will be laying off 229 employees from its san mateo office. they are replacing the people that are paying more money to us and the tale of people doing the same job in buffalo, new york. so that's a cost cutting measure. bob o'donnell is the ceo of tech knowledge. this research, a technology market research company. he says tech companies are adjusting their staff level because of their economy. tech companies who have big plans for the growth that they have been enjoying are finally realizing they need to readjust those plants as things have started to slow down. netflix laid off 300 people in june. google ceo announced on tuesday hiring will focus on engineering, technical and other critical rules. a leaked memo from facebook shows the social media company is looking to we doubt low performers. facebook, however, told kron 4, no layoffs are planned. that has nothing to do with the economy. it's just being, you know, used right now is an example of companies. >> even coming in those sorts of areas. o'donnell says he perceives tech companies continuing to focus on hiring only people with specialized skills. engineers, computer programmers, but operational people in advertising or marketing may get slashed things get a little tighter. what they're doing is they're saying, hey, maybe we need to look at this through handle. so the operations peas for this group as well and they're doing that. o'donnell says as people are being laid off, tech companies are still hiring. it's a big sector for us growth and he doesn't foresee a heightened unemployment numbers for $18 an hour. supporters of the initiative have gathered enough valid signatures to get that measure on the ballot for the general election in november of 2024, the state's minimum wage is already set to increase to $15.50 for all workers next year. a similar effort to place a measure on the ballot this year was unsuccessful because not enough signatures could be verified ahead of the deadline. and other news tonight, a 15 year-old berkeley high school student has been arrested in connection with a assault. berkeley police say the victim is also a student at the same school officers went to the campus on may 20th shortly after 12:30pm, in the afternoon during school hours. one month later, police obtained a warrant and arrested the suspect. the 15 year-old is now booked into juvenile hall and facing charges in the south bay. police in san jose say they found an underground bunker filled with stolen property and guns. kron four's charles clifford has details. >> well, the san jose police department says that early monday morning officers respond to reports of a burglary along south 10th street during the course of that investigation. they found an individual at a nearby homeless camp in possession of several stolen items after searching the camp, they found an underground bunker. the bunkers located along coyote creek at willow creek drive in a homeless camp inside. they found multiple stolen items, including power tools and also 3 shotguns, which were reported taken from the business that was burglarized on monday morning. now total 6 people have been arrested in connection to this case. and what we've learned from the police department is that this bunker wasn't just being used to store stolen items. people were living there as well. it was partially residents is as it seems right now, 5 of the individuals arrested were using as residents. >> that being said, the majority of the property was discovered there was stolen property. now all 6 people who are arrested in connection to this case are facing multiple charges, including charges for felony possession of stolen property. >> burglary and also weapons charges. we understand that at least some of the stolen items have been returned to the rightful owners. but for now in the south bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> in the north bay forward, progress has been stopped on a fire burning in benicia there. herman fires it's called, is now burning. it 115 acres since 40% contained. it's burning in the area of lake herman road and channel road. firefighters are on the scene trying to contain the blaze. benicia officials say no structures are threatened and no evacuations have been ordered. but lake herman road is closed in both directions. we'll continue to follow the giant wave rolling into the bay area and more of that to really slow down the fires around the bay area popping up. so have some drizzle last night. of course, you get out toward the east bay and they're not feel the effects that drizzle. not much that moisture little bit that on shore flow. here's a look at the fire right now. herman road. you can see it right there and channel road. also, we're seeing that fire burning in some dry vegetation. now that location, they have some gusty winds this afternoon over 20 miles per hour. some of those gusts now backing off just a little bit, but not by much. and so certainly enough that a concern as you get that seabreeze blown, especially the afternoon hours having to worry about some of these pop-up fires. but around the rest, the bay area, some breezy, too near the coastline. and san francisco have some gusts over 30 miles an hour today. sf over 20, but that sea breeze will bring with it. that low cloud and fog deck. and there it is rolling back on shore, right? that now looks like that sea breeze going to carry inland again, but not as extensive. i think a little more patchy overnight tonight. and that means a probably an earlier burn off tomorrow. most parts of the bay area. that means some warmer temperatures are going to be had air quality so far, not bad. in fact, you're all in green across the bay area from of the coastline. to the bay to the east bay. they have some trouble in the pittsburgh area due to the fire there. but most that i think coming in the morning hours when the winds are kind of slack, there's not much wind in the atmosphere. so the smoke kind of just settles in there. but once the sea breeze picks up into the air quality, looking good in around those sections forecast for the bay area. air quality looking good through tomorrow as well. i think things may change over the weekend, but right now we are all in green to the day tomorrow. thank you, lawrence. >> well, summer travel is back is not the only virus spreading across the bay area. latest on the monkeypox outbreak coming up tonight at 8 expanding eviction protections for california as the new rules announced today by the attorney general and the marsh fire continues to burn in eastern contra costa county. the effect it could be having on the air quality and residents health. >> an increased number of monkeypox infections are showing up in the bay area contra costa county reported its first confirmed case yesterday. santa clara county reported 9 cases. sonoma county has 3 the san francisco case rate is significantly higher than the rest of the bay area. with 68 confirmed cases, marin county health officials say they're looking into 2 possible cases. they haven't yet been confirmed and no other counties reported new cases as of yesterday as more positive cases of monkeypox do pop up. san francisco is running out of his short supply of vaccine. the department of public health says it's requested. 35,000 more doses from the federal government. but if and when they'll arrive remains to be seen. kron four's rob nesbitt has been following this story closely. the last 2 weeks tonight. he has an expert's analysis of the disease. >> after my story aired tuesday night about the low supply of the monkeypox vaccine and long lines at vaccination sites receive several questions from viewers working in a lab where they've been exposed to the monkeypox virus. the san francisco department of public health says they've administered more than 1700 doses of the monkeypox vaccine at sites screen. it will take you to our website for more information. now the washburn fire burning in yosemite national park. more than 1000 people are battling that blaze despite the growth of the fire. experts say there is hope for the giant sequoias at mariposa >> grove colleges believe the 2000 plus year old trees will survive. sprinkler systems have been small installed in the mariposa grove area to keep those trees, moist smoke is pouring out of the park, reaching all the way up to the bay area, parts of the bay area and prompting air quality advisories here at last check. the fire has burned more than 3700 acres. containment is now down compared to previous reports. it's now just 17%. the rest of yosemite park outside of mariposa grove is open for tourists right now. >> an air quality advisory in contra costa county will stay in effect through tomorrow. the bay area air quality management district extended that advisory because of the marsh fire that has been burning since may. the contra costa county fire protection district says the marsh fire started in a homeless encampment in bay point. it has since burned into large amounts of pete in inaccessible areas underground. the fire protection district says pete fires are notoriously stubborn and are often left to just burn themselves out. >> it's about every single day. you know the case. gets annoying after a while. >> contra costa, health services is also monitoring the situation and has also issued a health advisory. officials are asking older adults, pregnant women, children and people with respiratory conditions to avoid outdoor activities. well, now to our 4 zone forecast to see how it does look outdoors right now. and if you're in the city, this is your view downtown. a cloud deck overhead to buy the transamerica building a lawrence is here to talk about that as well as what's going in and your you know, those trees been around for a couple 1000 years for a reason, right? they are tough. yeah, they've got the bark. the helps fight those fires when they come through. but yeah, hope they stay there. that's for the weather conditions today. but right now you can see that smoke plume starting this morning starting to raise right to the north. >> and then begin to push east by the afternoon. so you start to see that circulation that on shore breeze by the afternoon, kind of kicking all that smoke eastward. still some of those winds over 20 miles an hour that a significant wind around opened fire. but right now the latest in the forecast models has a change in the weather pattern. things will begin to shift gears now and some of that smoke might start to make its way back into parts of the bay area, at least parts of the east bay. by the weekend. tomorrow, high pressure begins to build in all the 4 corner states. and that is going to bring that smoke plume a little into the central valley. you can see there you see the areas in red as the forecast models show some of that smoke beginning to spend spread right across the hills there and finally into the sacramento valley by the afternoon and then looks like that, though, will start to make its way eastward is that sea breeze kicks in once again. but over the weekend, we're oing to see that working its way further back up toward the bay. area's a high pressure will start to bring some of the circulation around that ridge. we're with some of that smoke back in our direction right now, though, things are roading along the coastline. as far as the fog is concerned. so yeah, we'll see less fog tomorrow. the temperatures are heating up to up there right now. a lot of fog in the san francisco gray skies a rolling on in temperatures right now. that's the warm in some places. you've got 70's in concord right now and also live more. 75 in antioch, 60's 8 degrees in napa. 66. >> in santa rosa, 64 degrees in palo alto. i think we'll see this beginning to spread on shore. maybe a little more drizzle overnight tonight. >> it's tomorrow morning. but just patch, remember last couple days, it was surging all the way to the central valley. then breaks up a little bit earlier by tomorrow afternoon. we should be
