Spy Kids is set to be rebooted for the big screen and original director Robert Rodriguez is onboard.
Deadline reports that Rodriguez is to team with Skydance Media and Spyglass Media Group to "re-imagine" the
Spy Kids franchise.
Rodriguez will write and direct the new film, which will this time focus on a multi-cultural family of international spies.

Upbeat diversion: 'We Can Be Heroes' a candy-colored, kid-friendly action film with grown-up appeal

They can be heroes. Just for one day.
We hear certain characters singing the chorus to David Bowie’s classic art-rock masterpiece more than once, and we get the “we can be heroes” message throughout writer-director Robert Rodriguez’s breezy, candy-colored, kid-friendly and cheerfully strange “We Can Be Heroes,” a stand-alone sequel to Rodriguez’s equally loony and upbeat “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D” from 2005.
“Are you saying we could be heroes?” comes the question from one little superhero in the making. “We could be heroes, just for one day,” another mini-superhero sings in reply, and then quips, “Sorry, it was there for the taking!”

We Can Be Heroes Star Pedro Pascal Reacts To Sequel Announcement
Netflix’s latest family movie has proven to be a huge hit with subscribers.
We Can Be Heroes dropped on Christmas Day and so far, it’s believed that 44 million users have lapped up the superhero flick from director Robert Rodriguez. Given that stellar opening, it’s no surprise that the streaming giant quickly ordered a sequel, with Rodriguez revealed to be starting development on a second part soon.
The
Spy Kids filmmaker confirmed the news himself on Twitter. “44 MILLION FAMILIES will have suited up for WE CAN BE HEROES in its first 4 weeks!! And… BREAKING NEWS: The Heroics are coming back for round two! I’m in full development of the sequel with @Netflix,” he wrote on social media. Fans were delighted by the news, as was one of the movie’s stars. Pedro Pascal retweeted Rodriguez’s post and added some praise for the man himself. “Cuz you’re a BOSS!”
