so, it very much feels as if, if there's blame in communities, if there are protests, that the focus will be on local officials, on what they might not have done, as opposed to people looking at the president and the rules that he put in place. but they must have been really nervous when the crowds were saying, "down with the communist party, "down with xi jinping." i mean, that's the kind of thing that really must worry them, isn't it? it must. i mean, i've never seen protests like this. it feels unprecedented, the fact that they're happening in so many different areas. you look on platforms like twitter, and these platforms are being flooded with spam accounts, messages about gambling, about escorts, to try and... if people search about the protests, they don't see pictures and videos of them coming in. the idea of anybody showing any dissatisfaction, it's been the message long—term in china — the government would ratherjust ignore it
