Record unemployment declines. record increases in the people in the labor force. i would argue the biden economic plan is working. and is getting america back to work, back on its feet. but the record doesn t stop there. today s report also tells us that record wage gauge, especially for workers in some of america s toughest jobs, women and men who work on the frontline jobs in restaurants, hotels, travel, tourism, desk clerks, line cooks, wait staff, bellmen, they all saw their wages at a historic high. the highest in history. their way went up almost 16% this year, far ahead of inflation, which is still a concern. overall, wage gains for all workers who were not super visors went up more in 2021 than any year in four decades. there s been a lot of press
Disappointed we fell short on voting rights. i was disappointed it took us so long to get the infrastructure deal done. now that we have it done, i think we re going to see it being very helpful. and i do think we will get a version of build back better, i call it education in workforce, because to me that s the core of it, i think we ll get it done. you re right, sometimes it s easier to close a deal if everybody s focused on something else rather than closing phase of those negotiations. i ll also mention, you know, as we re grappling as democrats with what could be a challenging midterm, look, this economic growth number today, you add that up to unemployment declines in wage growths, and we still have some challenges, but i see the signs together with some of the health data of kind of great american comeback that we might really be living and experiencing in a powerful way come spring. i think the successful battle over highly qualified supreme court nominee could add to that
Delta, omicron and even more in europe. our policies are working. we re getting results for the american people. record job creation. record unemployment declines. record wage gains and, by the way, jobs and unemployment are not just another statistic. they go directly to the core of what the economy represents. the ability for hard working americans to live with dignity, support their families and build a better life for their children. people are making more money, finding better jobs and after decades of being mistreated and paid too little, more and more american workers have real power now to get better wages. and to do what s best for themselves and their families. some people see that as a problem. we ve had this discussion in the past. i don t. i see it as long overdue. so when you hear these numbers, they re not statistics. it s a statement of the type of economy we re fighting for, an economy, as i ve been saying from the beginning, built from the bottom up and middle out, not from the top down.

People are struggling. people that are working. this is one thing most people don t understand. the majority of the people who receive snap have at least one member of the family that s working. so this is hurting working people and people who were really struggling. people in montana about 400 or 500 people watched the film and we had a discussion afterwards, and they re upset. they want their government to do more. i think the idea of pull yourself up by the bootstraps just isn t working anymore. you have to do boots on to do that and so many people don t anymore. we re hearing from people all through the government that they want their government to respond to us. let me play for you what the argument is from a couple of republicans. if you re a healthy adult and don t have someone relying on you to care for them, you ought to earn the benefits you receive. look for work. when unemployment declines, the number of food stamp recipients still increases. the point he was making is that the economy is improving, but the number of food stamp recipients, now at 47 million, continues to grow and we just can t afford it.
