>> glor: and this is our western edition. good evening. the fires are still spreading. president trump declared a state of emergency clearing the way for additional federal aid. six major fires burned more than 140,000 acres an area larger than chicago. more than 500 structures have been destroyed. carter evans is in san diego where another fire started today. >> when the winds kicked up, the flakes >> reporter: when the winds kicked up, the flames roared. and many homes in this north san diego community never had a chance. 1,000 firefighters were called to battle the flames, but they were no match for the 50-mile- per-hour gusts that fueled this massive fire. when firefighters came across this home, it was already burning. you can see they're putting everything they've got on it right now, but it's not enough. the wind is blowing the smoke and the flames. this is what it looks like now.
