east: but it's the number on the top line that will grab most pool's attention. it's the peak gust so far not mountains. we hit the north bay. but as far as where you live, look at the rest of the numbers. santa rosa hill 33-mile-an-hour gust within the last hour. and concord at 35. and san francisco hit 28. we are seeing similar numbers to that in the east bay for places like oakland though not as strong there and san jose seeing this at 14 miles per hour. as we look at the map as a whole, these are the current wind speeds. that's what the sustained number is. so it's 15 sustained in hayward. 13 in oakland. 6 in san jose. now the gusts as the winds pick up in intensity. ever so often, hayward hit 23. and concord at 37. and there's livermore at 3 # 2. all right. as you probably expect the wind advisory in effect doesn't expire until 11 a.m. on monday. but the worst of the winds will come through the afternoon for most of us. i am going to spotlight that in more detail in the complete forecast but there's one other thing i want to point out. it's not just a wind advisory for most lations look at area owinupin red. as you get on 08 and work through the delta, carquinez, that's where we have a high wind warning where we will see gusts to 60. anyone traveling on 80o the delta between now and 4:00 thissa this afternoon, expect dangerous winds to affect travel. fierce new years parade has grown to become the yarnlg largest in the country. businesses in chinaton say foot traffic is down because of the coronavirus scare, tonight the show went on before a big crowd. currently there, are no diagnosed cases of the virus in san francisco. . >> i know that they were concerned about people not coming. and i can see by the people here that people didn't stay away because of that. >> reporter: parade organizers closely monitored the developments. and decided not to cancel the event because following guidance from the cdc, they were confident the risk of contracting the virus was low. they also wantedtodiscourage zen obandiscrimination againstic aans. >> we brought masks but didn't wear them. and life has a lot of risks. i mean i. think they are doing as much as they can to protect the american people.>> from they exciting there's so much doing a lot to make sure that thecoronavirus doesn't come in. >> reporter: health officials are reminding people to follow standard flu precautions. . >> people are scared right now. nobody wants to get sick i understand that. but, i was talking about tonight with my family, and they were cautious numbers. a number of deaths in china linked to the outbreak is now 811. that surpasses the number of deaths linked to the sars outbreak in 2002 and 3. the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in china is more than 36,000. here in the u.s., a number of confirmed casethe american who died in china. according to a count from reuters, the virus spread to 27 countries and regions. bay area shopping mall. many shoppers fled in terror as you can imagine. the country's prime minister says it's the bloodiest shooting spree. authorities say a soldier angry himp gunman g in the mall where he had been holed up. . and back here in the bay area a richmond family is mournithloss of their 4- year-old son. his name was hector. and witnesses say he was standing with his family holding a box of popsicles when a driver slammed into him and took off. 4-year-old hector did not survive the crash near coa linga and 23rd street. police are looking for the driver. and kpix5 shows us they have a significant clue. . >> reporter: police say this is the metallic blue suv that hit the boy. the family of four had just returned from the store. there they were unloading groceries from the prius when the crash happened. witnesses say a little 4-year- old hector was holding a box of popsicles waiting for the family to grab the ot oceries etch was standing near his father on the driver's side door. that was when a speeding suv hit him. he landed about 25 feet away from the family car. . >> i heard a mom's cry. and a mom's cry is just really specific. you feel it in your heart. >> reporter: neighbor veronica ran out from the backyard to comfort the family. as another neighbor performed cpr on hector. paramedics airlifted the boy to a hospital where he later died. veronica is especially worried about hector's sister because the little girl witnessed the crash. >> now she has trauma. she has been traumatized and she is probably only like 7 years old. >> reporter: witnesses say the hit-and-run driver was a young black man in his 20s. he had a passenger. >> the guy came 35, maybe 40 miles miles per hour down the road and hit the kid here. and i saw him and he came up to about where my car was parked and came to a complete stop and turned around and i am pretty sure he saw what happened and just sped off. >> reporter: neighbors say speeding is a big problem on coalinga avenue. drivers go fast on the street. >> we are looking between the years of 99 and 20 had been 03 2003 two-door ford explorer which is not as common. it's a uncommon vehicle. >> reporter: inveorer s afr marketchrome rims and possibly a white sticker on the back window. the suv sustained minor frond enterdamage. neighbors will rally around the family to help them cope with the tragedy. richmond police are asking the public to look out for the suv. they need help to track down the driver and the passenger. in richmond i am da lin, kpix5. . an emotional moment a vigil was held for a 16-year-old student who was shot and killed at deer valley high school last week. friends and family remembered jonathan parker as a loving kid who liked to stay home and play video games. shooting that ended his life happened on january 31st. police say the gunfire erupted during a fight that broke out after a basketball game. jonathan was hit three times and rush to the hospital, but he died hours later. so far, no arrests have been made. . new video of a wild pursuit through solano and cost are a costa counties. the chp helicopter was overnight as carjacking suspects sped down interstate 780 # in vallejo and across the venetia bridge into contra costa. the stolen pickup turned back but the chase came to an abrupt end when the driver sped into a curb and rolled the truck onto its roof. that's when police took the two 17-year-olds, a male from venetia and female from vow lay hoe into custody. police want you to look at a missing person's photo. this is 19-year-old angelo la magalle who walked away late friday night from a home near wallace lane and badger road where he lives with the caregiver e has a brain injury that can make it difficult or impossible for him to community with people or comprehend his surroundings. he was last with a black track suit with blue stripes. it's been week since hundreds of campers were forced to leave a trail but where did they. go? >> reporter: few different estimates on how many people lived on the joe rodota trail, 250 maybe more at one point. so where do things stand now? one week after this trail was officially closed, and cleared out. . >> we wanted to pick a spot that was the least impact to our neighbors. and to the county. >> reporter: at the end of the wept west robles avenue there's the largest single group of people displaced. ashley williams does not live here but she has effectively organized the encampments. >> they will pop up all over the county because they have disbursed the trail without giving everybody services. >> reporter: the county rejects that assertion. this is what they said the day the trail was closedch. >> we have offered shelter. and we have placed nearly 50 people or assisted with housing assistance vouchers and we have tried to connect them to shelters available. but it depends on what their needs are. and what they want to do next. >> reporter: so with exactly 31 people, this new camp might represent around 20% of those who just walked away from joe rodota would be week ago. >> right now, this is the only site i know that's like this where we have a roster of who is out here. we have a mission statement for the camp. >> reporter: site is across the street from county property anddeclared an illegal encampment but williams hope that is negotiable. >> we are trying for some kind of meeting with authorities that will allow them to stay for a little while. >> we are trying to bridge the gaps that weren't happening at the trail here. and trying to make it a better is declared a state of emergency in three different oregon counties. . king tides are hitting the bay area beaches this weekend. and environmentalists say in pacific say they offer a glimpse into the future. the conservation group green foothills warns if something is not done to slow or reverse global warming, these extraordinary waves could and new normal for coastal communities. . >> when it urgent wea issue at hand. and just to update you on what the wind has been doing over the last hour, i am going to show you that same image that's got the peak wind gusts on it and it's the top number that grabs most pool's attention. mount st. helena at 81 miles per hour. but no one lives up there. that's way up in the mountains of the north bay. let's call out the other place where we live. cantedda rosa 33-mile-an-hour gust in the last hour. and concord 35. and san francisco, 28. that's in the city. but it's hit 33-mile-an-hour gust out at sfo. hayward, you are the one spot in the east bay that is registering noticeable gust of 23 miles per hour. doesn't itis not noticeably breezable but none of the sensors say we have bigger gusts. and san jose 14-mile-an-hour gusts. i mean that's not a whole lot. look at sustained wind in san jose, it's a 6-mile-an-hour breeze that occasionally gusts to 14. current wind speeds on the screen. everybody is noticed the wend pick up to some degree. and if we switch this over to the gust, you can see where the peak issues are. it's really along the coast. and still confined to the mountains. really up in the north bay and east bay. all right. that means the wind advisory in place until we get to 11:00 tomorrow morning. everyone where in blue is included in this. notice how most of the elevation in and around bay and communities of the north bay are not included. doesn't mean it's not going to be windy there. we have seen the wind pick up. it won't be bad enough to meet the criteria. and there's one other eye testimony we need to point out here. there's actually a high wind warning which is like two notches above a wind advisory. this means the winds will be noticeably more intense for the area in red and we are looking at the delta. this is basically where i-08 cuts up through fairfield. that's the main concern because travel concerns is the biggest factor there until 4 in the afternoon. if we watch the way the wind plays out, this gets us ahead to 1 in the afternoon. this is peak wind gusts time. now we are seeing gusts hit near 30 across much of the bay area. we are taking a look across the south bay and east bay here. so it gets strongest in the afternoon and dies down a bit overnight and by tomorrow we get a break. let's do the same for the north bay. i will play it forward into the afternoon once again similar story. pes coming through the afternoon. and by tonight, things start tocalm down at lower elevations where the majority of us live, places like santa rosa petaluma. daytime highs. be back up into the low 60s for most places i don't think the temperatures are really going to be when you notice about today. it is the wind. but temperatures will be what you notice about monday and tuesday. look at that warmup. we turn the wind off and will warm temperatures up. low 70s for inland spots and mid-60s for much of the rest of the 7-day throughout the rest of the day. no rain. see you with
