The government s surprise announcement that all emergency ordinances enacted under the state of emergency have been revoked came with a new twist yesterday.
While
de facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan said it had already been revoked, effective July 21, Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa claimed the revocation was still in the process .
Takiyuddin had also dodged queries by lawmakers, some of whom were shouting at him to answer a simple question: Did the King assent to annulling the emergency laws? ....

Attorney-general and Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum held a virtual consultation with representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs) yesterday.
The forum included members from the Fiji Council of Social Services, LifeFlight Fiji, Empower Pacific, femLINKpacific, Rainbow Pride, Asia Pacific Forum on Families International, Fiji Women’s Rights Movement, Citizens Constitutional Forum, Reproductive Health Association of Fiji, Foundation for the Education of Needy Children and Save the Children Fund.
According to a Fijian Government Facebook post, participants shared their views on the current challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and provided their recommendations for the upcoming 2021-2022 National Budget scheduled to be delivered on Jul ....

Biden administration moves to reverse Trump-era abortion referral rule
The Department of Health and Human Services unveiled the proposed regulation to reverse the Trump administration’s rule blocking providers in the Title X family planning program from referring patients for the procedure.
“Those rules have undermined the public health of the population the program is meant to serve,” HHS said in a statement.
Federal courts have been split on the Trump administration’s regulation, which critics call a “gag rule” and proponents say better aligns with Title X program requirements that bar the funds from being used for abortion. The Hyde Amendment still bars federal funding from covering abortions, except in cases of rape, incest or when the woman’s life is at risk. ....
