Black Trans Liberation: An Evening at the Stonewall Protests in New York City
A man sits outside the Stonewall Inn before the evening rush in New York City. On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, sparking an uprising that was largely led by LGBTQ+ people of color and celebrated black trans activist, Marsha P. Johnson. The West Village gay bar is nationally recognized heritage site of LGBTQ+ activism, and still hosts a colorful nightlife scene. (Iman Floyd-Carroll/Peninsula Press)

CHESHIRE — Like countless teenagers, Cheshire High School junior Juliette Markman recalls going through a hard time last spring. Along with not being able to see her friends due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, she was disturbed by the images she saw on television and the Internet.

Up Close And Personal: Alexandra Leese On Exploring The Female Gaze, Identity And Intimacy

In a digital age of scrolling, pairing and ghosting, surely identity has never been so complicated, right? Possibly. But photographer Alexandra Leese is proving that we might be seriously underestimating the role that gender stigmatisation plays both in human relationship and image-making itself. Born in Hong Kong to a Chinese mother and an English father, she discovered photography during her foundation year at Chelsea College of Art and Design, followed by a BA in fashion photography at the London College of Fashion.
Drenched with soul-filled landscapes (I kid you not), it has been a year of reflection for Leese, whose visual grounding is stamped across identity and intimacy. “It’s been the year of introspection, which can be a difficult process,” she freely admits, “but it allowed me to gain a better sense of who I am and therefore what work I want to be creating. It also showed me that if you have the desire to create, you can always find a way.” As a documentary photographer, Leese gels together a plethora of influences served in a sophisticated manner. Her work speaks of “human conditions,” which, she believes, “are what make us who we are, what fears, desires and beliefs do we have and why, what set us apart but more importantly what bring us together.” As Leese draws on personal experience, she reflects on how her heritage has enriched her relationship with creativity whilst capturing the energy of her culture. “I believe that growing up in a multicultural household and city allowed me to view the world from different perspectives early on,” she explains. “My creative heroes change depending on where I am in my life, so it’s hard to narrow down, as I admire so many artists for different reasons. As I have been working on a project surrounding the female gaze, I have been looking at many incredible female artists. Deana Lawson, Viviane Sassen, Rineke Dijkstra, Ana Mendieta to name a few.”

Watch Peppermint Lavish Aquaria With Praise for 2020 Activism

Watch Peppermint Lavish Aquaria With Praise for 2020 Activism
[She s] 100 percent willing to jump in and challenge authority and speak truth to power, speaking truth to one of the most ultimate powers even within the Drag Race franchise.
We have come a long way since Miss Aquaria won
RuPaul s Drag Race. It s been two years and at least five seasons of the show (in its various permutations). The star has underscored herself as a look queen in the time since, and is currently the sole drag performer signed to IMG Models, and even has kept up the laughs with her recurring Melania Trump shtick. She s also continued to put on show-stopping performances. But there has definitely been some development in the queen.
