George Floyd’s murder by then Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin served as a wake-up call for many. It sparked months of civil unrest and promises by companies and lawmakers to dismantle anti-Blackness.
As Black community leaders look back over the past year, they say that not enough has changed. While they expressed hope that public perception of racism has shifted, they wondered if it would survive for the long haul.

The city’s timing couldn’t have been worse. Just as the protests against police violence were cresting last summer, lawyers and elected officials in Seattle City Hall argued to a judge that most federal oversight of the city’s police department should be lifted.
The request was the culmination of nearly a decade under the eye of the federal court. But to the protesters on the streets, it looked like the city was attempting to shed police accountability at a time when thousands of people were demanding more. ....

Tatiana Luz first ingested mushrooms containing psilocybin in 2018. It was life-changing.
