How consultants will sway the outcome of the Epic v. Apple case

May 24, 2021
After lawyers for Epic Games and Apple wrap up their closing arguments in a high-profile antitrust lawsuit today (May 24), US district judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers will spend the next few months deliberating on her verdict. The outcome of the case will, in large part, hinge on one key question: How big is the market in which Apple’s app store operates?
In the case, Epic is attempting to prove Apple has a monopoly over the market for apps—like Epic’s hit game Fortnite—and that Apple is using its monopoly power to take an unfairly large cut of the profits developers make through in-app purchases.

We are going to Geneva with the aim to get a positive outcome, Cyprus Foreign Minister, Nikos Christodoulides said on Sunday, referring to the informal meeting on the Cyprus problem that will take place in Geneva on April 27-29. He noted that Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and the negotiating team will go to Switzerland, with various concrete scenarios at hand, which are not, in any case, outside the framework of the bizonal, bicommunal federation.
In statements in Paphos, Christodoulides noted that a meeting of the National Council will take place, in view of the informal meeting in Geneva,...

AGEWISE: Understanding labels on food packaging

— KB
Answer: Understanding food labels can go a long way in managing your diet. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Nutritional Facts labels were updated in 2020 to help people better recognize healthier choices.
The FDA required manufacturers with $10 million or more in annual sales to update their labels by Jan. 1, 2020, and those manufacturers with less than $10 million in annual food sales to update their labels by Jan. 21, 2021. Companies that produce single-ingredient sugars, such as honey and maple syrup and some cranberry products have until July 1, 2021, to make changes.
Scientific studies from the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, formerly known as the Institute of Medicine, played a big role in the label changes. Some vitamin information, such as vitamin D and potassium, were added because studies found Americans tend to be deficient in those nutrients. “Added sugars” is a new entry because these food choices increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. The FDA also removed some information from labels.

Fascinating Infograph Shows What Rain Is Like Elsewhere in The Solar System

Fascinating Infograph Shows What Rain Is Like Elsewhere in The Solar System

The type of material falling out of the sky is almost as varied as the planets themselves. New research from a team led by Kaitlyn Loftus at Harvard found a similarity for all of the liquid materials that constitute rain throughout the Solar System – all of the drops, no matter the material, are roughly the same size.
There are two main causes for this: small raindrops evaporate while large raindrops separate into smaller ones. To determine what those levels might be, the scientists looked at what size droplets could be on planets similar to Earth, such as Mars or Venus.

Ask Amy: New grandmother pushes family's boundaries | Lifestyles

Amy: My husband and I recently welcomed our first child.
On my side of the extended family, our baby son (“Samuel”) is the fifth grandchild, but on my husband’s side, he is the first.
I am trying to be sensitive to the excitement and extra attention a first grandchild receives.
My mother-in-law, “Joan,” has been to our house for a visit of a week’s duration each month since Sam’s birth. Each time she visits, I am more hesitant to welcome her back.
Joan is blatantly disregarding the parenting strategy my husband and I have adopted in favor of her own techniques. She does this against our specific instructions and without discussion.
