Girls Preparatory School has long supported and believed in the long-term value of athletics for girls and women. Girls who participate in athletics are known to be more successful in the classroom, in the workforce, and in life, said officials. So, on this 35th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day, GPS celebrates and acknowledges its athletes and coaches for their dedication to female athletics.
“The athletic program at GPS provides a remarkable opportunity for girls to play a wide variety of sports at a high level,” says Director of Athletics Jay Watts. “Our teams are incredibly successful when competing against other teams around the region, but what makes our offerings even more unique is that our girls are able to learn and grow, both physically and socially, in a space designed especially for them. Dana (Dobransky) Duckworth - Gymnastics
An eight-time All-American and two-time NCAA balance beam champion, Duckworth, is a name in Alabama gymnastics. She won the NCAA Championship in 1991 and the Coleman Coliseum balance beam record (10.00) in 1993. Duckworth has been on the coaching staff full time with the team since 2008 and was previously a volunteer coach of nine years. She became the head coach in July 2014 and is the first in league histo ....

President Joe Biden s nominee to lead the Department of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona, said he will work to protect a new executive order that mandates biological males be allowed to compete against biological females. Specifically, he will work to make sure the practice is allowed in high schools, where female athletes are often stripped of scholarship opportunities and athletic titles after being forced to compete against biological men.
