joining a pact court schedule, with two civil cases and two criminal cases all before the election. and that is before the doj possibly drops a second indictment, which, of, course would bring the former presidents total indictment account to three. with us to kick off the hour, msnbc contributor and former watergate prosecutor jill wine-banks. she is a co-host of the hashtag sisters in the podcast, and author of the watergate girl. also with me, msnbc political contributor greg bluestein, he is a political reporter for the atlanta journal-constitution. and msnbc justice and legal affairs analyst anthony coley. he is the former head of the doj public affairs under attorney general merrick garland. it is good to see you all. anthony, how soon are you expecting trump to be charged? that feels like the big big question here. >> yeah, i think we are in the end zone right now. it feels like to me we are talking about a matter of days, not a matter of weeks. important thing to note here is that this is an investigation
why prosecutors were looking into the state farm arena? >> yeah, this video has become an obsession of donald trump's maga supporters, the focus of conspiracy theories. selective footage was shown by rudy giuliani, and hearings here in georgia and beyond. purported to show tampering with a vote. none of that is true whatsoever, it has been disproven by republican officials, by independent reviews, you name. it has been disproven. it's led to death threats and other, just, i, no horrific aftermath for the two election staffers who were the focus of this. this is also fueling a lot of conspiracy theories. and not only is the january six committee looking at this, criminal prosecutor looking at. this and it could be the subject, it could be a focus of the fulton county probe here in georgia. so this has gotten a lot of attention. and now it has gotten federal attention as well. >> anthony, we've talked a lot about the interplay of all of these cases. the pieces of information that
recommending several indictments. the heat is turning up as well as says she is looking to indict within the next few weeks. instead of mounting a defense, trump is playing the role of motor, taking to truth social today saying that quote, getting indicted and arrested by sicknick government thugs is my great honor. it's my honor because i'm doing it for you, i'm doing it for our country. back with me now, jill wine-banks, greg bluestein, anthony coley,. we're hearing atlanta long forsman getting ready for a potential indictment in the georgia probe in 2020. how soon could we see that come down? your thoughts? >> if that indictment could come within weeks, maybe mid august, we've been waiting for it for a very long time, but it seems like it is imminent in that sense. we've heard from willis saying that it would come before labor day, and she's already warned law enforcement officials and judges that it is on its way. it is coming, and even set the grand jury panels -- so one of them could be looking at right now -- getting geared up.
2024 as a presidential year. they're of course down ballot races having all over the country in 2024. as the person who has the on the ground view in georgia, your sense of how a variety of cases, specifically the fulton county case, is impacting the politics of georgia's 2024 elections? >> i've been watching how republicans in the ballot state like georgia are reacting to it, and we've seen one of two things. either staying silent on trump, trying to distance themselves from all his legal problems, or more prevalent lily, we're seeing a lot at attack on the justice department, because even republicans who oppose trump know that he's likely going to be -- and they're worried about getting rejected by the parties age. that's how strong his poll is still, even in states like georgia where he's been -- >> jill wine-banks, greg bluestein, well anthony coley, think you also much for getting us started. next, prosecuting the fake electors. arizona secretary of state adrian ran against and beat an
be using. >> i need to say that nbc has not yet matched that reporting on racketeering charges. you know anthony, as i was reading that statement from the former president on truth social, his twitter knock off, it just strikes me how dangerous that rhetoric is. and yes it is rhetoric that he uses over and over again. it clearly has the intention of muddying the waters, it has the intention of undermining law enforcement and federal agencies all across this country. and i don't ever want for that to become normal or for us to become desensitized to the language that he uses as someone who has worked inside doj just how alarming is it to you that he is trying to sell his supporters on this idea that the government is not looking at him for wrongdoing? but rather that the look and to him is somehow an attack on americans? >> this is absolutely alarming
