one, magnitude 3.9 struck under memorial stadium at about 8:16 tonight. they downgraded it to a 3.8 for you. first one hit southeast of berkeley that was magnitude 4.0 and this one is downgraded to 3.8. now, the latest from the epicenter. >> reporter: this is almost a repeat of the quake we felt this afternoon. the latest quake struck at 8:16 p.m. like this afternoon's quake it had a preliminary magnitude 4.2 but was downgraded to 3.8. it ended up with a 4.0 magnitude. both quakes were triggered around the memorial stadium. memorial stadium is undergoing major construction. there were no reports of damage from this afternoon. we have yet to hear where there is any damage stemming from tonight. bart as a matter of routine interrupted service agency to give them time to inspect the track. they are experiencing 15 minute delays but no reports of any damage. lilian kim, "abc 7 news." we wanted to switch now to the u.s.g.s. and seismologist walter mooney. thanks very much for coming on. we appreciate it. >> you are kind to make the time for us. tell us what you know about the most recent event and ask you few more questions. what happened tonight? >> what happened tonight was that we had a very similar earthquake, we'll call it an aftershock, it occurred six hours after the previous earthquake. it gave us a really good jolt. i felt it here in menlo park. it's located in a cluster of earthquakes we've had our eye on for about 40 years. this region has a lot of these moderate sized and small sized earthquakes near the berkeley campus. >> does this have to produce a much learjs quake in this area where there has been a cluster of quakes? >> the possibility this would be followed by a much larger earthquake is quite small. this including terrify has been active for a long time, as i mentioned. it's unlikely that foretells a much larger earthquake. that probability is down in a few percent. 95 or 97 or higher probability level this will not be followed by a 5. m less likely it would be followed by a significant earthquake. so it's more in the realm of really good warning for people to get prepared and to remind us all we're living in earthquake country. >> there is tremendous value of that. you have made our night it doesn't portend anything else of any significance. >> good news. he doesn't think it's a sign of more significant in that area where there has been a cluster of earthquakes. >> we wanted to move to the death of moammar khadafy. got a call there are multiple shooting victims in the quarry. it just happened. >> multiple? >> yes, multiple victims in the quarry. >> a senseless shooting rampage had unfolded at lehigh cement plant in cupertino. second call was no longer secondhand information. it came from an emotional man that watched the horror unfold. >> everybody is on the way. hold on for a second. >> please, they are going to die. >> hold on, sir. >> thank you. >> we believe this man took part in the longest of the 911 calls. he told dispatchers he had been shot. >> where are you shot? >> in my arms. i think one of my legs. >> okay. >> more than one caller identified the shooter as their co-worker, just five minutes after that first call a clear picture emerged as to what happened. almond had brought a handgun and assault gun and within and on opened fire. >> we pulled out an ak gun and he walked out with the gun and went crazy. >> he killed three people and wounded six. manhunt ended the next day in which police say they were forced to open fire. but the coroner says it was almond that killed himself. in a calculated moment, they became his victims. >> do you have any type of cloths or towels? >> no, there is a blood all over. there is no cloth in the spot. have you ever seen a massacre? that is what it looks like. >> a spokesperson says some of the employees who witnessed those events have not returned to work and they have the company's support. there are gruif counselors that are also at the facility. let's go to washington where late tonight, senate republicans rejected efforts to take up a jobs bill. it would have given states about $35 billion to fund jobs for teachers, police and firefighters. the white house says that measure would support almost 400,000 education jobs. this is the second time the senate has blocked the jobs plan. >> california has adooptd don't the nation's most comprehensive system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. they voted unanimously this afternoon to adopt the cap and trade plan. its key part of the state's landmark global warming law that seeks to reduce global emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. it would require producers to buy permits to exceed their emission limits. >> we think this program is going to be signaling a transition to less waste and a better economic future for california rather than what some people have been saying. opponents say the cap and trade program will increase the cost of energy, increase the cost of doing business and cost the state jobs. the program will begin next year. talk about the weather barely cleared golden gate bridge and ocean beach. here some of the highs and temperatures, fairfield, 76, 70 in napa. 72 in novato. 61 was the high in san francisco only 60 for half moon bay. 70 was the high in san jose. we had 76 in livermore today, very mild afternoon there. right now we've slipped into the mid to upper 50s. inland locations such as oakland concord and antioch in the low 60s. highlights, continuous low clouds and fog tonight. get ready for a warmer day on friday and warming trend will move right through the weekend. in fact at our coast, beach weather will be possible with highs reaching close to 70 degrees there. overnight tonight, with the clearing especially in the north bay, santa rosa and napa, cool side, mid to upper 40s for lows. elsewhere, low clouds will filter back in, overnight temperatures, a little warmer around the 60s. here the setup. a trough of low pressure right here. it is going to move over the bay area overnight. you see low clouds sitting off the coast and it's going push it inland. it's not going to hang around very long tomorrow. once it moves on through, this high will move back in and that is going to be the beginning of our weekend warmup. tomorrow, overcast but that moves on out. temperatures warmer, 60s and 70s across much of the bay area. some locations anywhere from five to as much as ten degrees warmer than we were today. 76 for san jose, cupertino, 86 at the coast. temperatures in the 60s. half moon bay, 74 degrees, san francisco, 68 degrees in t. in the north bay, 75 for petaluma as well as napa. oakland at some time
