When Bellinger was a Rookie in 2017, he had over 17 HR’s before the All-Star break. The Dodgers had a road trip to Arizona and Cody is from Scottsdale. All his Family, friends, High School buddies came out to see him play during his amazing Rookie hot streak. What did Roberts do? HE BENCHED HIM FOR ALL 3 GAMES! Ostensibly so the 22 Year old kid could get some REST. From PLAYING BASEBALL? What did Roberts do next? He took the day off and went to his own Son’s High School Graduation. A Day off to go to your kid’s Graduation? Really? We lost that game, too. The 3 hole has always been the "power hitter" place in the line-up, Babe Ruth, Stan Musial, Ted Williams, etc. Cody never ONCE got to bat 3rd. Why? When you start the same 7 guys in the same 7 positions, day in and day out, they gain CONFIDENCE. When you pinch hit Pujols for Beatty in the 6th Inning, you show him no confidence. Then, in the bottom of the 9th, with bases loaded and only 1 out, there’s Pujols, ready to make contact. Instead, he was already on the bench. WHY did Joe Kelly come out last night after retiring 3 batters in order? Because Jansen needs redemption? Or to be traded? Why does Roberts put Pitchers in the game on the SAME DAY they are brought up? These kids wake up in the morning playing Triple A ball, and Roberts brings them into the game that night. We got the Killer BEE’s, yet Roberts won’t play them together, Beatty, Belli and Betts, with Buehler and Barnes to back it up. When a guy is in a groove and on fire, you let him play, you don’t give him a day off. A day off for a 25 year old kid from playing Baseball? What does he do, go have a beer with friends and maybe… play some Baseball to relax? How many days off did Cal Ripken need? Steve Garvey played more than 1,000 games without a day off. How many COMPLETE GAMES do the Pitchers have this year? NONE? PITCH COUNT, you say? The game BELONGS to the starting Pitcher, it’s HIS game to win or lose. You don’t take the ball out of Walker’s hands in the 8th because he gave up ONE hit with 2 outs and threw 99 pitches and he’s WINNING! Unless you’re Roberts. Hey Dave, it’s the PITCHERS game, not YOURS! PITCH COUNT? Here’s one for ya, NOLAN RYAN once threw a complete game, going 13 innings and eventually losing the game, unfortunately. His PITCH COUNT? 241. That’s right, you read correctly, TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY ONE Pitches in ONE game!! Dave Roberts could not manage a Lemonade stand competently. Next game, when he trots out onto the field in the 6th Inning, notice the look of absolute DISGUST on the Pitchers face. Even Vesia, who was on fire last night, could not believe he was being taken out of the game. For no reason at all. Remember Joc Peterson? Dave said he can’t hit a Lefty, so he never played him against Lefty’s, rather than get in there and IMPROVE himself. Platooning, days off, relievers inserted automatically after 6 Innings is ALL Little League nonsense. The guy who NEEDS the days off is DAVE ROBERTS. ALL OF THEM. Sure, he was fast when he played for Boston. But now? Go away, go far, far away. And somebody pick up the phone and call Mike Scioscia.

It’s not just that the team scored 20 runs, it’s how they did it. Through six innings this was a rather ordinary game. Sammy Sosa and ex-Dodger Todd Hundley had homered off Darren Dreifort and the Cubs had a 4-1 lead.

Colorado Rockies News: The evolution of Jon Gray in 2021

Good, bad, good, bad...great? That’s the story of Jon Gray since 2017. The hurler has been well known by Colorado Rockies fans for his inconsistent career despite having some of the better physical tools among starting pitchers in the league. The valleys that come with his hills were quite evident in 2020 as he stumbled to a 6.69 ERA in eight starts in the truncated campaign. Over 39 innings, he was touched up to the tune of 10.4 H/9 while posting a career low 12.6% strikeout rate which resulted in a K/9 of just 5.1, easily the lowest of his career. His poor numbers came in tandem with a decrease in velocity and come September he was shut down with shoulder inflammation.

Jeff Bridich resigns as Rockies GM, Greg Feasel named club president

It was announced Monday morning that both Bridich and the club have “mutually agreed” to part ways:

Bridich had been affiliated with the Rockies since 2004, rising to senior director of baseball operations in 2006 and eventually senior director of player development in 2011. When former GM Dan O’Dowd stepped down after the 2014 season, it was Bridich, appointed by team owner Dick Monfort, to take over the reigns as the new general manager.
Something has boiled over. We do not currently know the motives behind Bridich’s departure, but an April exodus suggests a rift that was insurmountable to last through the 2021 season. The GM released this statement:

The Rockies are a weird franchise. Time and time again we see them make baffling moves and decisions that seem to defy all logic. If you tell them to zig, more than likely they are going to zag. It’s part of the experience as a fan and sometimes makes them somewhat endearing. The Rockies also have a bizarre method of signing aging free agents, especially when it comes to pitchers.
Just this past week, it was reported that the Rockies signed veteran pitchers Ivan Nova and Chris Rusin to minor league deals to build out pitching depth in the organization. One day prior to Opening Day they signed Jhoulys Chacín to the roster to fill in the bullpen. We have also seen them sign veteran pitchers like Roy Oswalt who don’t quite pan out as the team hoped. But perhaps the weirdest signing the Rockies have made was that of Jamie Moyer in 2012.
