san mateo police a burglary suspect was arrested after reportedly getting caught red-handed. he was arrested yesterday morning after the police got a tip that a crime was in progress at the apartment complex at north camino royale. he was arrested while walking out of an apartment with his arms filled with stolen electronics. he was booked in the county jail on charges of burglary and drug possession. the san ramon valley education department said 92% of the members voted in favor of authorizing a strike. teachers say they are fighting to make sure that students have the best support, class sizes and educators. the teachers are working under an expired contract, negotiating for a three-year contract. the district said they remain committed to negotiating for the responsible contract. the san francisco port commission will meet on the future of the protected bike lanes along the embarcadero. muni will give us an update and we are already in san francisco with the details lanes to make it safer for the cyclist. they have a ton half-mile straight from south beach park to the oracle park to pier 39. the agency talked about making the changes for years but the embarcadero enhancement project has two projects already in the works. this is at pier 35 between kearny street and bay street, and in selma between mission and folsom street to be expected to be finished this summer. the agency will ask at the port commission for feedback on that project and a possibility of building more along the to an half-mile straight of the embarcadero. the agencies that oversee the in santa clare county. it used to take over three months. we have allie rasmus explaining how they are able to do this. >> reporter: county leaders made it a priority a few years back to clear the nearly 300 rape kits backed up and the county. they allocated $600,000 in the county budget, hire more people to do it. two years later they say the efforts paid off and no longer a backlog of sexual assault or rape kits to test in santa clare county. it takes about 16 days now to process the evidence in a sexual assault or rape investigation. a used to take about 94 days. when someone reports being a victim of rape or sexual assault they go through the physical exam with dna and other evidence collected. and a clare county has lab technicians that they are with that money allocated a couple of years ago. they focus only on testing evidence in sexual assault and rape cases which is how they can process the kits quickly to clear the backlog. just last sunday a gun going from san jose reported being sexually assaulted. the crime lab process the evidence quickly and within 48 hours they had a match. the police made an arrest. county leaders will talk about the progress they settlement is reached with the parents of a high school student that drown in 2018 during swim class at the san ramon valley unified school district. in may 2018, 15-year-old benjamin curry and 56 swimming class came in. his parents said the lack of supervision in the class caused the death of their son. the wrongful-death lawsuit is due to go to trial next week. it is 7:35. the community start this fall, opening date of 2024. the students at berkeley high school walked out of class yesterday protesting a dangerous culture of sexual harassment at the school. they say harassments an assault are happening on and off the campus and that the administration is not doing enough to deal with it. this follows a lawsuit against the district, served on friday about an alleged incident that happened on campus >> we need training for every grade and for every teacher, and we need a clear process that everyone knows about. this is one that survivors understand and can rely upon them court to celebrate the raptors nba championship. strickland said this caused him mental, emotional and physical pain and suffering. the lawsuit seeks a minimum of $75,000. last october the alameda county da's office decided not to file criminal charges against masai ujiri. the baseball pitcher directly affected by the cheating scandal is baseball is suing the houston astros. mike bolsinger pitched in the majors against the astros in august 2017 plane for the blue jays. the 12 of 29 pitches he threw were preceded by banks in a trashcan. it was a signal that the astros were using to alert they initially found she was not infected with the coronavirus. she was on one of the flies that landed at the miramar and the first test was negative. doctors discharged turn center back to assaulting a 16-year-old girl. 34-year-old brian watkins of fremont has been charged with three felony accounts following his arrest last month. his alleged victim was a minor at the time of the alleged abuse and is 18 years old. she said she met watkins at a condo complex in 2017. watkins is due back in court next month. the director of public works resigned amid federal fraud investigation. the resignation of mohammed nuru comes one month after he and nick bovis were arrested attempting to bribe a san francisco airport commissioner to secure the restaurant space at sfo. prosecutors say u.s.. one american died in china from the illness. the santa clara supervisors said they made progress in investigating sexual assault cases in the county. they cleared the back log of the so-called rape kits from several years ago in the lab. we have allie rasmus live to explain how they did it. >> reporter: two years ago santa clara county at a backlog of 300 rape kits untested sitting on the shelves. the county made it a priority to tackle the problem. they set aside $600,000 in the county budget and hired people to do the task. they say the efforts and resources paid off. there's no longer a backlog of rape kits that need testing in santa clara county. now it takes an average of 16 days to process the evidence in the rape or sexual assault investigation. a few years ago it would take three months to test a kit . when summer reports rape or sexual assault they go through a physical exam at a medical facility collecting dna and other evidence. santa clara county has a team of lab technician state hired with that money and they focus only on testing evidence in the sexual assault and rape cases. that is how they process these cases so quickly. the santa clara county said last monday a woman was sexually assaulted and they tested and within 48 hours they had a match and arrested the suspect. county leaders would talk about the progress they made and plans to continue that at the news conference at the santa clara county office building later this morning. allie rasmus, ktvu mornings on 2. the settlement is reached with the parents of the danville high school student that died at a swim class at the pool when he, curry and 56 other students were treading water, for almost 4 minutes when he went underwater. the swim teacher was on his phone he distracted and he was not found until the next swimming class. the wrongful death lawsuit against the district and teacher, aaron becker, set to go to trial next week. protesting the berkeley proposal to build student and low-income housing at the park. the group of protesters showed up at the student union and to speak out. the school owns the peoples park and plan on building housing to accommodate up to 1200 beds. they said they will also provide 100 apartment units for the low income students on that side. >> that will make a big difference in the housing supply at berkeley. >> we need new housing for students and i see that but to build it on this historical landmark >> they commemorated the 50th anniversary of bloodied thursday, protesting the uc berkeley plan to turn the park into the athletic field became violent. they say this park should be preserved. they have more protest plan and they plan on starting construction next fall with opening date of 2024. students walking out calling it a dangerous culture of sexual harassment at the school saying it occurs on and off campus. they say the administration is not doing enough to address it. the district was served the lawsuit on friday regarding an alleged incident that happened on campus. >> we need trading for every grade and for every teacher. we need a clear process that everyone knows of and that the survivors understand, and can rely on from the administration on what they will do and what they can do. >> the district will not provide details on the lawsuit or say whether anyone involved in the lawsuit is
