ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Santa Fe-based Parting Stone’s novel technology to turn cremated ashes into beautiful, solidified remains is rapidly gaining ground in the “deathcare” industry.
The company, which launched in fall 2019, offers people a better way to connect with departed loved ones, turning ashes into smooth, polished memorial stones that can be held, shared or displayed, said Parting Stone founder and CEO Justin Crowe.
The company now partners with 340 funeral homes across the country to offer solidification services to families who plan to create remains. That’s up from about 200 funeral partners last fall.

A startup company that has developed an alternative to ashes after cremation.
Parting Stone, develops solidified remains which provides families with an alternative to receiving ashes following human or pet cremation.
The company states in the press release that it has experienced growth during the pandemic and has provided a service to families wanting to memorialize departed loved ones during a time where there were restrictions on gatherings. Parting Stone estimates that solidified remains will capture more than 50% of the cremated remains market share by 2030. According to Parting Stone, an average person will yield a collection of 40 to 60 “stones” that range from the size of a thumbnail or up to the size of one’s palm. For each cup of cremated remains, the company will return one cup of solidified remains. Solidification for human remains costs $595 while dogs cost $295 and cats cost $245. Interested in more?

New Mexico Students Head Back to School

COVID-19 by the numbers
New Mexico health officials did not release COVID-19 data over Easter weekend. On Friday, the state reported 218 new cases and seven more deaths; Santa Fe County had eight new cases and one additional death. As of then, New Mexico had 192,152 cases all told, with 173,981 designated as recovered.
The state also did not update its vaccine dashboard over the weekend, leaving the percentage of New Mexicans partially vaccinated at 47.5%, with 30.1% fully inoculated.
Forbes magazine on Friday highlighted New Mexico as the first state to provide vaccines for more than half its adult residents, while NBC News described us as the state closest to achieving herd immunity.

A Phoenix Mortuary Where You Can Get Your Loved Ones Turned Into Rocks

But now there's a third: stones.
Regency Mortuary in Sun City is one of only two local partners of Parting Stone, a Santa Fe, New Mexico, company that takes the ashes of deceased people and pets and transforms them into smooth stones. (The other is Accu-Care Cremation & Funerals in Phoenix.)
“I don’t think that saying it’s revolutionary oversells it at all,” says Regency's funeral director, John Perkes. “I was literally raised in a funeral home — I started working when I was 12 — and I’ve never seen anything that can change the experience for families as much as solidified remains.”
