Wolfwalkers tells the story of English girl Robyn (voiced by Honor Kneafsey) and Irish girl Mebh (Eva Whittaker), one of the last two 'wolfwalkers'
A FILM made by a Newry-born man was up against some of the industry's finest at the Oscars last night.
Wolfwalkers, produced by Cartoon Saloon, was vying for the gold statuette in the Best Animated Feature Film category.
The Kilkenny-based studio was founded by Co Down man Tomm Moore along with two other friends he met at art college in Dublin in the late 1990s.
This is the fifth time Cartoon Saloon has been nominated for an Oscar.

Kilkenny's Cartoon Saloon are up for their fifth Oscar at tonight's Academy Awards and locally people are hoping that finally the studio will be given the coveted golden statuette it so obviously deserves.
Due to Covid-19 the nominees will attend a broadcast from Kilkenny and the rest of the crew will watch from a link at home.
Earlier this month the film, which is set in medieval Kilkenny, picked up an impressive five awards at the Annies ceremony. To date, Wolfwalkers, which is co-directed by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart has won 28 awards and has been lauded with lavish praise by critics across the globe.

Kilkenny's Cartoon Saloon have won an incredible five Annie Awards for their latest feature film, Wolfwalkers along with the sponsored prize for their work on the Greenpeace short film, There's A Monster in My Kitchen.
Wolfwalkers won Best Indie Feature, Direction, Production Design, Character Design and Voice Acting.
Directed by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart, Wolfwalkers is set in medieval Kilkenny and tells the story of Robyn Goodfellowe, a young apprentice hunter who journeys to Ireland with her father in a time of superstition and magic to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh, a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to transform into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh’s missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the Wolfwalkers and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.

Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate the entire creative team behind Irish film Wolfwalkers on winning five Annie Awards following last night’s online ceremony.
The Annie Awards are one of the world's most prestigious animation industry honours and Wolfwalkers was awarded the prize for Best Indie Film, Best Direction for Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart, Best Character Design, Best Production Design, and Best Voice Acting for the talented, young, Kildare actress Eva Whittaker for her wonderful performance as Mebh Óg MacTír.

Mamoru Hosoda, the Oscar-nominated director of “Mirai,” has attracted a prestigious international creative team for his anticipated music-filled film, “Belle,” whose first trailer is being unveiled by Studio Chizu. On top of revealing exclusive new images, the trailer also features the very first track of the film.
Mixing reality and fantasy, “Belle” follows Suzu, a 17-year-old high school student living in a rural village with her father. For years she has only been a shadow of herself. One day, she enters “U,” a virtual world of 5 billion members on the Internet. There, she is not Suzu anymore but Belle, a world-famous singer. She soon meets with a mysterious creature. Together, they embark on a journey of adventures, challenges and love, in their quest of becoming who they truly are.
