Chicago entered Phase 1C of its vaccine rollout on March 29, opening eligibility to those with underlying health conditions and essential workers like restaurant employees, those in personal care services, retail workers and more.

Walgreens to Change COVID Vaccine Scheduler for Some Second Doses After Complaints

Walgreens on Monday said it planned to change the COVID vaccine scheduler on its website following complaints that the pharmacy wasn't adhering to federal health officials' recommended timeline for some second doses.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that the two doses for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine be spaced three weeks, or 21 days, apart. That timeframe is shorter than the recommended space between the two doses of Moderna's vaccine, which is 28 days or one month.

Walgreens Acknowledges Glitch With COVID Vaccine Scheduler Website, Third in as Many Weeks

"We are committed to honoring vaccination appointments that have been scheduled in our system, and our team members are reaching out to all patients affected to attempt to accommodate them," the company continued. "If supply does not allow us to vaccinate some of these patients, we will prioritize them for appointments as additional vaccine inventory is available. We apologize for the inconvenience."
The company did not respond to multiple requests on how many people the glitch impacted, though hundreds of members of the "Chicago Vaccine Hunters" Facebook group posted and commented that they were experiencing that same issue.
Users have repeatedly complained about the Walgreens appointment sign-up process, some on social media calling the latest glitch "a mess" and "so frustrating."

Last week, both Walgreens and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker acknowledged that the pharmacy chain was experiencing problems with its COVID-19 vaccine sign-up process, as the company's website showed no availability or would not allow patients to book available first-dose appointments, frustrating eligible Illinois residents seeking to get their shots.
"In this fluid situation during which vaccine inventory remains limited, our aim is to ensure eligible patients are able to receive vaccinations as soon as possible," a Walgreens spokesman said in a statement on Thursday. "We are continuing to enhance our vaccine scheduler with a great sense of urgency and are committed to providing the most convenient solution for our customers."

CHICAGO (WLS) -- With COVID-19 vaccines in such short supply, the I-Team investigated what public health authorities are doing to make sure nothing goes to waste and the precious commodities end up in people's arms instead of the trash.
Illinois public health officials said as of February 10, 526 COVID-19 vaccine doses have gone to waste so far statewide. That's less than 1 percent of all vaccines administered statewide.
Sometimes the waste is caused by a broken vial or syringe. In other cases, vaccines have been drawn but not administered, or vials have been opened and they've been unable to administer all the doses inside.
