The Republican Party's Woke Capital Awakening

One of the unfortunate vestiges of liberalism's lingering influence upon American conservatism, and by extension the Republican Party that is conservatism's default political vehicle, is the pervasive knee-jerk tendency to view government action as per se bad and private-sector action as per se good. This ideology, which might be called "market fundamentalism" or "private-sector fundamentalism," takes on differing forms: in its more benign variation, a principled commitment to unwavering laissez faire, but in its more malignant variation, a less principled commitment to corporate boosterism and outright cronyism.

The realignment now unfolding before our eyes in American politics could finally retire the right’s long-standing and lamentable fixation with these bromides. On the former front, the realignment right’s leading institutions and proponents seek to recover the “Two Cheers for Capitalism” of Irving Kristol, allowing for a greater state role in channeling market efficiency toward the traditional conservative political ends of justice, human flourishing and the common good. That theoretical recalibration is welcome and proper.

Safe Spaces Are Creating a Generation of 'Snowflake Tyrants': Dr. Everett Piper

Safe Spaces Are Creating a Generation of ‘Snowflake Tyrants’: Dr. Everett Piper
Dr. Everett Piper, author of “Grow Up: Life Isn’t Safe But It’s Good,” told Epoch TV’s “Crossroads” Program that cancel culture’s relentless demand for safe spaces is making America’s youth emotionally fragile, less able to cope with hardship, and more prone to advocating for an ever bigger government role in allaying insecurity and providing safety at the expense of liberty.
Piper, who served as president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University for 17 years, said that his earlier warnings, that coddling America’s youth by acquiescing to demands for “safe spaces” and “trigger warnings” would lead to a sad and dangerous infantilization of the American spirit, are increasingly coming to pass.

Five big players to watch in Big Tech's antitrust fight

The House Judiciary Committee’s antitrust subcommittee held a key hearing with Apple and Google executives earlier this week. The previous week, the full panel formally approved the report released by Democrats on the committee last year that outlined ways Google, Amazon, Apple and Facebook allegedly abused their market power.
Here are five big players to watch going forward.
Lina Khan
One of the strongest indicators of Biden’s willingness to rein in the market power of the top tech companies was his nomination of Lina Khan to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Khan, an influential antitrust scholar who was boosted by progressive critics of big tech, is known for her “Amazon’s Antitrust Paradox” paper, which she wrote as a student at Yale. She also served as an aide to the House Judiciary antitrust subcommittee's investigation into the market power of the biggest tech companies.

'Money has an effect': Cruz and Hawley sound alarm on Big Tech donations to Democrats

Open Secrets.
Throughout the election cycle, Alphabet gave around $21 million to Democrats, with Amazon contributing around $9.4 million. Biden and Democratic super PACs were among the top recipients. Overall, roughly 80% of Alphabet's funds went to Democrats, while 7% went to Republicans, according to a report by the
Observer.
Hawley said generous donations can have an effect on the way a lawmaker legislates or how the executive branch might function.
"The truth is tech has really made an effort to court this White House and to court the party, and you look at the enormous sums of money that tech poured into the Biden-Harris campaign, that money has an effect," Hawley told the

Republican Trustbusters Are Embracing Progressives' Agenda.

ThyBlackMan.com) It’s not too often that

Sen. Josh Hawley, the young Republican senator from Missouri, has introduced a bill in Congress entitled: “
Trustbusting for the Twenty-First Century Act.” It may be the most dangerous bill to our economy from a Republican in ages. It would reduce American competitiveness, cost millions of jobs, penalize companies for growing and being profitable, kill funding for small-business startups, and empower unprecedented new regulatory powers to the deep state lawyers and bureaucrats in Washington.

Hawley is no fan of the politics of Big Tech -- who is? -- so he wants to put new teeth into antitrust laws that were birthed during America's first "Progressive Era." His bill would 1) ban mergers and acquisitions by firms with a market cap over $100 billion; 2) change the standard of "'monopolistic" behavior from causing "consumer harm" to one that emphasizes "the protection of competition"; and 3) greatly expand the power of federal regulatory agencies to rein in domestic firms in the high-tech sector.
