'Little Nellie Kelly': A Great Day for the Irish

‘Little Nellie Kelly’: A Great Day for the Irish
St. Patrick’s Day, and the whole month of March by extension, is dedicated to celebrating all things Irish. However, many complain that American celebrations of “St. Paddy’s” Day are primarily cheap commercialism, ignoring Ireland’s traditional, genuine culture. Even “Plastic Paddy” celebrations, though, are few in 2021. After claiming St. Patrick’s Day as its first canceled event, the ongoing pandemic is dampening the popular March holiday for the second year. New York City’s famous St. Patrick’s Day parade was canceled in 2020, and the 260th year will be virtual on this 17th.

Where to begin with John Ford

Why this might not seem so easy
Asked for a list of his favourite filmmakers, Orson Welles once replied, “I prefer the old masters, by which I mean John Ford, John Ford and John Ford… He’s a poet and a comedian. With Ford at his best you get a sense of what the earth is made of.”
Born on 1 February 1894, in the dying days of the old west he’d soon become synonymous with chronicling on screen, Ford was the pre-eminent popular artist of 20th-century American cinema, with a career that ranged from the silent era of the mid-1910s through to his final masterpiece, 7 Women, in 1966.

The Best Free Movies on Peacock, Streaming Now

Peacock might have an unassuming name compared to the beefy energy drink title that is HBO Max or the clear branding of Amazon, but the NBCUniversal streamer isn’t slouching with its offerings. The quality of films in its vast library are by and large quite good (that’s what happens when a studio starts its own streaming service), with the added bonus that it has a free, ad-supported tier—which is even better than the likes of Hulu, which still charges a monthly fee in addition to running commercials. And its free TV isn’t bad either.
Hiding behind the paywall (or the week-long trial subscription, if you want to binge some movies) are collections including animated classics—like

Timeless Christmas Classics

Timeless Christmas Classics

A Star In the Night won the 1945 Academy Award for Best Action Short Subject film (21:25). This appropriately named little masterpiece has a stellar cast of some of the finest character actors of the day.
Beyond Tomorrow (1940) is another enduring Christmas classic starring veteran character actors Harry Carey, Charles Winninger, C. Aubrey Smith, and Maria Ouspenskaya. Have a box of Kleenex on hand.
While there have been numerous cinematic adaptations of Charles Dicken’s famous novella,
A Christmas Carol, I believe that this 1951 film above featuring the incomparable Alastair Sim is the best executed and memorable.
