Passion, especially as you point out we don t necessarily have a date unfortunately for when this tax cut compromise will be resolved and every day we wait we get closer to the first of the year? that is the problem. the tax cut thing is paramount. they have to resolve that. the president wants to, and the republicans obviously wants to and they don t want to do anything else until that question has been answered. so that has to be resolved. i don t know if it can be. by wednesday, thursday, friday. it could eat up this entire week. then you re looking at whether or not the leader wants to push the lame duck session into christmas week. that is an open question. but they re really running out of time to take care of other initiatives because this has become so consuming as a result of the rebellion among the liberal house democrats. and as i said, i think there is a chance for s.t.a.r.t. the backers of don t ask, don t tell believe there s an outside chance they have the votes. but h ....
Walking the plank for democrats to fight hard on either the tax cut question or the unemployment benefits question. these are both huge political winners for democrats if they re willing to fight and make the public case. i would say put them together, take votes separately, but do not cave to republican demands that we borrow money to give tax cuts to the rich, especially when we re not willing to borrow money to extend unemployment benefits. have the fight, hold them accountable. go balls to the wall if we must, do anything we need to. and, you know, we will win in the end. but if you essentially say from the beginning we will compromise, we will not fight, that essentially invites the republicans to just walk all over you and that s what we ve seen from the democratic party. it s unacceptable. i think that s where the agreement exists between you and jane. jane and adam, thank you for your time tonight. thank you. thanks. the rising political star of harris continues to sh ....
The last 17 days that they have to do anything. and we ve got a country where there are 2 million people who are set to lose their unemployment benefits by the end of the year. this is christmas time, there are people who can t feed their kids. for the love of god, show some leadership, do something about this. this isn t a situation where people care about your cheap political theatrics and what party s going to get the one up on each other. it s not the time for symbolic votes, it s the time for real leadership and nobody is showing it. adam green, if it was possible to make a deal with the republicans tonight to give them what they want on the tax brackets, at least temporarily for the next year or two years, in order to get an emergency extension of unemployment benefits, would you make that deal? look, i think that it is not walking the plank for democrats to fight hard on either the tax cut question or the unemployment benefits question. these are both huge political winners ....
