Navies of the 'Quad' can swing together to tackle any threat in Indo-Pacific: Top Indian & US commanders | India News

PM Modi, US President Biden, Australia PM Morrison and Japan PM Suga - leaders of the four Quad nations.
NEW DELHI: Top Indian and American military commanders on Wednesday said navies of the “Quad” countries could seamlessly swing into action for a joint military operation if the need arises to tackle a threat and ensure a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
The messaging about the Quad grouping of India, the US, Japan and Australia against a belligerent and expansionist China in the Indo-Pacific was clear. It also came a day after the Chinese official media gleefully latched onto the recent passage by a US warship through India’s EEZ without prior consent to ask New Delhi to re-evaluate its ties with Washington and shed its “illusions”.

Report: India's AIP System Test A Step Towards Countering Chinese PLA Navy's Ongoing Expansion

An Scorpene-class submarine of the Indian Navy.
The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully conducted the final test of the land-based prototype of the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system in Mumbai on Monday (9 March).
The AIP system will be retrofitted into the Kalvari class submarines, whose third model INS Karanj is set to be commissioned on Wednesday.
This new AIP system means the diesel submarines can stay underwater for longer periods of time and become more silent than nuclear submarines.
This latest development is seen as India’s conscious efforts to build capabilities and counter the emergence of the Chinese naval force.

Rationale behind India developing fleet of aircraft carriers

Synopsis
Robert Farley, writing for The National Interest, wrote that the rationale behind India's carrier force development has three reasons.
With one large carrier in service and another on the way, India has become one of the world's pre-eminent naval aviation powers.
At present, India has two aircraft carriers - INS Vikramaditya and INS Viraat, while it is planning to develop the third - INS Vishaal by 2030. The question arises why is India developing a fleet of aircraft carriers?
Robert Farley, writing for The National Interest - American bimonthly international affairs magazine, wrote that the rationale behind India's carrier force development has three reasons.

History Made: Meet India's Vikrant Aircraft Carrier | The National Interest

The carrier saw combat and served India well.
Key point: This carrier no longer serves New Delhi. However, it did fight in combat and helped India win a war with Pakistan.
In the wake of the commissioning of China’s second aircraft carrier, it’s worth remembering that the People’s Republic of China is actually only the third Asian state to operate its own aircraft carrier. The first was Japan, which after a long hiatus following its World War II misadventures, is only just getting back into carrier operations.
