further to the south and west near fredericksburg there is a little blip showing up there as well which look lake a spot of heavy rain. so we're keeping our eyes on all of this in the district right now. nothing in the way of any rain showers but just to the north, that is where we're seeing the precipitation. 54degrees at reagan national airport. dulles at 5 # degree. bwi marshall at 51 degrees. -- dulles at 53 degrees. all those purples, that is the big storms that came through the mid-atlantic renale object yesterday afternoon and last night dropping hail, through the mid-atlantic region yesterday afternoon and night night dropping hail. i don't expect to see as much severe weather today because i don't think the dynamics will be as favorable as they were yesterday. we will see showers and thunderstorms pop up across the area. here is why. first of all, similar to yesterday, warmer air coming in from the south. yesterday, we had that sunshine that really moved us into the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. it actually hit 80 at tull -- etween the two systems, an area of low pressure moves across. we other see showers and some afternoon thunderstorms develop. five-day forecast, today, high about 70 degrees. tomorrow, the unsettled weather continues at late through the first half of the day or so. highs in the mid 1r0 way few more showers possible. wednesday, we try out, mid-60s with a mix of sun and clouds. thursday, sunny, 70 degrees. that is for thursday, that will be just below average. i think the average high for thursday, 71 degrees. friday, 75 and a good amount of sunshine so not bad for the ending part of the week. >> that looks about perfect. >> today, kind of a dicey day. time now for ask the we are guys. it is the segment where tucker barnes and i put our big heads together to answer your most pressing questions weather- related or wise. today's question is from christine muncie. she wants to know the correct way to interpret the chance of rain we give in a forecast of the she writes does 60% mean 60% of the lynn listening area will receive rain or does it mean there is a 60% chance of rain. apparently christine and her husband completely dries agree -- disagree on the answer. what do you think? >> i think it is a 60% chance that somebody in our viewing area is going to see rain. >> i agree. >> you are pretty much right. as a weather forecaster, someone would has been doing this for many years, there is great misunderstanding. it means one thing in particular. i think the misunderstanding comes from when you -- if you look it up, if you go online and go to different places, there are all kind of answers out there. i went right to the national weather service. here it is. the chance of rain is based on a mathematical equation which itself is based on historical data, what happened previously when these same weather conditions existed. however, that is not what solely determines the chance of rain that you hear me or others talk about. the equation, i'm giving this for steve would like math, the equation states that the probability of precipitation is c, the confident level that precipitation will occur somewhere in the forecast area times a, the percent of the area that will receive measurable precipitation if it occurs. a 60% chance of rain does not mean this. it does not mean that it will rain 60% of the day. it does not mean that it will rain over 60% of the area. a 60% chance of rain simply means at any point during the forecast period and in the forecast area, there is a 60% chance it will rain. that is why we get specific. we say -- i say for example, today, there is a 70% chance of rain. that means in our forecast area, the mid-atlantic, washington-baltimore area, there is a 70% chance of rain. no
