>> for this monday, january 31st, 2011, as the lights are coming back on for nearly everyone, another storm is approaching. this one is being called a monster. can you see it moving toward chicago, where there is already a blizzard warning. an estimated 100 million could be impacts when this storm is finished. tom is here to tell us what we can expect. we will be affected, not greatly, like the midwest. >> we could have problems here by this time tomorrow morning. no travel problems, off to work and school this morning it is cold. we are down here a bit milder in southern maryland, in the mid 30s. this is mostly for freezing rain. this will be for late tonight into tomorrow, all the counties in the pennsylvania border. temperatures up that way are near 20 and into the teens across the border into pennsylvania and ohio. over the last 12 hours, we have had some clouds something in to our south and produced a few flurries, toward the shore, beginning to dissipate. cloudy up this afternoon, temperatures slowly dropping into the region throughout the day today. that reaches in the low 30s by late morning, and sunrise is at 7:15, the sunset 5:28. by midnight, sleet and light snow from time to time until dawn. then, mixing with freezing rain. during the day tomorrow, we may have some freezing rain from time to time. mixing with rain, and ice on tree limbs may cause power outages tomorrow. a look at wednesday and thursday at 5:11. how is traffic? >> we are in good shape on the interstates, south of town, on the woodrow wilson bridge. moving nicely. inner loop. look out for patches of ice. if it melted over the weekend t refroze last night. >> falls church an accident past the camera at route 7. the flashing lights by police may be a distraction. head downtown rockville. the lights are on in the mixing bowl. heading over to check trains. first check of the trains, no delays. >> and tourists and other foreigners are rushing to escape violent unrest. we learned that one of the state department evacuation flights will be landing in a half hour from now, unscheduled flight is scheduled to land in cypress at 5:30 our time. one of several charter flights, the u.s. government arranged to get people to save havens, to greece, turkey and sipress, there are 50,000 americans registered with the embassy in egypt. >> protest organizers, strike. t tomorrow, organizers said they are hosting a march they are calling a walk of thousands. >> evacuations of american tourists are underway this morning. the president is calling the united kingdom, and others, the demonstrators continue to storm the streets of cairo. thousands of people at cairo airport are stuck, between the revolt in the streets and cancelled flights. the state department is chartering flights to evacuate all american citizens that want to leave. >> we want to see free and fair elections, we expect that will be one of the outcomes. we are working closely with the egyptian government to ensure the safety of american citizens. we have offered a voluntary departure. we are reaching out to american citizens. >> and washingtonians with roots in egypt are glued to the developments. one woman writes, this is a long time in coming, i worry that extended chaos leaves a void for extremists to take the lead. it could be a great change, it could be really bad. that is one opinion, back to you. nearly 30 local college students studying in egypt are expected to be evacuated. 15 george town students are studying at the american university of cairo, and students from george washington university are in cairo. the plan is to get them back to the u.s. as soon and as safely as possible. >> one virginia woman is among those still stuck in cairo. eleanor radcliff, holed up in a hotel, she is finally starting to feel the tension there. >> i didn't feel unset until the jets came flying oefrpt. one came in low over the hotel. i thought we were being bombed. >> one couple arrived at dulles yesterday after their trip was cut short. they said, despite sporaddic communication troubles, they felt safe. >> pepco trues are busy trying to get electricity back to their customers. governor o'malley is calling for action. 300 pepco customers do not have power, five days without power now. most of those in montgomery county. and prince george's county. joining us live in rockville. >> reporter: that is down from 190,000 folks who were in the dark and in the cold because of this storm. take a look behind me here. can you see this crew in rockville is still working. they pulled a transformer from under ground here. they are making progress. the governor o'malley, saying it is not happening fast enough. dominion said all their outages are fixed. and o'malley writes to the clairmont of pepco, it is with frustration and concern for the residents, and the 1,500 prince george's county residents they write to express my anger that we seem to be back where we started. why can't pepco perform like the fellow utilities do. he asked the public service commission to conduct an immediate hearing and wants to introduce legislation allowing the commission to etch fine them for poor response, and direct that money back to rent payers. we will let you know who is still in the dark, and what the pepco plan is for getting them power. thank you. 5:08, 32 degrees. who was offering suggestions to solve the problems at arlington national cemetery. >> and the possibility of snow today. we are keeping an eye on the major winter storm. i have fallen in love with making bird houses. caw caw! begun to evacuate foreign citizens, protesters have started a day-long strike, taking to the streets to protest the government there. in our area, pepco crews are busy trying to get electricity back to all their customers sm, are still in the dark, after last wednesday's storm, customers still have no power. police are close to names a suspect killed in a dramatic bank robbery. this video shows him dragging a woman out. he was later shot and killed by police. >> today, a mother who tried to run back to a burning home to save her children will have to bury her daughters, a fire destroyed their home earlier this month. fire fighters don't know how the fire started, but say it was an accident. friends and family held a fundraiser and vigil. the funeral for both girls will take place at st. ambrose in maryland. the assessment of arlington national cemetery, the review was completed by the council that included booze allen hamilton. it looked at the business processes, and technology challenges, and have specific recommendations to improve the cemetery. they agreed to conduct the review for free. a high-ranking officer disciplined for videos he created, and now is defending himself. the videos from 2006 and 2007, showing him in a number of racy scenes. they relieved him as the officer of the uss enterprise. he is now on administrative duty. a 15-page statement from the captain to investigators, he wrote that several senior officials gave him positive feedback and never told him to stop producing the videos. they say he was told to stop making them in 2007. they play called the protest of the millions. the state department is walking a fine line in telling egypt to implement some democratic reform. >> we continue to urge the egyptian government to respond to the people, and implement democratic and economic reform. >> leaders from the european union to listen to people call for reform. we received word from the u.s. embassy in cairo, the first evacuation flight is expected to leave in just a few hours, joining us loo live with more. >> reporter: the state department has chartered planes and they are beginning to evacuate from cairo. nbc news has learn thad one of those flights was scheduled to land, that flight may not actually leave cairo for a few more hours yet. a lot of details still being worked out it is a fluid situation. they are beginning the process of evacuating from egypt. two dozen american college students from our area in egypt and the state department will be chartering the flights, to help those get out of the country. what is supposed to arrive right now, we are learning of delays. we are learning a bit more about the folks who are over there from our area. george town, 15 students in egypt. they are all accounted for. they have had contact with those students. gw have all but two in cairo. some american tourists have made it back home. cut their vacation short, including one couple from virginia, they are glad to
