Zambia's water-food-energy-health nexus to address the climate crisis – Zambia: News Diggers!

William Chilufya Country Engagement Manager Voices for Climate Action Hivos Southern Africa
In the recent past, climate change has drastically reduced precipitation and raised temperatures in Zambia. This has led to a reduced agricultural productivity of about 16%, slowing down the country’s economic growth, according to the Ministry of Lands and Natural resources.
Worryingly, Zambia is experiencing both climate extremes at the same time. While farmers in the South-Western parts of the country are anxious about the rainfall pattern that has been erratic so far, their counterparts in the North-East are battling flash floods.

INTERVIEW 'The government does not want us to know the truth'

At that time almost two-and-a-half years had passed since the Dutch Syrian scandal began to unfold.
According to revelations made by Dutch media, financial and material support had been given to war criminals and jihadist groups in so-called opposition-controlled areas in Syria.
In the parliamentary debate, Sadet Karabulut asked whether it was true that Rutte and his government had tried to stop a motion for an independent inquiry into the Netherlands’ support for opposition groups in Syria.
“Yes, of course … We have advised to vote against the motion,” Rutte replied, according to the protocol of the debate.
An investigation would be a threat to the Syrians in the opposition and might create tensions between the Netherlands and its allies, he said.

Nigerian Shell employees orchestrated oil spills for own profit-Dutch TV

3 Min Read
AMSTERDAM, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Employees at Royal Dutch Shell’s Nigerian joint venture orchestrated damage to oil pipelines to profit from the money spent on clean-up operations, Dutch investigative TV programme Zembla reported on Thursday.
Employees of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) recruited local youth to sabotage the pipelines and then hired them back as workers to clean up the mess, the report said, citing research by Dutch environmental group Milieudefensie.
Shell’s SPDC said it investigates all credible reports of misconduct and takes action where needed.
“As of now, we are not aware of any staff or contractor having been involved in acts causing oil spills in the Niger Delta”, it said in a reaction sent to Reuters via Shell’s Dutch head office.

According to a statement by the Dutch Foreign Ministry, the travel ban will remain in place until Jan. 1.
“Over the next few days, together with other EU member states, it [Netherlands] will explore the scope for further limiting the risk of the new strain of the virus being brought over from the UK,” it said.
It said that “sampling of a case in the Netherlands in early December revealed the same virus strain as that observed in the UK.”

Evasions and Cover-ups by Western Governments over Funding of Terrorist Groups in Syria Start to Unravel

by Vanessa Beeley / December 13th, 2020
People walk past damaged buildings at the Yarmouk refugee camp on the southern outskirts of Damascus © ReutersEvidence of Dutch and British funding for extremists who’ve beheaded children & carried out ethnic-cleansing grows by the day. Yet most of the mainstream media – including the BBC – still try to keep this truth silent.
Recently, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte effectively blocked a Parliamentary motion to allow an external independent investigation of Dutch government funding of terrorist groups in Syria.
Rutte initially tried to deny his involvement in the burial of the investigation but tenacious questioning from journalists forced him to admit his personal interference. According to Rutte, such an investigation could result in “tensions with our allies […] the lives of former members of opposition groups could be put at stake.”
