APM Terminals MedPort Tangier commences second phase of development
Following a total investment of 800 million USD, operations at APM Terminals MedPort Tangier commenced in 2019. It now celebrates its next major development milestone by kicking off phase-2 of the development, which will add an extra 1 million TEU capacity to its footprint, according to the company's release.
Following the terminals inauguration by HRH Prince Moulay Hassan in June 2019, APM Terminals MedPort Tangier ramped up operations, achieving more than 2.2 M TEUs throughput in 2020 with productivity levels reaching above 30 crane moves per hour.
During phase 1, the terminal operated with a 1200 meter-long quay. To support the continued development of the terminal, APM Terminals MedPort Tangier's second phase of development will add an additional 400 meters, increasing the total quay length to 1600 meters. This will add an additional throughput capacity of 1 million containers to reach the previously announced overall capacity of 5 million TEUs.

Last year, the event went virtual in an attempt to stem the spread of Covid-19. This year, Alserkal Art Week is back to a live event with all the safety and precautionary in place and it’s packed with art exhibitions, commissions and talks.

Moroccan artist Madiha Sebbani making waves internationally as creator, curator

MADRID: Moroccan artist Madiha Sebbani has been making waves in the art world as both a creator and curator.
Born in the city of Sale, Morocco, in 1991, the multi-disciplinary artist graduated from the country’s National Institute for Fine Arts, in Tetouan, in 2015 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree online in public art and new artistic strategies from Germany’s Bauhaus University while living and working in London.
The accomplished artist is the curator behind the Young Moroccan Artists (YMA) collective, putting together exhibitions in London, Cologne, New York, and Washington, D.C.
Most recently, Sebbani was invited to curate an exhibition for the ESCAP3 gallery in Cape Town, South Africa titled “Sacred,” a multi-medium show highlighting contemporary art practices in various countries.

The wife of an Australian citizen detained in Morocco over a Saudi Arabian extradition request says she is terrified her husband may end up tortured or killed if he is returned to the conservative Islamic kingdom.
Osama al-Hasani, a former Melbourne imam and academic, was detained in Tangier on February 8, according to his Moroccan wife, Hana al-Hasani, and is due to face court on Wednesday over the extradition request.

Moroccan Government Support for Value Accretive Gas Development
Chariot Oil & Gas Limited (AIM: CHAR), the Africa focused transition energy company, is pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding ('MOU') along with its partner the Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines ('ONHYM') with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy ('Ministry') in Morocco (the 'Parties'). The MOU relates to the Ministry's support of Chariot and ONHYM's Anchois Gas Development project as a potential provider of significant gas to the Moroccan gas market.
The MOU states that the Ministry will support the Anchois Gas Development to enhance job creation, regional integration through the development of strategic infrastructure and the promotion of clean and competitive energy for consumption by the Moroccan industrial sector. This reflects the Ministry's active promotion of the use of natural gas extracted in Morocco to help the Kingdom of Morocco meet its key national strategy of industrial development, the decarbonisation of its economy, diversification of the energy mix and the reduction of its dependence on imported fuels.
