, she made it out alive. the ceiling collapsed on me. the door slammed back on me. reporter: george, they re saying that the storm that hit here, the tornado, had wind speeds of up to 200 miles per hour. okay, steve. thanks very much. the devastation swept across georgia, as well. yunji de nies is there. she s in northwest georgia. yunji? reporter: good morning, george. those same storms started to hit here around 7:00. and they continued all through the night. this is what they left behind. you can see, this is what a gas station shop, the roof is completely ripped off. and all of the inside of the store, torn away. this is what s left of the gas station. hardly recognizable. just the awning left. everything else completely destroyed. when you go down that road, the devastation just continues for miles. it was just after dinner time when these deadly tornadoes moved from alabama to northwest georgia, plowing through everything in their path. i ve been here 51 years. and i ve never seen anything like this before in my life. reporter: as the fierce storm tore through businesses and homes, some residents were fortunate enough to receive warning. we were watching tv. it said seek shelter. so, we came up here and find the closest strong building. reporter: here, in ringold, georgia, dozens of businesses destroyed, including a block of stores where several structures collapsed. this super 8 motel, devastated. and this mcdonald s, shredded. all of the restaurants, the power lines. reporter: emergency crews scrambled overnight to rescue the injured and search for survivors still trapped inside. and right now, the death count here in georgia stands at 11. george, in that mcdonald s and that super 8, all in that area, search and rescue teams are still working. we were in that area earlier. but we were told to leave. they re worried they will find more bodies. yunji, thanks for that. sam has been tracking this all night. and it s hard to comprehend the record of the scale of the storms. we re updating the count as we speak. we re at 160 tornadoes out of this outbreak so far. let me show you some incredible pictures that have come from this. let s start with tuscaloosa area. and around exit 73. this is mcfarland kind of boulevard through that area. we re going to show you an incredible, up-close picture. as i play this, you ll see something amazing on the edge of the tornado. look at that right there. that is a large chunk of roof. it s a huge piece of debris that s rotating around the outside of this tornado. rarely do you ever see anything like that. and when you look at it, you re not seeing a lot of debris until you zoom in here. and the guy working the camera, shows the debris field dotted. these are not small pieces. they re giant pieces of debris, flying around the tornado that was described as a mile wide, at some point. when we put this in play, this is the radar from the past, overnight tonight. this travels from birmingham to georgia here. this is about 173 miles on travel on that. 218 miles on the ground, the longest-running tornado ever in history, in 1925. this storm had a hook echo all the way to north carolina. we may now have the longest running tornado on the ground in american history. george? sam, thanks very much. i m joined by sharyn alfonsi right now. we ve seen some of the pictures at the top of the program. but home video that really gives a feel for what was happening on the ground. we ve been covering all of that video. the sights and the sounds, not just from storm chases. but people on the roads and in their home, awe struck, the cameras rolling. we re going to stay with this we have rotation showing up and this particular cell and this look like it s on a bat better mannedel handle of what the town is doing. westminster just on the edge of that cone of possibility and that will put it over the next 10 to 15 minutes. once again we have got ourselvesextension if you have been with us i said it will happen and we have confirmation from the national weather service the tore nido warning is extended to 7:45. and as we are watching the storm and a few others continue to roll through the area now the area of the bot of the screen. let s skip back towards northeast and we have westminster on target and that puts us in the time frame for a tornado potentially westminster in the heart of the cone in the next 20 to 25 minutes if you within the sound my voice, take this seriously. manchester, you can be in on this and further the pipeline we could watch the thing in southern pennsylvania anywhere between the hereford zone and up towards shrewsbury and glen rock. tornadoes rotating to the north at 40 miles per hour. carroll and western howard county tornado warning sorry carroll and frederick 7:45. and please seek your safety shelter right now. and if you have to head out on the roads, or know someone out there let s see what that is doing to the traffic. and toss it over to kim brown for the late roast rs thanks for the latest. reporter: we have weather relateded closure in the area highlighted in carroll county newspaperriontown route 832 old tawnytown road closed in both directions at richardson road. it s reported as a weather related closure not sure if it s high water or debris. believe it or not, we don t have any accidents to report but traffic is moving at a stop and go pace on the beltway. this is outer loop on the left hand side of the screen and pretty much moving very, very slow heavy volume as you come down from old fort road 795 and pushing towards the i-70 interchange again no major incidents reported along the 95 corridored top side of the beltway bel air to york road and we have wind warnings in place at area bridges that could have also turned into restrictions at the bay and the tidings bridge. keep that in mind if you drive at 18-wheel vehicle or high cited vehicle. again, no major accidents or problems to report and traffic is moving very slow as the weather pushes into the metro area. now back over to justin for more of an update or megan and charley with an update. we will take it. thanks so much. 7:21. the big story all morning hascontinued nationally but hoe cally. one of the reasons we are covering this so heavily for you is because of the severity of the storm that hit across the southern u.s. alabama mississippi and arkansas and as many as 160 confirmed dead by the asovieted press. the storms are serious moving in a the love you talking to us this morning on facebook letting us know what it is you are seeing. jennifer says lots of thunder and lightning in westminster. also ann is saying she is rape drops wind pick up nothing severe yet. this is 20 minutes ago. and westminster and new windsor raining hard and very vivid light nipping and describes thesky as appearing green. the bottom line is we want you to be safe and if you are looking at the scene you are seeing a feature on website for tornado alley. look at the video but keep your television on because we will keep you up-to-date. your safety is our number one priority. so we will send it over to abc2 news linda so in the interactive news center right now with with a you need to know in case you are in the middle of a tornado. linda. reporter: yeah, we have a lot of tips on the website at abc2news.com. first tip is if you are at home watching right now, we have a lot of tips about what to do during the tornado warning. first thing first, head to your basement. the lowest part of your home. if you don t have a basement, try to find a room in the middle the general rule of thumb is put as many walls between you and the outside. that tends tonight safest place to be. it could be a closet or a bathroom. and also, you want to take gear safety stuff a blanket or a pillow to protect yourself from any of the debris flying around. also, we want to keep your windows closed. if you have a weather radio, keep that with you or keep it tuned on and we will tell you what s happening. also, if you know someone who is on the road here s tips as far as what to know. make sure if you see any sign of a tornado approaching, you want to pull over to a safe spot and fine shelter in a building. that s important. you might come upon heavy rain. we have tips on driving through heavy rain during storms like this. but again, abc to news.com abc2news.com. keep your phone handy. we have the link on the website. a phone app to get the information if you have an ipad keep that with you. you can read through the details as far as the tips. but if you are at home watching, head to your basement. the lowest level of your house. or the interior room perhaps the small closet or a bathroom. and take some blanks with you a pillow to protect yourself from debris. live in the interactive news center linda so. 7:24. right now what we are dealing with is a tornado warning in some areas watches in the others. frederick and carroll counties the warnings have been extended to 7:45. justin has been with you since 4:30 this morning as the warnings have rolled through. we are keeping you covered not only on the air but at abc2news.com. and updates up-to-the minute on facebook and let us know what you are seeing. through photographs do not put yourself in harm s way should a storm be severe. but if you have a chance to pop a few photographs, let us see those on facebook and pix pix at wmar.com. let us know you are our best eyes on the ground so we can let other people know what s happening in the areas. for more with what s developing let s say good morning to just in. thanks to you par participating. this is what s happening in your neighborhood i am hearing a lot of people carroll county at least for the last 10 or 15 minutes concerned about the storms and we have had warnings. we have had warnings in the area since about 4:15 or 4:30 and we are watching this one. we were talking about this storm during the 6:00 broadcast and i did expect this to get the extension of the warning up northeast. not only did that happen, but it expanded the time frame. carroll county tornado warning expires at 7:45. and we will be watching that also in frederick county. we had carroll we had howard county but the worst part right on top frederick. do you see the cone? let s get in closer. i want to show you from frederick one particular spin up. and within the cluster of storms, it s like looking at mountain range. we have a few peeks on the radar field and within those peeks they tap into the higher wind speeds and shifting wind direction with height that s what gets the storms to rotate and that s the concern right now. frederick through mount airy this passes looks like it s going to past westminster in the next 20 minutes. if you have something on top of you, i am telling you is there s going to be something else behind it. all right. i have to make that point clear it can be confusion westminster you have stuff on top of you right now. let s zoom in close with maryland most powerful doppler radar and within the exact vicinity of westminster, and the heaviest stuff pushing on 140 as we speak. back towards new windsor. southern carroll county and there s more heading in behind that with this second cell just to the north wet of mount airy passing between frederick to the north of new market and probably up towards union bridge. we can see here. let s pull this back a little wider. this is the cell that came out of virginia. by the way there s more back there into the mountains. but, anyone of these storms are getting active and just like throwing a top on the table and letting it spin. does it hold together or wobble. and throw itself down? that s pretty much what we watch here in the atmosphere. so you have heard about the precaution. we are going to have to watch the radar and let you know as we see it roll through. let s switch it back over and highlight some of the path we see and if anything shows up, messo circulation not from this particular vantage point. heats see if we have a funnel path. faux funnel clouds for maryland s most powerful radar but the cell path we are plotting north of damascus and let s pick this out. this is northwestern carroll county. this is another cluster that appears to have some energy with it heading towards hanover. we have got ourselves basically jefferson in the next 16 minutes and new salem and if you are watching north of glen rock, this could be towards looks like loganville maybe red lion over the next half-hour. these are fast moving storms averaging 40 to 50 miles per hour. and that is why we have the concern here because just as soon as we mention it and get it on the air, something else tries to pop up. and we have to follow that cell path as well. let s take this one cluster of storms. we are watching it out of frederick. you are getting heavy rain in west minimumser s and there s vivid lightningch we have to track this back to the west and this one looks like it might be heading in your direction over the next 20 minutes could make it towards manchester 29 minutes away and even parked in hereford zone. wide view gibbs a better indication of the lightning activity to the northwest. we have just got clipped here around the baltimore beltway. annapolis for the time being you are in the clear but slowly this complex will head in your direction and we have got to watch what s happening in frederick and little indication of a hook. i haven t seen much here on the velocity scan as we have been tracking this but once you see that bowing echo instead of a straight line it kinks in one dreck, that s the direction, that s the forward movement. and that s what s heading up towards westminster. i have i have friends in west minimumser s and you watch us upmanchester and hampstead. look out the storm is on top of you for at least the next 20 or 30 minutes. and the possibility of rotation of this super cell off dropping a tornado. the tornado warning drops in 15 minutes away now back to megan and charley with the latest. justin has been keeping us up-to-date. traffic is also going to be an issue with this this morning. so as this commute could be dicey, let s here what s going on with kim brown. reporter: thanks. we are dealing with delays. people are take it easy as rain and windy conditions move through our area. but we have been pretty light onaccidents. we have a couple not on the major roadways. traveling by air no significant delays with their departing flights. reagan national airport and dulles are reporting some significant delays especially out of the area at least 45 minutes to an hour. call the airline to make sure and see the status of what your flight is this morning. to look at our maps, we have an accident reported over in east baltimore at portal streets. the crash reported white marsh and pulaski highway. expect police on the scene. wind warnings in place at the bay and tidings bridges right now. but again, we are looking at heavy volume around the beltway. it s pretty much at a crawl coming from 795 towards i-70. outer loop top side slow from bel air to york. traveling the jfx it s a slow ride from the ruxton road overpass towards 95 southbound beginning to slow from white mash shall heading towards the marsh heading towards the beltway. no major incidents on the big interstates. but we have a lot of volume. drivers are taking it easy and as we toss it over to justin, it s looking ominous around the baltimore metro what s the latest. the camera point we looked at towards the west and in the direction of the storms northwest of baltimore, hold the shot for a moment. he want to do reference. highlight the two pink counties. this is carroll and over towards frederick and these are tore tornado warnings and what keeps us going to about 7:45. we will watch the storms as anyone of them have the potential of popping up tapping into the strong winds and shifting winds aloft. that can give it extra spin. once we see any sort of a comma shape s signature or bow echo on the radars that s a sign they are blowing themselves out. they are starting to give themselves the extra push from the winds working their way down from the higher structure of the storm to the surface. that s why we had the potential of 60 to 70-mile-per-hour winds in addition to the possibility of tornadoes and large hail. there s the statewide view. and there s the local view. maryland s most powerful doppler radar highlighting this. and there s a funky line there. that s not a straight line. and that s an indication of strong winds pushing their way through with this particular storm. carrying through westminster, over the course of the next 20 minutes. that s the one that is coming out of the mountairy frederick area. see what s happening here. mount airy frederick area. see what s happening? see that circular signature. we haven t had that inned catcation yet. let s put a velocity scan of what it will do is highlight and nothing is showing u that s good news. highlights shows up. that s good news. highlights what s coming towards the radar red versus green. when they are close we see right there, there could be a possibility of something starting to row date. so you know we have mount airy damascus watching that cluster. let s take that off and let s try to throw in some other indicators from maryland s most powerful doppler radar as we are tracking this storm west of mount airy. let s show you, yeah, mount airy new market, ijamsville the heaviest of the rain. and if you are familiar with interstate 70 in eastern sections of frederick county. frederick is in a valley. the mountains bank off to the west, and they are in a valley and you roll up. a gradual incline into the ridge near mount airy and once the storms roll up, they get extra lift and spin and that s what we are indicating here. looks like at least some sort of circular signature here with a couple bulges of energy rotating through carroll county and westminster. the heaviest activity on top you. 140 what is 29, 32, looks like you have yourself a possibility of some really heavy rain and in addition to the heavy downpours and flooding, vivid lightning and the possibility of hail. this is off towards manchester. and ham stead get being hampstead getting hit hard. doppler radar has a couple different function keys that gives us basic structure if there s anything rotate being. we don t see that at least with funnel clouds and lightning with the storms. and let s pull this back a little bit wider. westminster towards the south. see this is what i am talking b once we get the icons showing up, this does the math within the storms. works the outrhythms and cal hugh kew lation and gets us to see there s a possibility that calculations and gets us to see this is a possibility of dropping hail. hail possibility is right there in the purple shading. and if we start to get some indications on our scope here, that particular cell heading on the west side of westminster in the next 13 minutes. we have gotten until 7:45 until the warning expires. that s why we are on the air in carroll manchester 23 minutes away. and by the way, this particular storm cell passed this one having the i am look at the calculations and there s 100% threat of hail here. the hail estimated size could be between 3/4 of an inch and an inch and a half in diameter. that s a large hailstone. doesn t mean everybody in the path will get it. but storms that can produce the size hail in one part of the storm structure can also produceand often do protate and produce a funnel cloud. we have hail as large as an inch and half in diameter and that s why you talking about the sky looking green often that s something that you do get when we have hail in the sky. just what happens with the physics of light and how it breaks everything up we are watching this storm cell structure passing through westminster 16ments away. and hampstead 26 minutes away and let s do one more wide loop highlighting all of that lightning strikes basically on target and union bridge new market and now crossing the way on into carroll county westminster and you are on target. and this heads up towards manchester and hampstead and shrewsbury and in york county a watching on cable, the storm will try to pass through hanover and just to the west of shrewsbury but heading towards glen rock and loganville area. we will be watching you again tornado warning will expire at 7:45. and carroll and frederick county. we have had some flooding across the area. and this is a dangerous storm. and there will be more dangerous storms as that severe weather risk will stay with us at least until early afternoon. it s 7:38 right now. let s go back to megan and charley. all right. thanks a lot. one of our own eric has been in the storm and is returning from carroll county and was in westminster when that first wave of storms rolled through this morning. he joins us now live via telephone. you are on your way back and that s good to hear. what did you experience and see though while you were in carroll county. good morning. good morning megan and to everyone at home. driving down 795 was a real chore. as traffic began to build and the rain bands began to come down hard on you, visibility is little to nothing. and as the winds just slammed up against the side, everyone is moving around taking it slow. it s been a real hard commute. the conditions seem to lighten up and another wave just comes down on you. eric, when you talk about waves you talking about lightning, wind, what did you see and did you have a chance to talk to anybody who was out there look for damage? i am talking about winds lightning and rain. i did talk to a sanitation worker who is working. he didn t want to risk it. there was too much movement with the large vehicle that he had, the wind was too much. as you make your way back commuting in with several people trying to get into the baltimore area, what are you seeing on the roads in terms of traffic congestion and stops and people on the side of the road as this severe weather is rolling through. yeah. the traffic flows pretty good and the rain bands hit you traffic comes to a halt and everyone stops suddenly because visibility becomes zero. they have windshield wipers on. conditions are look pretty good. the clouds are moving really fast by us. and i am waiting to get hit with more rain. eric, you are a photo journalist ants are used to seeing severe weather. is this how does this stack up to things you ve seen before? just the fact that storms are popping up one after another? exactly. these storms keep coming up one after another like you said. it is not just one big storm where it hits and passes through. it lightens up and you think you are in the clear. i go out to get shots and than i get hit with more rain again. all right. it s little frustrating. glad you are headed back to the newsroom and we will see you in a bit. thank you very much. eric, thanks. be safe getting home. time for a check of the commute this morning as a result of the weather. and for that we will toss over to kim brown. reporter: thanks. well as eric said, he is our traffic road reporter as of this morning. and he is there in the thick of it. again, we are not getting a lot of reports of accidents. more so, just heavy volume and a lot of people just taking it very, very slow as those rains and winds just come up on you quickly as eric said in carroll county up 795 to route 10. it could be a big problem. especially as you travel the i- 70 corridor as well. looking live at the beltway, traffic is moving at a very slow pace on the outer loop lanes on the left hand side. heavy volume is keeping things down. inner loop is moving better from providence towards 95. but the major interstates looking pretty good in terms of amounts incidents. no around the beltway 83 or 59. very heavy volume and drivers are taking their time as well. we could see very hazardous driving conditions this morning as you make your way around the area. now, in terms of again updates on the airs and area airports, bwi again continuing to report no significant delays. however reagan and doug u.s.are dulles are having major delays. check with your airline about the status of your flight. we have an accident here in east baltimore at haliburton and one at white marsh and uniontown, carroll county one of the areas justin has been highlighting, route 832 old taneytown at richardson, a weather related closure. details are coming in with that in about that whether it s high water or debriss and tree downs in the roadway. i would avoid that traveling through uniontown. route 832 at richardson road a. weather related closure. justin has more details. we have another accident quickly montgomery county wisconsin avenue at gross vineyard lane closed in both directions because of a major accident. so, do you have updates about people perhaps heading towards montgomery and dc area the conditions down there. reporter: yeah. that s the storm cluster that is heading in our direction. as you talk about that storm. as we are watching the storms northwest, some of you have been saying look, there s been nothing here anne arundel county. in fact, my friend on facebook jeff posted on the wall that he is in bel air and the sun is popping out. and that s a bad thing. that s a bad thing. if you have the sun this morning, that means we are going to charge the atmosphere with more fuel, and if you have any peeks of sun from anne arundel county to the eastern shore, that means the target for you is later this morning to the afternoon. and it s not going to be good. so bel air you had a few clusters of rain roll through. some heavy downpours. and that s passed through. if you have the sun out, that s nod good. we have the line of storms reorganizing on back towards the northwest. we will take you there right now by the way out of damascus and montgomery county heavy rain into damascus and we were watching that storm that was formed out of damascus that prompted the warning for carroll and frederick county that will exspire at 7:45. the storms indicating 40 to 50- mile-per-hour forward movement. and now they are on top westminster. you have been getting hit with round after round and pound after pound of rain. taneytown hit earlier this morning. you have another band just on back towards the west. and i want to shift the focus back a little bit because right now it s been about carroll county. it s been about the friends up near gettysburg and york pa getting the storms across border and another wave will hit and it s not going to be a fun morning for the next 1 to 2 hours and more towards the west. let s shift the focus and give you an indication of what it looks like. this is in eastern frederick county the greens. a golf course and irene kassorla aimsville. 2 ijamsville when we had the broad cast they had 3/4 of an inch so most of that come in the last hour we are talk about an inch and a half in the last hour. that produce mostly heavy down pours. flooding in frederick county. one of the first ones to go and local ponding on roads up through carroll county. we have flood warnings in adams and york and pa. put this in motion a volatile morning but let s show you other views. look at the camera bounce around westminster. winds at this particular site 41 miles per hour. the heaviest rain with 100% humidity. and you heard eric talk about it. our videographer saying visibility will cut down to near zero at times. the cameras prove it to you. still a very warm volatile 69 degrees there. let s shift the focus to baltimore and this is looking north northeast. storms will be on the left side of the camera view. but it s looking threatening. and we have had one or two waves of rain in the city and northbound. most of it has been western howard and frederick and carroll county through southern pa. it is just a matter of time until it heads in our direction. mount airy looking at the storms. ugly clouds that came through. and lots of reports of that green shade that is an incation there s hail and we told you maryland s most powerful doppler radar highlighted hail up to 1 1/2 inches in diameter. a quick peek of sun fueling this rain coming through right now. again, we are tracking this on maryland s most powerful doppler radar. and we have got ourselves this tornado warning that at 7:45 which just expired, but we aretracking this for you as the tomorrows continue to move up towards the northeast. a back edge of this storm looks like it heads man chester in 23 minutes. westminster according to our indication even though the tornado warning expired, the backside of the storm will pass through in the next 13 minutes which means by 8:00, you may not only see the rain stop, you may see peeks of blue and a ray of sunshine unfortunately that s only going to fuel more storms to fire up. we have a very, very active atmosphere. and that will just help to swing through as we go through today with the risk of tornadoes subsiding but severe weather likely to stay with us through early afternoon. we will watch baltimore annapolis and eastern shore, and your time frame is coming up probably after 9:00 through early this afternoon. back to you megan and charley. all right. thanks. 7:46. we want you to stay safe. the storms killed a confirmed 178 people total throughout thesouthern u.s. 128 in alabama. reports of 61 earlier that is now gone up. 38 in mississippi. and we have got numerous death and the governor of alabama just said on good morning america saying owie expect the total to rise. we will send you back to good morning america for a moment but i say you walk up is everything all right? that tornado watch is extend to 3 p.m. we have been talking about extension and now this is a matter of the weather service catching up here. and we have anne arundel, howard, montgomery prince george s county included with carroll and frederick even towards calvert charles and st. mary s. this goes through 3 p.m. so we have ourselves basically a look and i will get back to the doppler radar in a moment. but we have watching just a developing situation here just trying to catch up with it as we watch the storms. the tornado warning just expired in carroll county and it was your second warning of the morning and while some people in baltimore city down towards annapolis eastern shore saying it is not a big deal let me go back to my routine. the storms have a history that killed over 178 people the death toll up to. and we have our tornado watch in central maryland that goes until 3 tm. 3 p.m. on the eastern shore this is one of the problems we have here forecasting because i cannot put out a watch or warning. that comes from the government and the weather service office. and our area is split in half between two weather service offices. the one in sterling virginia pits it out until 3 p.m. mount holly new jersey is what goffers the eastern shore nothing from them but i suspect this is passion towards the east and i expect a possibility of having severe weather continue statewide throughout the afternoon and we will be here to let you know about it. next wave in an hour and a hour and half around nine. nine i want to give them a time frame to get through the routine. some concerned do i send kids to school. and getting through the storms is probably you know really big bern. most schools are well reenforced with still and brick and they have personnel that are able to handle this situation. and versus the houses. tornadoes on the ground for ten minutes or less for the most part they are the size of maybe a city block or smaller. so it s like throwing a dart at the map as to who gets hit but you are better to be in a location where they are better prepared so i would encourage the kids go to school and that s what the officials are and can deal with them and keep them safe and calm with friends. field treps i helped to cancel a few to the zoo i doesn t think that was a good idea. not at all. great work. he s been it at since 4:15 and we will continue through the the morning. now back to good morning america but we will have more updates throughout the heavy rains passing through westminster about to cut off northern baltimore county heavy rain and height ening extending up through york county pa expect more flooding to kin - continue and by the way the extension the tornado watch through 3 p.m. and the orange shaded counties westth of of the bay. we got a fresh warning. it s right now at 7:57. and we got a tornado warning. we are going to to stay on the air. i want to will he the production staff know. you saw this in effect right nowp we got a fresh tornado warning. issue for baltimore and carroll county. this expires at 8:45. and as we continue to watch a very volatile atmosphere let s show outradar. that s what we have been doing all morning i want to thank the director for hanging on this with. this just popped up as we watched so we can guarantee to be the first one to let you know about this. and it s this particular storm right now. maryland s most powerful doppler radar watching this come out of eastern carroll county. really concerned about this particular storm structure as we will swing it back and give you indications on what s happening as we have got the inner working of the doppler radar. one path of possible rotation with this storm the southern edge the heaviest rain doesn t necessarily love it and the fact prove it the fact that it s pointing in the wrong direction tells mow it sees it spinning on the southern edge. it will be the south or southeast quadrant or portion of that storm cluster where we get the possible storm. this is rolling its way through southern sections of carroll county and let s see if we can get any other indicators onmaryland s most powerful doppler radar. we are watching possibility of this particular part of the storm pass on the east side of the westminster. this one looks like it has a handle on the movement. glen rock # 2 minutes away 20 22 minutes away. shrewsbury on target. and northern sections of carroll county so manchester is right on target of the cone of probability with this storm. this extends through northern baltimore county. you are watching us in the city around the beltway. this is not your storm. but we have to watch this southern fringe looks like it may be clipping reisterstown and owings mills and we will watch that in the next 10 to 20 minutes. we are watching the radar because that s pretty much where we are at. ed pump has been juiced up and the pump has been juiced up and we have a look at the storms having a chance to rise into the atmosphere with the pin and sheering of the wind allowing the storms to rotate and anyone not only can help produce funnel clouds but large hail an indication by maryland most powerful doppler radar. let s see if we can get this other cluster back on the screen. looks like eastward movement of the line itself we are looking hunt valley 30 minutes away i think you will see it go downhill faster than that. but that puts us in 8:15, 8:30 time frame northern baltimore county. cockeysville is in on this. we will watch the line head towards jarrettsville 45 minutes away between 7:30 and 8 in western sections of har forecounty. so bel air is harford county. so bel air is in on this as well. the individual cell is probably going to pass off toward your north but we continue to watch lightning strikes with the storms. and remends you that if you have a tornado warning, and we are talking north of the beltway right now, but it doesn t mean you are out of the woods city and southbound through annapolis because some of the stuff could be heading your way. but if you are northern baltimore county this is the same drink countless times this morning. grab everyone you have in the house, calmly go to the basement. turn the volume up on the tv and we will give you a play-by- play on the storms. we encourage you to grab a blanket or pillow in case there s wind damage that could knockout a window and give trajectory additional force throughout the house and add to injury potential. please look out. the storm in addition to that, if you know someone on the road, tell them to pull over. in fact, i am going to toss it over to kim brown because my mother-in-law is driving up interstate 83 right now. and i want to give hear personal note to pull over even though i told her ten minutes ago it might be head being her way. let s get the traffic report from kim and get the latest from charley and megan coming up as well. reporter: thanks. well, ace check the cameras, we found a camera on the harrisburg expressway at york road and the rain was coming down very, very hard. you saw drivers really taking it easy with the speeds. some people did pull over because that rain comes through very quickly makes your visible go down to very, very low. you can t see too much. that s in front of you. so make sure you have enoughbraking distance in between you and the vehicles in front of you because it s going to be that type of morning. so far so good. we have a few accidents around the area most of them on some of the side streets and in and around baltimore county. look live, this is 95 aroaching white marsh boulevard southbound lanes on the right- hand side of your screen. and as you approaching white marsh boulevard, southbound lanes on the right-hand side of the your screen. approaching the beltway, some people are slowing down to look at that. but no lanes blocked at this time here on 95 or the baltimore beltway or on the harrisburg expressway. 83 in both directions at least in terms of incidents is looking pretty good. driving conditions and volume quite a different story. as we look at the maps, we have several accidents around the areas. baltimore city a crosh at south broad crash at south broadway. and we are clearing a crash in white marsh eastbound pulaski highway at white marsh boulvard. but expect a slow ride around the area. depending on where you are and where the weather is impacting your drive commute. it will be a slow one in terms of driving conditions and visible factoring into the rush hour. now back to you. thanks. now as always we ask you tell us what you are seeing and what you are hearing. be safe but if there is something interesting you are seeing, let us know. i heard from gay on facebook who lives in new windsor and said it was raining like crazy and would stop and she has seen a lot of lightning overnight and early morning hours. and i heard from my wife driving along i-70 and has seen heavy sheets of rain and wind and lightning. and the national weather service we will get to you with this in moment. the national weather service says the tornado warning includes carroll, frederick and baltimore counties in effect through 8:45 this morning. that was brought into us from the newsroom. but staying safe during the storm the storms as look downtown baltimore this morning. you see the dark heavy clouds once again hanging across parts of the harbor. baltimore county is in the tornado warning through 8:45. heavy clouds seem to be the scene acruets downtown area. let s be be honest. if you looked live at this, most of us see that certain morning and don t think any of it. this is not that kind of morning. you need to take precautions because the weather is severe. that s why we are sending it own to over to linda so with pieces of ad piece of advice. reporter: yeah. what happened in alabama in the south. it is such a great reminder that we need to take this seriously. the destruck was devastating. we have destruction was devastating. we have tips. the first three stories here are all about the tornado and what you need to do to make sure you and your family stay safe. we have a link in the slide show. when you have a tornado warning what you need to do at home. first, you need to go to the basement. find the lowest level in your house because that tends tonight safest place. if you don t have a basement, the rule of thumb is to put as many walls between you and the outside. so perhaps, a small closet, a bathroom, and take some blankets and pillows as you heard justin say in case there s any debris. the wind may blowout the windows. you want to make sure you have something there to take cover sow you don t get hurt. another thing you can keep in mind is if you have small children in your home, perhaps infants, you know, if they have infant car seats strapping them in that and going to the lowest level of the basement can be safe for you and your family. also, turn off the weather radio. turn up the tv and we will keep you posted on everything that is happening. if you have a loved one on the road and know anyone driving lots of rain is out there and also if you see a tornado coming here, you need to pull over to a safe place perhaps find a nearby building where you can go and get shelter. one of the most dangerous places to be on the road if grow see a tornado is overpasses. you want to pull over and find a safe place for yourself. also romaine if we scroll up under the weather section, you have several tabs for you. we have a learning to tornado al learning to tornado alley link to tore fadeo alley. it s a crazy season as far as tornado alley. it s been a crazy season as far as tornadoes. that number went up, maybe even over 100 now killed. but, just this tracks the latest as far as tornadoes in the area. you can find that on the website but again, abc2news.com very very helpful tips as you ride out the storm. linda so, abc2 news. all right, thanks. it s 6 minutes after 8. and linda was talking about the wild weather we have seen nationally. toc cay lousa, alabama looks flattened. tuscaloosa, alabama, looks flattened. the associated press is confirming 178 deaths as a result of this, 128 in alabama. they had 61 yesterday. and that s now more than doubled. mississippi saying 32 dead. and tennessee saying 6 are dead and 11 killed in georgia. one in virginia, and 11 in arkansas from a few days ago and coupled in a few weeks ago, the 32 that were killed in north carolina. we have broken that 200 threshold. so this is serious and that s why we are keeping you up-to- date up-to-the minute with how severe the storms are. absolutely. we want you to stay safe. now over to justin who has been monitoring everything from the weather center. what s the latest. latest is tornado warnings across the area. ratings from the latest update. this from mark from my facebook page from south central carroll to western howard, 32 downtown sykesville around 7:55. early dark the entire time and they have eeriely dark and we are watching baltimore and carroll and frederick. 8:45 is the time frame. that s your tornado warning. we have had a few warnings here already. and a few more. this seems tonight prime target but the fact that baltimore is now included we are slowly shifting that line off towards the east. the orange shaded counties tornado watch. now extended until 3 p.m. that includes west of the bay and we have that potential. we will give outradar. we want to break you the radar in moment. even though the sun popped out briefly near bel air and harford county that s adding more fuel as it works towards the east. and this yellow shading a different weather service off the eastern shore has it on the severe thunderstorm watch. i do expect you will actually get into tornado watch tear tore yoi for the afternoon. you have to wait until they post that until i pass it along. i am telling you my spec hags watching the storms and this morning, a lot of that stuff worked out. we are looking at maryland s most powerful doppler radar tracking this cluster near manchester. lineboro getting hit. this hind over towards stewart town and new freedom and this cell to the west. real concern in western and southwestern corner of york county. crossing 83 right now is prime time for traffic. and this is in the hereford zone. parkton up towards hereford while hall we have ourselves a rough ride and this individual line itself is moving toward the east. and they are moving up toward the northeast at 50 miles per hour. hunt valley less than a half who are away on the cone of possibility. you see how the cone extends down to the south? that means that this line may be extending to the south as well. but this includes fallston and we have been watching and i have been saying if you follow my twitter account, justin weather i think harford county has to look out for the srn edge of the storm and it could reach you close to 9:00. 8:45 is this warning. watch for all of us until 3. and severe thunderstorms possible and that crossed to the eastern shore and that will be prime time for them to get hit. i think with nasty weather because they are heating up this morning. we will watch the storm diminish for us in the afternoon and temperatures slide back this evening and cool down overnight as we get into a more stable environment. here s what we are looking at. thin ribbon. this really concerns me because i ve been focused on local areas for a time. and now a bigger picture. this is what i am concerned with. this is prime target region for severe weather risk. frontal bondry to the west. we have been boundary to the west. carroll and you see the next line, that s not the cold front. but that line shows force and showing a nice solid development here. even though a couple breaks along the way rolling into the mountains. and once that crosses the mountains, it gets into the environment here. and we have slight hint of a south eastern wind coming off the chesapeake and the storm complex is rolling in from the west and going up in height, winds change the direction from southeast to south to southwest and that is what adds to the rotation here of the storms. and especially as we go on in through the morning and afternoon hours. our future radar indicating that that line, yeah, that s the one we watched and the radar at least from our computer model indicates that s the one that will throw punch at us at lunchtime. we have a few more hours. and that s why the watch extends through 3 p.m. we will follow this on to the eastern shore. and again, we do believe that you will have your severe weather risk across the bay bridge from caroline county and beyond through the afternoon and finally ease out heading through the evening hours. and clouds and cooler temperatures tomorrow. maybe a lay day shower and better for the weekend. for today, we have our severe storm risk until early in the afternoon. we have been highlighting that with this tornado warning. while we have been on the air. i apologize to the rest of you that haven t been under the influence of the storms. we do have to care for the livelihood of other people in the viewing area that are the target even though it s been the same general spot now from tread ribbing and carroll frederick and carroll and baltimore county. we are looking ought for. tornado warning until 8:456789 doppler radar indicated there are tornadoes moving at 50 miles per hour. by the way, the frederick warning has been dropped. they are under a flash flood warning that extends up towards carroll county. and southern pa york and adams because of heavy rain. there s been some flooding but we are watching the tornado warning and pink shaded counties in carroll and baltimore county. the rest of us under a watch. now back over to our doppler radar. and as we have been highlighting the storms, let s put this back in motion one more time. and we will show you lightning strikes with the storms. again, the individual lines moving to the north northeast. i have been mentioning carroll mentioning in through harford county. while our radar is indicating the storms themselves may be riding their way more towards pennsylvania, than towards your direction, the southern edge is filling back in. and there s another stronger larger line on back towards the west. westminster, look, 8:45 is the expiration and that s from this initial storm passing through manchester and look at this next line. i am concerned about this. frederick i said the warning is dropped. guess what? it came back in. and we have to watch this cell as we re tracking the possibility of some rotation through the heart of frederick. this is where 270 and 70 cross. a lot of traffic is there. definitely going to be some flooding. they have had issues with drainage on the roadway to begin with. and now we have a possibility of anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of rainfall so far this morning. and in fact, i can show that to you in eastern sections of frederick county. there are the greens and ijamsville. 48-mile-per-hour wind but they have had over 2 inches of rainfall and a chunk of that fell in a one hour time frame between 6:45 and 7:45. we go back to the radar and highlight frederick to mount airy, the next wave. looks like it is developing intensity. so let s go back to maryland s most powerful radar with the still sweep and see if we can get an incation if the storms are showing indication of the storms showing extra rotation that s on tap for frederick and we throw any particular screens on our radar. there it is. there s rotation down there. this is to the south i think that may include frederick. this purple shading is just off the edge of your screen. let s move this center. we are looking 15 minutes awayup 15 and 15 along the river, definitely getting heavy rain bands. doppler radar indicateed 3 or 4 inches just this morning. and emmittburg 19 minutes and gettysburg less than a half- hour for this line. the line itself is on top of you. it s the particular cell that could be rotating through. once again, we have a tornado warning. i want to recap for baltimore har foreconnie joining harford county just joined the list. we have to stay with this and i want to remind you this is what we have been it will you through the morning. and we are telling you through morningch and we are not being let down by the radar because that encates the storms are rotating and lifting individually up toward the northeast. but we have had this line trying to fill et cetera way on back towards the south and west and that s why i have been concerned with the southern edge of this line. it s crossing the hereford zone. this may actually just clip extreme northern section of harford county north of jarrettsville and heading up towards fond grove. this is up by pretty boy reservoir in baltimore county and hereford zone where the heaviest of the rain is. the southern edge of the line especially in the environment we are in are the ones with the best potential for rotation and have the potential for extenning the rain further to the south. and as you remember when we see the pictures like across the region yesterday. a lot of times the tornadoes fall in a rain free zone of the storm. we are showing you the heavy rain on the radar. the reason why storm chaseers get out ahead of a storm and can see some of the pictures and the rain free zone is because that s where the twister form south and east main cluster. the heavy rain and hail, part of the same complex but thrown into different parts of the cloud. and a different area. these were all yesterday around the mid atlantic and these were tornadoes that had destruction in addition to the deadly forcein the deep south. we have add die nam, across mayor die nam, across mayor dynamics across maryland to give us a extra push many we upgraded the tornado warning and extended that. it now includes harford county and baltimore county and carroll county and frederick county. and this takes us on in through 8:45 this morning. anyone of these storms have the potential to spin up and all we can do at this point in time is passe long any information that you share with us. we get it from emergency management. we get from storm spotters. and we can track through maryland s most powerful doppler radar. we will see if we get an indication of what the storms might be doing. we will track this cell back here. just for a storm path heading up towards shrewsbury in the next 10 to 20 minutes. passing through new free do. you are getting the worst of it, but we are tracking the back edge. and it sometimes the edge of the storm and the rain free zone where you can get rotation. let s see if we can put on the velocity scan and get any indication here. when you get the greens and reds next to each other, those are winds moving in opposite direction in reference to the radar and that s why we have the potential of storms there. we will shift back towards taneytown and frederick. and you are under the tornado warning. the entire area is going to lift one more time tornado warning until 8:45 frederick, carroll, baltimore, harford counties. storms basically on the northern and western extremity. but they are starting to develop, evolve and expand and anyone can drop dangerous hail and lightning. we have heavy downpours and flooding across the area. that possibility of produing tornadoes will persist. baltimore, you are not in it right now. but as we watch the storms, that line back to the mountains, that is going to swing through and that s why i ve given a time frame after 9 a.m. through the afternoon we will start to look around baltimore annapolis and the eastern shore. let s go back to charley and megan. thanks so much. we have been asking you to check in with us to let noise what you are seeing. jen she said the sun popped out and then it was very quickly covered by dark clouds and said it was creepy. and justin talked about how that could affect the severity of the storms as they refuel and refire. let s look at the harbor cam. you see the rolls and rolls of severe clouds. er in coming in. low lying clouds and very dark. the severity of the storm is not in the baltimore city region yet. and the outlying counties, again, that tornado warning in effect for frederick, carroll, harford and baltimore counties. that s what we are dealing with this morning. and megan, people keep asking why are we focusing on the severity of the storm. it s because of the precedent the storm set for the past three days. absolutely. we have been hearing 173 people died from the storms in the south that we probably have seen the video and we will show you in a moment. but tuscaloosa, alabama, the video is incredible. you are looking right now at pictures from a tornado that happened and this is the aftermath. complete chaos. there s a lot of debris. you can see people they have nothing to return home to. a lot of injuries and a lot of deaths reported and that s why we are taking this so seriously. of course, we are not seeing anything this severe. you never know and we want you to stay safe. chance of the severe storms popping up happens in an instant. many times they are on the ground on a minute or two. to give you perspective on tuscaloosa, that s the home of the university of alabama. 85,000 total population there. something you would see similar to maybe a columbia or ellicott city. 85, 90,000 total population. so when you see that type devastation, and destruction across the area, again, alabama is reporting 128 deaths so far, the severity of the storms is something that has to be taken seriously. it s not confined to one part of the country. it s something that can pop up onu news governor bently the governor of alabama says he expects things to get worse. there are a lot of people missing and a lot of questions going on. here, we have heard everybody is safe so far. but the weather is severe and we want to stay on top of that. of course, people are venturing out. they have to go to work and people are saying it s tafty to nasty. you said your wife said there were sheets of rain i-70 between here and frederick as justin showed throughout the day frederick county and carroll county. severe rain and sheets of rain lightning and wind and all the things you expect with a storm like this. it has to be affecting the commutes. now it s here in baltimore county. so let s check the roads with kim brown. reporter: thanks. well as you said, it s worse out in fret ribbing county and carroll county. i-70 route 32 and route 140, expect hazarous driving conditions as the rains really come through and make visibility a very, very big issue. and especially a lot of people are taking it slow. people are keeping their speeds down allowing braking distance between themselves and the vehicle in front of them. these are all important things to consider going out the door. you mentioned fortunately, it s not having a huge impact in baltimore in terms of incidents and accidents, volume, yes. we have a lot of volume on the roadway right now. looking live, this is on the west side liberty road 695 left side of the screen the outer loop is jammed all the way from old court road heading towards i-70. very, very heavy volume. on the southwest corn, it movesbetter on the outer loop. as we see traffic is flowing freely here. but again, back on liberty road, it is not it s quite a different story. traffic jammed on both loops at old court road. looking at providence road, that s the outer loop. it s extremely slow between bel air and york road. inner loop moves better fromprovidence towards 95. and i checked the harrisburg expressway cameras, it didn t look too bad. 95 doesn t look too bad at mountain road. 95 it slows towards the white marsh area because there s a accident at the beltway south on 95 and people are slowing down to look at that. no problems reported here in anne arundel county. 50 at 97 westbound lanes moving very well from the bay bridge toll plaza to the interchange. but as justin said, annapolis anne arundel county eastern shore they are going to get that get it worse later. we have several accidents around the area and reisterstown a. crash involving several vehicles route 30 at ruth st. joe drive. noiment getting word the intersection is close but you could expect significant delays. if this is where you travel. also dealing with a pair of accidents in the city. one at erdman and macon and we did have another accident southbound 95 at caton avenue. that blocks the shoulder many some drivers are looking at that. and the outer loop at bw parkway at 295, we had a accident involving three vehicles. that has been cleared off to the shoulder. all lanes are open. expect some significant delays as you make your way around the area. pretty much all around 695, 95, again slower southbound from white marsh to the fort mchenry toll plaza moving slow. making your way towards the dc area, you are going to find all lanes open on 95 between laurel and the capital beltway. no issues on the bw parkway. but in montgomery county, we are getting word of an accident on the inner county corrector icc route 200 near the shady grove exit taking away one of the lanes there. also, traveling via air this morning, bwi continues to report no significant delays. however, laguardia, newark, philadelphia, dulles and reagan national reporting some delays pushing 30 to 40 to even up to an hour delays. so try and call your airline before you even leave your house this morning. but it s going to be a slow and difficult morning commute. now back to you. thanks. eva is saying justin you will want to hear this. he says emergency sirens going off in darlington and the darlington street area once again in harford county. they are now as part of the tornado warning this morning. a reminder as we dealing with the warnings and watches. and we say it all the time but we can t say it enough. stay somewhere safe. if you don t have a basement, stay away from windows. turn on the tv loud so you can stay with us because we will ride it out with you. people are asking about the condition and the safety of children who are in school. high school students reported in. we talked about it earlier. the safety of the buildings themselves. the structures and the staff on hand they are trained for a situation like this aren t they. yes we encourage you if you can get there, that s the place to be. one person respond saying you know, what school is better than my 100-year-old house. exactly. and i have to get to work and maybe because they will be with their friends and in a better mood and have other distractions. not be as panicked or concerned. that s the last thing we want to do. we want people to stay safe and not freak out. this is the one storm right now. i wanted to highlight one you talked about up to the north. darlington over here this is the cell. southern edge is where we can develop and we developed a tornado signature. tornado vortex signature tv yes we call they will on the southern edge. shrews bury time to head for cover. this is southern pa but this is the real deal. watching this storm complex while we are showing winterstown and dallastown 13 minutes away red lion passing off towards the north e . looks like it will hop over on the other side of 83 from glen rock and hit the other side maybe on the east side of york, pa. we are watching the possibility of the southern edge of this line. this southern part that s rain free that may produce the twister rotating to the northern half. if possible we get twist and no rain areas but i want to highlight another storm, another storm complex that popped up back towards the southwest. this is the warning that is extended back towards frederick and carroll county. you see that little kink around frederick? we have been highlighting this one as well. let s see if we can get some indications here on the doppler radar. mayor lean most powerful doppler radar highlighting the fact these storms and what they are doing. we will go to the north side with hail producing storm indicate by doppler. these storms show the possibility of 3/4 to 1.5 inch hail. these are storms that are moving at 50 miles per hour and it will take this path. that one takes us through taneytown and westminster 31minutes away. the tornado warning expires at 8:45, this may get extended watching the cell. i want to to read other storms in the path of the storm. now clearly indicated at 45 mile pore hour forward speed. by doppler radar. and this was initially near balancinger creek heading through new market. green valley mount pleasant. we have got mount airy in the target and that s just on the edge of our screen here. we will relit that for you in a moment. looking at westminster, union town and this is the time if you heard your town if it s nearby this is time to take cover. we are not trying to blow this out of proportion with over 170 people killed yesterday in storms. and that same general energy now shifting eastbound. we get a taste of it today here in maryland. and i can t count how many tornado warnings we have had since 4:30 in the morning. we have been on since 4:30 this morning. just want to highlight the fact that some of these storms, they are racing towards the northeast at roughly 45 miles per hour. it will take this cluster and move it up towards westminster. let s draw a iwo jima wedge here. and this one is going at 45 miles per hour. we will be on top of westminster in a half an hour. hampstead 42ments away takes us to manchester about the same time. they are next door to each other. if we shift our focus, watching the storm complex, head through northern baltimore county, we had one pass through. the warning expires 8:45. but if the storm does what doppler radar says it s going to do, that means we may extend or put a new warning up here for baltimore county. this takes us through harford county as well. and this may be up towards jarrettsville heading through the next 45 minimum to an hour. this cone targets once again northern carroll and northern baltimore and southern sections of york county. this does include the areas right from looks like route 14 and that would be not route 14 exit 14 on 81. and that extends from liter heights through gentleman cobth right by lake redman. some of you pass that. down through loganville. and on through glen rock and shrews berry a potential tornado with the storm system in the next half-hour, 45 minutes. we got to shift our focus from where the immediate area getting hit. two of the things we have to do is number one, watch out for what s been happening rye now the right now in addition to where it s going. taneytown is getting it now. westminster the next round is coming through. westminster you have been hit very hard. in fact, i can show this to you through the storm center weathernet. we have had a look at a couple storms passing through. warnings continue and there s carroll and frederick county and york pa in a tornado warning until 9:15. just in on our screen. this is what just in on our scream ijamsville 21 to 40-mile- per-hour winds. we had 42-mile-per-hour gusts on the camera site. 41-mile-per-hour wind atmarriottsville. and this is winters mill. look at the wind bouncing around. occasionally visibility dropped down to near zero and look at bright lights and dark clouds off in the western skies. the vantage point is where the storms are coming from. you are still 71. you got an eastern component which i do believe any time will help to these storms reach the full potential in our part ofmaryland and 46-mile-per-hour wind gusts. there s the green ijamsville and their sun is popping out. and that s dangerous. it could help fuel more storms. they have seen over two inches rain and some sports more. baltimore one band of rain watching the scois to the north. that s what we are looking at right now. there s mount airy seeing a few rounds of extreme weather. and once the storm pass and another birse of sunlight fuels more storms burst of sunlight fuels more storms. mount airy in reference to the doppler radar. and as you can see with the line of storms producing more lightning back there right in the center of the screen, there a mount airy and frederick up towards westminster and i will tell you up toward the west side of westminster taneytown union bridge towards manchester, this is the area hit hard by the storm a couple weekend ago with the confirmed tornado. looks like that s where the heaviest stuff is passing through. hanover is getting it. that s where our friend up across pennsylvania. they have had flooding rains near gettysburg but it s a dangerous line from hanover to the west side of york passing through in the next 20 to 30 minutes. and we have our tornado warning in carroll county until 8:45. frederick 8:45. york goes 9:15. and severe thunderstorm warning on the back edge of the tornado warning as this rolls through. and it next. down to the south. south of frederick. dough mass can you rockville in montgomery county, they still have the potential storms just on the doorstep knocking through and while we are looking at our warnings expiring around the immediate area, i do expect them to pick up again so baltimore harford county still be on the lookout of the southern edge of the storms can produce rotation and can produce twisters. charley talk about twisters. charley talked about the tornado sirens. darlington in. yes. it s here in eastern har forecounty. that may just be north of port deposit showing up right there where conowingo dam is. that s a distance away from the storms. but even if you don t see it on radar, the benefit of the doppler radar network fully implemented in the mid-1990s saved countless lives. the extension of a warning from an additional 10 to 20 minutes can save your life and get the the warning out to more people and get you down to a safe place. and that s what we encourage. better safe than story and better nothing happen and it sound hike we are tooting our horn and showing off the radar than something hit you. ton taneytown is coming through. dangerous lightning and heavy downpours and there could belarge hail and look for wind gusting over looking for winds gusting over 70 miles per hour. we will continue to watch this and recap the estimates across the area and some of the damage reports and toss eye back over to megan and charley. it s 8:34. we have been hearing from you on facebook. amy lives in eldersburg and says kids at liberty high are in the gym to stay safe. as a reminder york county pennsylvania tornado warnings extend until 9:15. but people in the baltimore county area, leafs let s give them an indication of what things look like. we will go live to sherrie johnson live yoit outside the abc 2 stewsos. she is not in danger and is close to shelter. reporter: we are in rogers forge in front of the station here. and to set the picture, you know, a little brosy. not too bad. we can see the trees moving a little bit. just a little breezy. the skies look a little ominous and cloudy there and overcast. we are seeing what looks like it is going to have a huge heavy downpour. but it s not really bad out here right now. as a matter of fact, we can see some of the gentlemen out here working on the lawn going on about business as usual out here this morning. but, basically, a little breezy, skies are overcast. still a little humid out here. it s not bad at all. so we will throw it back to you in the studio. thanks so much. sherie mentioned people have to go sherrie mentioned people have to go about their business. they say it will be over and i have to go to work. so of course how you going to get there in. check in with kim brown for the morning commute. kim. reporter: thanks. this morning traffic is not the greatest especially as you make your way coming from carroll county frederick county and western howard county and some visibility and road conditions issues on i-70 between the beltway heading towards frederick and same in carroll county route 140, route 32, to 795a. very difficult mouth. but fortunately, mouth. but for the fitly commute. very heavy on volume and travel times but no too many roads shut down or closed because of the weather conditions. it s been pretty much a headache of a commute as you go around the area. now locally right here, the baltimore metro 695. we have seen delaying typical and probably a little longer than normal. as we look live across the topside through parkville and towson. outer loop heavy and slow. speeds down quite a bit coming from bel air road pushing into york road. again, the inner loop looks better heading up from the 83s pushing towards 95. here on the southwest corner, traffic looks really good on both loops. inner and outer loop are moving at speed. but further up on the outer loop near liberty road, traffic is remaining very heavy and slow coming from 795. it s stop and go in areas until you reach the baltimore national pike. and it opens up. inner loop moving good here but making your way towards old court road where things slow down. delays pushed from grown spring up towards i-83 ingle change. on the harrisburg expressway, we have seen ominous looking skies. it looks kind of creepy as viewers said. but the rains are moving through. and we haven t seen any accidents outside of one in the overnight hours on the harrisburg expressway. but be sure to watch your speeds as you could see standing or pooling water on the roadways and it could make for a hazarous hideo plane situation and visibility is bad as the winds come in and blow the rains around. in terms of accidents we have a handful. one of the more provement one it is outer loop to the ramp toward the bw parkway. that s causing delays. south on to 9 259 from westport toward the beltway expect minor delays. accident has been moved out of the travel lanes off to the shoulder. we have an accident on the shoulder south on 95 at caton avenue. south baltimore a crash reported at erdman and macon. police are on the scene there. and again, rivalerstown route 30 at ruth st. low drive a multivehicle crash involving accidents as you make your way through reisterstown. cope that in mine. traveling from the airports bwi reporting no significant delays. there are a couple flights delayed but laguardia, newark, philidelphia, dulles and reagan international reporting delays this morning as you make your way around the area. so traffic is still going to be a problem whether or not you are flying or whether you are driving this morning. so be sure to take your time and be sure to leave allot extra time as you make your way around heading towards wherever you have to go. now back to you guys. all right. of course if you have to go, we want you to check in online. abc2news.com. if you are curious about the weather, you can sign up for weather alerts through the website. go you can go to tornado alley. and you can have live streaming video of of the storm chaseers. we will give you an update on whether we are doing this. the storms that rolled across the south, death toll from the south up to 193. the alabama governor bently was correct when he said the death toll will rise and he has. and why this happened so much when you see 60 reported dead and large number, because when tornadoes hit, they go black. and when first light comes, you see the destruction and devastation. and then you get a more accurate toll and number in terms of the death. 128 in alabama confirmed dead. when you see the video out of alabama, you see homes flattened. it locks like a ghosttown. people are starting to return to their homes and finding nothing. on top of that the death toll is emense. that s why we are doing this. we can t tress the stress the importance of safety first. that s right. it s been sometime since we have had it. this is near the tuscaloosa area. that was an impressive storm. most tornadoes on ground are for ten minutes and they are mall and may take over a city block. wind 250 to 200 miles they can take off roofs and just throw everything in all directions. some of the storms like that one we just looked at in tuscaloosa. a cluster that it proed ef4 and 5. wind 166 to over 200 moils per hour. those are the super cell. those are the rare storms in reference to a category five hurricane. less than 1% actual hi reach in terms of the tornado, they canstay on the ground for longer than an hour like that one of the versus the average tornado that last 10 minutesch the warning is about to expire. four minutes left in york carroll and frederick county. a couple swees questions have come in asking what s the deference between a warning and a watch. a warning has been indicated by radar meaning it s spinning in the clouds and could drop a tornado or spotted by a emergency management or detailed spotter in the area. that s when you need to take a precaution. warning take cover new and it doesn t mean the county but certain parts of the county and we are talking about a watch the orange shaded counties here through southern maryland back through howard and dc, that s is until 3. a watch means the potential for the storms to develop. keep an attentive ear to what could be happening. not a gain see it guarantee it will happen. we will show you what it locks like on the statewide radar i talked about the waves that have come through. the latest round pushing to the north. it did include northern sections of harford county and the sirens were blowing and the drill is better to get you prepared for the real event. and we might have the real event with a mainline forming and looks like it is back from york pa through care role county. i will get here in a moment. i am concerned about this kink near union bridge and back towards frederick and extends down the spine of the appalachian to virginia. warm and humid. we zoom in a little closer and maryland most powerful doppler day ar, we had the first wave go through. harford county york pa with tremendous lightning strikes and rainfall. see the concerning and that s an indication maybe the first in cell is breaking away from this line. once he bike away. they can take on their spin. any one of these have the potential to do that. if you get a closer look at the storms. the wind changes direction with the height of the atmosphere. the storms have been cranking 30, 40 up to 50,000 feet in height. those are tall storms and a lot of force to get them up high. once you look at tomorrows like that. interacting with the wind sheer and you can get rotation. and often as we have seen in many pinckneytures, there s the lines to the north of watkinsville near taneytown. that s telling me that it could be starting to take on their own circumstance lation and westminster i said you were about to get it again. new windsor has it. it is west of mcdaniel college and i really do suspect this is going to produce more wind damage and heavy rain with steven. let s just do this one can path. this send kateed by doppler radar. this one no cities in the path also indicating we are starting to get a handle of what this storm is doing. frederick has taken it so hard with so many storms we are taking you lowser to see if any of the storms are firing up here. now a handle on this cluster. 13 minutes away. wood borrow an union brj. we have a look at the storm. westminster manchester is in the cone of possibility. and probability as the storms move in your direction. mount sire look how ologyly the sky has been. we have heard frr someone that the kids were in the gym to be safe. look at man chfterringly skies. you ve had a few round of heavy rain. sun out is bad news. it will fuel the storms missing out on baltimore. but will head back through. pictures from yesterday nearby in virginia. yes, they had themselves a couple ef1, 2s and a three. wait for the damage report. look at that. it s possible. this is our day to get the storms. tornado watch until 3 p.m. and we have the threat of severe weather and we will have more coverage coming up throughout the morning. back to you. all right. hopefully we are out of it for now but justin will stay on top of this. in 15 minutes is good morning maryland at nine. we will continue to stay on top of the watches and potential warnings that could pop up this morning. until then we will go back to new york for more good morning america. see you coming up in 15 minutes. there s a live look downtown baltimore. cloud look op now is ominous rolling in. stay with us for the complete weather coverage. protect him from that charles has been a single parent who has brought those children up incredibly. he s made them very, very normal kids. thank you all again. and i will be with you tomorrow, outside the abbey. thank you so much to you all. yes, you re wearing your jewelry. there it is. you have the rings. now, the bling. india, tina, katie, thank you very much. next, we peek in the royal recipe book and put nick watt in our live coverage continues, from london. and you know, after the grand wedding ceremony at westminster abbey, we will head back to buckingham palace to kick up their heels for an evening wedding reception. and what will they be dining on? we picked you, nick watt? you re a renaissance man. this isn t about the fashion. it s not about the love story. it s about the food. that s all i care about in a wedding. and i went to see aton, who might be cooking tonight. and here is what we found. known worldwide for his rissoto. it was diana s favorite. using a lot of mushrooms. i don t add too much stock. reporter: i barged into anton mosimann s kitchen, to see what the fuss was about. this is one of princess diana s dishes? yes, it was. reporter: every time she came? every time. chicken bones, reduced it down, and added to the mushrooms. and the secret, i don t use any better. i use a little bit of cream. and another secret, a bit of champagne. reporter: these are secrets. you re telling us. they re not secret anymore. are you making this friday night for the palace? let s taste it first. reporter: you re avoiding my question. incidentally. take a taste. reporter: i talk a lot. but i m a loss for words. next up, the famous caesar salad. i m building it up, leaf by leaf, looks like a tower. reporter: this looks remarkably simple. it s made with a lot of love. reporter: simple but delicious? we had to put mosimann s salad to the test. i m not the caesar salad expert. but cameraman, andy, says he is. put your camera down. they re both good recipes. reporter: you make it look very easy. not expensive. but fresh. reporter: any of us can do this? yeah. why not? i m on the telephone. i can be very helpful. reporter: anton s rissoto and salad aren t the only royal cravings. turns out one of william s childhood favorites is also one of mine. and he s so fond of biscuit cake, she chose it for his wedding cake. this is my mom. i remember having it as kids. i tweaked it. reporter: she is making biscuit cake for a new generation of our family, my son. yum, yum. reporter: where do you think this recipe came from? my mother said it came from denmark. lick it. reporter: that s it? that s it. overnight in the fridge. reporter: overnight in the fridge. with the batter. mm. oh, so adorable. and we have your beautiful mother. my mom, carol, who made this cake. and robin has started eating the cake. i don t like to wait. it s delicious. i love the orange. the orange flavor that comes popping through. mom, you haven t lost it. as good as my mother s. as good as your mother s. and as good as it was on my third birthday. and your best creation is right here. your son. he is adorable. thank you very much. i m talking with my mouth full. and we had the rissoto from anton last night. you can get the recipe for princess diana s favorite dishes at abcnews.com/gma. we re going to have cake. let them eat cake. and we ll be right back. this is good morning we apologize for interrupting. tornado warnings carroll and bolt mosh counties and extend to 9:15 and with a warning in effect we are going to be here guck outinformation and who better than justin berk. justin. thanks. look the morning continues busy a fresh tornado warning in baltimore county it s clipping the northern sections carroll county the same cells we have been talking about again just plain catch up from the weather service to coapt extended warnings but to keep the extended warnings. we don t want to cry wolf and we don t want you to think this is just a routine no big deal. all it takes is that one to cause a problem and we have the warnings extended up towards york and lancaster counties. this is the general flow that is becoming out of the southwest. there s the wide view radar. this is i loin i have been talking line i ve been talking about forming and flowing up to the northeast. the individual storms 40 to 50- mile-per-hour forward movement. the push of the line slowly to the east. carroll and frederick all day and york pa and that s why it s flooding issues from 2 to 4eu7b. of rainfall in the spots. 2 to 4 inches inform these spots. eastern shore your chance is coming. this is what we are watching. again, you can get tornadoes in a rain free section of the storm. so while we are looking at heavy rain westminster you might think reisterstown what s the big deal unless you are this and looking at the dark clouds, a greenish tint an incation there s large hair incation there s large hair indication there s large hail. up to one and half inches in diameter. a vertical motion with the storms. frederick taking it hit after hit after hit. and throwing it toward westminster. taneytown on the edge of the storm and a tour of the radar as we track this warning going until 9:15. hooks like the worst part right now and as we have been highlighting manchester hampstead out of westminster rolling in your direction and heavy rain and the bottom side of the storm and now we have got a little bit of a cluster breakdown to the southwest minister i. say westminster to manchester if this s a funnel dropped out of the cloud it s in your area. it does look like there s a little this concerns meow see the this little bit of a hook there? that s an indication there may be wrapping around. and there may be storms that could wrap around multiple spots. i made the reference this morning like looking at mountain rage range and seeing a few peaks. watching the cluster of thunderstorms and they peak out and within them you can get circulation back towards union bridge and new windsor and extending towards frederick. we have the heavy rain that s been just to the west of mount airy. and it s going to edge in your direction as well. again 9:15 we have a tornado warning extending through central sections of carroll county. southern half is okay. a couple bad storms. we have talked about eldersburg. keeping the kid at liberty high, back into the gym for safety precautions and they on southern around eastern edge is the prime target to get something to spin and drop. it s not necessarily in the rain section but rain free section that we see tornadoes which why we get pictures on the rain free side of the storm. tornado chaseers know what side of the storm to go onto get the best visual that you don t want to see on your doorstep whether it s your home or business or kids in school. glen rock and new tree dom, it s throwing up in freedom, it s throwing up in your direction and up to the north towards central noshing county including loganville and towards the heart of york pa. that route 30 is a bad trip all the way down 83. and heavier storms about to roll through the loganville area glen rock and new freedom. and they are coming off the reservoir area. and again extending to the south. we are focusing on pa because they are in the viewing area and they catch us on the cable. we are looking back towards manchester, westminster look you may get a break here. but there s another round that is trying to move in your direction. let s give the still vision right now with maryland s most powerful doppler radar. let s see if we have rotation showing up as we pull it back a little wider. put a couple different sweeps and level scans as we are tracking the storms. see if we get anything interesting popping up and there we go back towards frederick. this one with the potential of hail, 27 minutes away from westminster. and again, that is just the heart of that storm. the core of the cauliflower as the rain extends further out towards the east. but the worst part of this storm that may produce some hail and rotation passing through hampstead 36 minutes away. that goes outside of the realm of the tornado warning until 9:5. but i think we are going to extend this. i really do. and i how many times have i said. this and we go up and extend it as we drop the coverage. we are about to go into program and we have an hour newscast and we will be all over this up toward the southern pa. and this stuff is coming out of the south and continuing to roll up in the same general direction. let s see if we put one more spin on this near germantown. damascus got hit. more coming your way 18 minutes away from damascus. mount airy, the storm and this potential spin your way in about 24 minutes. and baltimore, towson and down to annapolis, you have not seen much. and it s just to the west. you ve seen the dark skies. we are watching this because this may be on top of your region we are looking for a shift to i-95 later this morning through lunchtime. now back over to you for the latest from the news desk. thanks so much. you must be exhausted. this keeps coming and coming and coming. comes in waves. and with that we will be here with you in the waves cooping you safe. let s give keeping you safe. let s give you a look. still in the tornado warning until 9:15. so, we are about 16, 17 minutes away. sherrie johnson is live with a look at how things are outside. sherrie. reporter: good morning. that s right. we are in rogers forge in front of the studios here, the abc2stewed yois. it s a little
