A new survey released by the ABA on Thursday found stark divisions based on age and race when it comes to believing that there are racial biases built into the rules, procedures and practices of the justice system.
While 45% of white respondents said they agree or strongly agree with that statement, 80% of Black respondents and 63% of Hispanic respondents agreed or strongly agreed. ....

ABA survey finds differences in support for pandemic requirements, trust in justice system

WASHINGTON, April 29, 2021 — Most Black and Hispanic people and young adults believe the U.S. justice system exhibits racial bias, but fewer white people and older people do, according to a new American Bar Association survey.  
The survey also found strong public support for legally permitting employers to require employees to wear masks at work and refusing service to customers who don’t follow mask requirements. But a majority does not support legally permitting employers to require their employees get COVID-19 vaccinations.
Those results are from the ABA 2021 Survey of Civic Literacy — the third annual survey conducted as part of Law Day, celebrated each year on May 1. The theme this year is “Advancing the Rule of Law Now.” ....

What do we call the first 10 amendments to the Constitution? How many voting members are there in the US Congress? Name at least three rights guaranteed every citizen of this country. Finally, what day was the Declaration of Independence adopted?
 
These are among the questions people who seek to become US citizens are asked, but the Annenberg Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania reported that only 51 percent of Americans could identify all branches of government, only 54 percent understood what happened if the Supreme Court had a 5-4 verdict and only 19 percent could name a single 1stAmendment right. ....
