After Mariachi's Dine-In moved to a bigger location, chef Angel Fuentes decided to stay put and start his own restaurant, Guapo Taco, influenced by flavors from his home, Monterrey, Mexico. The lamb birria is the star of the show.
Fort Worth Weekly By Edward Brown Chef Angel Fuentes said the secret to his mild-flavored lamb is “slow-cooking.” Photo by Edward Brown. At Guapo Taco recently, Chef Angel Fuentes described the Mexico street taco-based concept he developed over the past few months but did not plan to put into action. It’s not uncommon for chefs to daydream about creating new menus, he said. Guapo Taco, 301 S Sylvania Av, FW. 682-966-9645. 11am-9pm Tue-Sat. All major credit cards accepted. Located inside the former home of Mariachi’s Dine-in, Guapo Taco would have remained a passing dream if Fuentes and Mariachi’s Dine-in owner Ashley Miller hadn’t recently parted ways just as Mariachi’s was about to move from its original home in a Riverside gas station to a new brick-and-mortar location at 5724 Locke Ave. that is now open. Without going into specifics about the business breakup, Fuentes said he and Miller are both in a good place, personally and professionally.

/ The news that Camden Mayor Frank Moran was stepping down eight months before the end of his term — and the quick anointing of a successor by the South Jersey Democratic Party machine — stunned many members of a community that is fairly shock-proof. Resident and activist Ronsha Dickerson read about it in a newspaper article. “That’s huge. Most cities that have any sense, a mayor would address their residents or their constituents and say, ‘I’m holding a press conference. I have a major announcement to make,’” she said. Dickerson said she immediately went into organizing mode, contacting other activists to strategize and select candidates for the mayoral and council races.

Presented by Uber Driver Stories Good Monday morning! It appears that Democrats realize that not allowing police to give written notice to parents the first time they catch their kids smoking weed or drinking alcohol is a potent issue Republicans could use against them this fall. A Democratic-backed bill to clarify that cops can inform parents was introduced last week and appears to be on the fast track. It’s a clean-up bill of the last marijuana clean-up bill. The first clean up bill was a way to get Gov. Phil Murphy to sign weed legalization while assuaging concerns from the Legislative Black Caucus. But now the leader of that caucus, Sen. Ron Rice, is OK with allowing parental notification. So how did the original clean-up bill end up including language that barred parental notification? I don’t know.
