Beach Volleyball has Two Pairs named Volleyball Magazine All-Americans

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State beach volleyball’s pairing of Torrey Van Winden and Keara Rutz were named Volleyball Magazine First Team All-American and Alaina Chacon and Maddie Anderson were named Second Team All-Americans. Torrey Van Winden and Keara Rutz combined to go 31-7 together in 2021 and were named AVCA Second Team All-Americans earlier this month. The 31 wins in one season are the sixth most wins for a pair in a season in FSU history, it also moved them into 10th all-time for most wins in a career as a pair at Florida State. The duo went 27-3 on court two and 4-4 on court one. They were named the AVCA National Pair of the Week and the CCSA Pair of the Week on March 9 after going 5-0 that weekend with ranked wins over No. 1 LSU, No. 11 FAU and No. 19 Georgia State, all on court two. Rutz and Van Winden started off the season by winning 16 straight matches on court two, including top-10 wins over No. 8 LMU, No. 6 Cal Poly, No. 1 LSU, No. 10 TCU and No. 3 LSU. Throughout t ....

Beach Volleyball has Four AVCA All-Americans
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State beach volleyball’s Alaina Chacon, Molly McBain, Keara Rutz and Torrey Van Winden were named AVCA Second-Team All-Americans on Wednesday.
Alaina Chacon and Molly McBain played 29 matches together during the 2021 season, finishing with a 19-10 record and as the fourth winningest pair on the Seminoles this season. Their 19 wins together gave them 32 wins as a pair of the last two years, good for the eighth-most wins as a pair in program history. Chacon and McBain earned 17 wins on court one and two wins on court two.
Together, Molly and Alaina earned 11 wins against ranked team, including wins over No. 8 LMU, No. 6 Cal Poly, No. 10 TCU and No. 1 USC on court one. ....

Beach Volleyball’s Season Comes to an End With a Loss to LSU
GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Florida State beach volleyball team (33-6) had their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon after losing 3-1 to LSU (27-8) in the second round of the loser’s bracket.
“The seniors on this team have been amazing,” said head coach Brooke Niles. “Molly becoming the winningest dual match player in school history, Torrey for coming to Tallahassee and taking a chance on our program and all of the other ones. They have pushed us every day and set a standard for our program that has helped create our culture. We have so many hard workers that we are proud to have worn our jersey.” ....

Beach Begins Play in Gulf Shores Against Stanford
GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Florida State beach volleyball team begins play at the NCAA Tournament in Gulf Shores on Friday, May 7 at 1 pm ET against Stanford. The Seminoles enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed after going 32-4 in the regular season and earning their fifth straight CCSA title.
The meeting will be the first between Stanford and Florida State in beach volleyball. Stanford’s assistant coach is former Florida State assistant coach Angela Rock.
Florida State is the only program in the nation to make an appearance in every national championship event, starting with the AVCA Championship (2012-15) and now the NCAA Championship (2016-19, 2021). FSU finished as the national runner-up in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The Noles also posted back-to-back top-three finishes in 2012 and 2013. ....

Beach Volleyball Has Three Pairs Earn AVCA Top Flight Honors
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is pleased to reveal the third annual class of AVCA Top Flight award winners. Introduced in 2018, this awards program is designed to recognize excellence in collegiate beach volleyball from all over the country and across all flights.
The Seminole pairings of Keara Rutz/Torrey Van Winden, Maddie Anderson/Sara Putt and Jenna Johnson/Kate Privett all earned recognition from the AVCA on Tuesday.
In order for a pair to be eligible for the award, two athletes must compete in at least 15 matches together and at a specific flight number. Should that pair win at least 75% of their matches – regardless of the overall result of the dual – those athletes will achieve “Top Flight” status. ....
