Whiting, N.J.: I’m a Yankees fan since 1978, but I was deeply offended at the deceitful way they marketed their “Satchel Paige Bobblehead Night” event on Thursday, May 11, at the stadium. Paige was pictured wearing a Yankees uniform as if he were a member of our team at one time. He was a member of the New York Black Yankees, a Negro Leagues team, for only one year in 1941. Jackie Robinson didn’t break Major League Baseball’s color barrier until 1947 and the Yanks could have elevated Paige to the big leagues then, but we didn’t and the Cleveland Indians grabbed him in 1948.

Maspeth: Voicer Bob Cavaliere has some valid points. There are people who are professional squatters. They know exactly how to live rent-free. My experience occurred pre-pandemic. A guy used a story that he was recently divorced and wanted to be close to his son. Nothing was further from the truth. He paid rent for a few months, then brought in another renter without my knowledge. He had nightly drinking parties and card games that kept the upstairs tenants awake most nights.

Brooklyn: I’m imploring the media to stop calling the storming of the Capitol a riot. It was not a riot. It was a coordinated, chaotic assault on a building that housed the democratically elected members of a government of 330 million citizens.

Jersey City: The labor movement has improved working conditions, has created workplace democracy, and has fostered active participation in labor-management decision-making. The many benefits, protections and rights that workers enjoy today would never have existed if it weren’t for the laudable efforts of labor unions. There have been initiatives designed to degrade labor standards, weaken unions and erode workplace protections. Those efforts would have diminished the bargaining power and political influence of organized labor.

Manhattan: I respect the often eloquently argued, intellectually honest and impassioned statements of those who consider the killing of innocent human life abhorrent in all its forms, including the termination of early pregnancies.
