york. ann curry and al roker have made their way to universal orlando resort. guys, anything big happening there this morning? you know what, matt, as you can tell, people are very excited. have we mentioned the wizarding world of harry potter actually opens today? i heard something about that. i know. we re surrounded by these classes we picked months ago. if they can even hear me we have the bill roberts school from de denver, colorado. we have the school out of it tulsa, oklahoma. we ve got the centreville elementary school out of virginia. and we have the elementary school out of san antonio. they won because of their efforts to raise money for the children of haiti. we re here because harry potter is such a global phenomenon, earnings of more than $5 billion at the box office, the high ees grossing movies ever in history. that s right. we ve got this magic we re launching today. in fact, it s taken five years, $265 million to transform 20 acres into the world of harry potter. we re going to take you throughout hogsmeade over the next few hours and really show you how you re going to get immersed into this magical world. and we re going to take you not only on a roller coaster ride but introduce you once again to the stars of the movies including daniel radcliff, matt. you and i learned some magic tricks. that s right. we re going to be made guinea pigs on that, i have a feeling. anyway, we look forward to hearing more from you in orlando. we ll check back with you in a little while and get a check of the weather as well, al. tony hayward, the ceo of bp, received his grilling on capitol hill on thursday. but it is the controversial apology that was made to him by a congressman from texas that has ignited a bit of a firestorm on capitol hill. we ll have the latest on that. and then a little later in the show two music legends on one stage. james taylor and carole king will put on a live concert out on our plaza in our 8:30 half hour. but we begin on a friday morning with those deadly tornadoes in minnesota. the weather channel s mike seidel is in the hard hit town in minnesota. mike, good morning to you. reporter: good morning, matt. we re with three hours north-northwest of minneapolis-st. paul. this was the school bus garage until a twister ravaged this part of the town. look at the steel beams twisted like match sticks thrown against this bus. back here more damage. a concrete block building completely destroyed. one of 60 twisters that skipped through five states yesterday killing two in minnesota and injuring dozens. this is near the iowa line. a huge wedge tornado fortunately out in an open field. the nearby town of albert lea was fine. more twister video. now this one thunderstorm super cell reportedly spun up a dozen tornadoes about an hour and a half to two hours south of minneapolis-st. paul. here in wadena widespread damage. the high school lost its roof. the town virtually destroyed. the mayor of wadena saying early warning, the sirens going off 36 minutes in advance helped to save lives. there were 20 injuries. only three remain in the hospital this morning. matt, the early report, 35 twisters in the state of minnesota. if that holds, that would mean yesterday was the most this state has seen the most tornadoes minnesota has seen in one day on record. back to you. all right, mike. our thoughts with the people out there. mike seidel from the weather channel, thank you very much. moving on the first execution by firing squad in the united states in 14 years was carried out overnight in utah. it s a method that was chosen by convicted killer ronnie lee gardner. george, good morning to you. reporter: good morning, matt. for decades condemned prisoners in utah could choose their method of execution until 2004 when the legislature mandated lethal injection. but gardner was convicted under the old law so he chose to die by firing squad. he did that, according to his brother, because he had gunned down his victims and figured death by firing squad was appropriate. it was shortly after midnight here when gardner was led into this execution chamber, strapped to this chair, and asked if he had any final words. to which mr. gardner replied, i do not. following the statement a hood was placed over mr. guard mer s head. reporter: five sharpshooters took aim at his heart and fired. mr. gardner was pronounced dead at 12:17 this morning. the lights. reporter: in the hours leading up to the execution, groups opposing the death penalty demonstrated outside the prison grounds and at the utah state capitol in salt lake city. gardner s death sentence was a result of a courthouse shooting spree 25 years ago. in a botched escape attempt, he killed a lawyer and seriously wounded the bailiff. he was in court because of a previous murder charge. as his execution date approached, gardner tried to get his sentence commuted to life, arguing to the parole board that his 25 years in prison had made him a changed man. i can do a lot of good. i really believe that i can first of all, i m a good example. there s no better example in this state of what not to do. reporter: but the parole board didn t agree. the board denies gardner s petition for commutation. reporter: and, after gardner was executed, the relatives of some of his victims spoke to reporters. he s gone now. and we don t have to worry about him escaping and killing some other innocent person. we all, i think, felt the same. just kind of relief that it was over with now. reporter: gardner s family stood vigil outside the prison releasing balloons at the time of his execution. it s sad that he s gone but he s free now. you know, i just don t agree with with the death penalty. i think they committed a murder just like he did. two wrongs don t make a right. reporter: a violent end to a violent man. this may not put an end to firing squad executions in utah. there are others on death row who have the same choice that gardner had. matt? george lewis in utah for us this morning. george, thank you very much. now to the disaster in the gulf. tony hayward, bp s embattled chief executive, tried to distance himself from the crisis during his testimony before congress on thursday. it was a hearing filled with heated exchanges and one controversial apology from an unexpected source. nbc s kelly o donnell is on capitol hill with details on that. kelly, good morning to you. reporter: morning, matt. the biggest surprise, the oddest thing, had nothing to do with tony hayward s comments himself. but hayward did draw a lot of frustration out of lawmakers because he runs bp. he has a ph.d. in geology, but he had really very few answers. he would not draw conclusions about what happened, saying it s still too early in the investigation. for all his wealth and power as chief of bp, tony hayward made clear what he s not. i m not the drilling engineer so i m not actually qualified to make those judgments. i m not a cement engineer, i m afraid. i simply was not involved in the decision making process. reporter: and that was not acceptable to frustrated and angry lawmakers. i think you re insulting our intelligence and i really resent it. we know you re not an engineer, and we know that you were not on the deepwater horizon, but your answer 65 times that you don t know to questions that were reasonably posed to you on both sides of the aisle erodes confidence. with all due respect, mr. hayward, i think you re copping o out. you re the captain of the ship. with respect, sir, we drill hundreds of wells a year all i know, that s what s scaring me right now. reporter: in the days ahead, a quieter question and answer may actually stand out even more about what bp cannot do to stop the gushing oil. have you abandoned any other efforts to kill this well? there are no other options to kill this well other than from a well at the base of the reservoir so we have to rely on the relief wells. reporter: the prediction is those relief wells won t be dug until august. we are continuing to contain as much of the oil as we can can. reporter: that is after nearly two months of fixes that failed with lives and livelihoods lost. do you expect to be ceo of bp much longer? at the moment, i m focused on the response. has anyone in bp been fired because of this incident? anybody? yes or no? no so far. reporter: but in a very strange political subplot texas republican joe barden nearly lost his prime committee position. but i m ashamed what happened in the white house, what i would characterize as a shakedown. reporter: barton who has received campaign money from big oil, apologized to hayward claiming it was illegal for the administration to demand $20 billion from bp while also investigating the company. what can i say? reporter: it was like a siren went off. stunned outrage from the administration. his own republican leaders demanded barton retract it or lose his committee spot. if anything i ve said this morning has been misconstrued to opposite effect, i want to apologize for that misconstruction. reporter: that drama over, what mattered far more were hayward s regrets. i m very, very sorry that this accident owe can kurd. very sorry. reporter: and new promises. and if there is any points evidenced to suggest people put costs ahead of safety, then i will take action. reporter: and hayward described himself as devastated and said that he understands what the people on the gulf coast are going through and hopes the $20 billion fund will show them that bp will keep its word about paying for costs and sticking with it. and he was asked about those comments from congressman joe barton and he said he does not believe the $20 billion fund was some kind of a shakedown. matt? kelly o donnell on capitol hill this morning. kelly, thanks very much. david gregory is the moderator of meet the press. hi, david. good morning to you. good morning, matt. we ll talk about mr. barton in just a second. did we learn anything yesterday? we see hearings like this in the senate and the house and a lot of venting, a lot of posturing for the constituents back home. did we learn anything? i don t think we learned a whole lot more beyond that except that tony hayward is still not in a position to say, as one congressman pointed out, yes, i am the captain of this ship. i am responsible. heads will roll at the appropriate time. i think the view is he still lacks a commanding presence, the kind of contrition that a lot of americans want to see, certainly members of congress want to see. having said that, probably nothing is enough at a point where both ends of pennsylvania avenue they want to really flog bp as much as they can. i guess the irony here is that after mr. hayward spends several hours on the stand, we re all talking about something that a congressman actually said and that is joe barton of texas. he s a republican. he called that $20 billion escrow account set up by bp some kind of a shakedown. how quickly did you hear from the republican leadership? very quickly. when you have the republican leader in the house saying this is wrong and this is not how we feel and he is sent back out in front of cameras to sheepishly apologize, you know this was a public relations disaster. for a republican congressman with ties to the oil industry to come out and say this was a shakedown is simply beyond the pale and even made joe biden, the vice president, speechless for a time. bp agreed to this fund. they are going to be sued six ways from sunday. they know that even beyond the $20 billion fund. they want to do business in america in the future. they know they have to pay out claims when they were clearly negligent on a lot of levels. that s why they agreed to do this and, yes, the administration applied a lot of pressure. i don t think anybody believes it was a shakedown. the latest polling numbers we have showed that about 52% of the american people disapprove of the way the president is handling this oil spill crisis. that s up from 33% from a month ago. but i want to point out this polling was done before the president s latest trip to the gulf which was a two-day trip, before his oval office address to the nation, before that $20 billion fund was set up. take me inside the white house. do they think they had a good week? well, they do. the feeling initially was that this was going to be some kind of turning point and i don t think they believe they ve turned this thing around. the president likes to use the big ocean liner analogy at times saying it s very difficult to make a quick turn in that circumstance, and they don t necessarily think they ve done that. but there s three important things establishing that command and control out of the white house that they feel the president did. two, talking about a deadline here, the end of june when they might be able to siphon off 90% of the oil and, most importantly, that deliverable, that $20 billion fund. ultimately, as you know and as the president told you in your interview recently. it s about really sticking it to bp at this point, being that consumer advocate, looking out for people on the gulf coast. i think the president went a long way in being able to do that by beginning to secure the money for those people who need it most. dave, what do you have lined up for sunday on meet the press ? you can imagine we re going to talk more about the summer of oil. we ll devote it to the containment of the spill, containing and plugging the hole. also drilling in the gulf in the future, the future of energy policy. we ll have all sides of it covered. all right, david, thanks very much. good seng you. thanks, matt. let s get bombing of times square is facing life in prison after being indicted thursday on ten terrorism and weapons charges. they include conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction. according to the indictment faisal shahzad received $12,000 in two separate payments from the pakistani taliban to carry out the attack. president obama heads to columbus, ohio, today to tout the jobs created by a $25 billion road project there that was launched under his economic recovery act. meantime, european markets edged higher this morning. cnbc s melissa lee is at the new york stock exchange. what are we focusing on today? reporter: part of what fueled the gains is an announcement from the european central bank that it will be releasing the results of european bank stress tests all by the end of july. this move is meant to increase transparency and ease investor concern over the balance sheet of the banks there. remember the u.s. did similar tests to banks here and releasing the results of those tests actually sparked a rally, a multimonth rally, in both bank stocks and the u.s. stock market. natalie. melissa lee at the new york stock exchange, thank you. a big recall. campbell s is recalling 15 million pounds of spaghettios because of under processing t. affects the a to z and fun shapes with meatballs. and an icelandic court has ruled bobby fisher s body can be exhumed to determine whether he is the father of a 9-year-old gi girl. fisher died and was buried in iceland in 2008. he left no will and there are ongoing disputes over his estate. and i m sure if you were up late, the lakers have clinched their 16th nba championship defeating the boston celtics last night 83-79 in game seven of the finals. and police actually had to restrain some of the thousands of fans who poured monday. and that s your latest weather. matt? al, thank you so much. a new court appearance and a new look for american college student amanda knox who is currently serving 26 years in jail for the murder of her roommate. nbc s dawna friesen is in london with the latest on this story. dawna, good morning to you. reporter: amanda knox is facing another summer in an italian prison. she is appealing her conviction but is now fighting new charges as well and she s changed her look. seven months after her conviction for murder, 22-year-old amanda knox is in an italian courtroom again. this time fighting charges she slandered italian police. her once long hair is now short. she cut it two days after her conviction when she was sev sentenced to 26 years for the brutal murder of her former roommate, british student meredith kercher. her stepfather said she is holding up well. she does what she has to do to just kind of keep going. it s difficult for her definitely. but she ll make it through this. she s strong. reporter: at her trial knox claimed italian police slapped and yelled at her during an all-night interrogation. knox and her parents say italian police violated her human rights. they should have provided her with a lawyer and all of her conversations with them were supposed to be taped. you know, none of that happened. reporter: now knox, in addition to appealing her murder conviction, is fighting slander charges. she may want to argue the fact they re going after her again shows you just how vindictive these prosecutors are. reporter: knox s image has evolved in the 2 1/2 years since she was charged. then she was seen kissing and cuddling her boyfriend and co-accused a day after kercher s murder. she sometimes arrived in court with a big smile. her new look and serious demeanor are a departure. fresh hope for knox s appeal may come from a potential new witness, a mafia member now in prison himself claims his brother, antonio, killed kercher after breaking into the apartment but prosecutors have deemed his evidence unreliable. the main concern that we have is the fact the court would not even hear him. they are compelled by law to hear every single person who has witness testimony. reporter: knox s lawyers are pushing to have that convicted mafia member admitted as a witness when her appeal gets under way later this year, and if all right, ann, thanks i mean, al, thanks very much. we ll check in with you in just a moment. now to serious news. those revealing new jailhouse tapes of the 15-year-old accused of beating josie nearly to death. peter alexander, to you. reporter: this is an awful story. there are more than 12 hours of revealing jailhouse phone conversations between wayne tracy and his mother and stepfather. 32 recordings in all that give us a rare glimpse into his mindset since the attack. he complains about jail food. he discusses his hopes for the future and he speaks about his feelings of guilt about that horrific attack. facing first-degree attempted murder charges, 15-year-old wayne tracy has had three months behind bars to reflect on his attack on josie rattly. i know i wasn t myself. it was so vicious, so severe, police say treacy stomped on her head with steel-toed beats and left her with brain damage. she recently returned home. that s it. reporter: and is now basically starting from scratch relearning the alphabet. even how to put on lip gloss. go like this. have you heard anything more? no, i haven t. last i heard she was home, going into rehabilitation. well, i m still praying. reporter: treacy confessed to police on tape but has pled not guilty to the crime. he told detectives after a series of profanity laced text messages between him and josie he snapped when he got one text telling him to visit his late brother michael who committed suicide last fall. authorities say treacy didn t know his alleged victim, that he was texting josie s phone trying to reach 13-year-old kayla manson now charged as an accomplice for allegedly identifying josie to treacy before the attack. kayla recently told meredith she didn t think treacy would become violent. i thought he would just curse her out or yell at her. embarrass her. you just ruined your life, attempted murder. what were you thinking? it s kind of amazing. we ve all grown up on the set and obviously are very attached to them and they re wonderful, wonderful sets. you see that it is made of scaffold and wood rather than rock. and so, you know, what s wonderful about this place there is never a moment where the illusion is broken so everything is kind of real and true. it is kind of 700 foot of castle behind us. yeah, it s pretty awe inspiring. what was your reaction when you saw it? it s been an emotional few days because we wrapped on saturd in the film. this past saturday? come straight here and see the place is amazing. there were actually a lot of tears. i can see how emotional you are about it because it s been really half of your lives that you ve been playing this and you as well. not cry again. keep it together. very much so. very much so. even yesterday we were up on the stage the night before that with john williams. it was a very touching moment. it was very moving. a tear jerker. it was very much so. and saying it was like feeling the death of a friend. that was taken very extremely. but, yes. it s a very sad moment for us all, i think. and, in fact, michael, when you your character albus dumbledore actually appears during the ride. i saw it for the first time yesterday and i was overwhelmed by it. it didn t look like me. it s supposed to. it better look like you. it s so real. i remember doing it a couple of years ago, it must be. i was killed off a year ago. but you look good for a dead guy. thanks very much. there s a real irony. also we should mention ear earlier talking about how this has had such a big impact on your lives. this has had an impact on you like no one else because of these movies you re now engaged, is this right, and it s not to harry potter. my personal stuff, yeah, i guess for all of us it s been a participate of all our lives. it s been lovely to sort of grow into grow up and grow into our characters and as people and to watch all of us grow into different kind of strong kas characters has been lovely. pretty much you were the youngest of us all when we started. i was 9. and now you re engaged to jamie bower, a fellow cast members. you guys must love that, right? that must be nice. the other thing i just watched the first harry potter with my younger kids and it really is amazing. you guys really have grown we have watched you grow up. james and oliver, you play the weasley twins, end up with the joke shop. when you watch those films back, do you are you amazed how young you were back then? we were 5 9 when we started and 6 3 now. we ve grown literally in that sense. it s like a whole movie, i guess, when you see those things. was my voice that high? it s embarrassing when you look back. and matthew lewis, this could be true for you because you actually play in neville longbottom a guy struggling with the whole puberty thing. definitely. i mean it in the best way. it s very close to home. it was cool to play the character. he was very shy and very weak and vulnerable and then with the guidance of harry potter really evolves and that was nice to come back and add more to it each time and do something slightly different with it. it was kind of cool. we have the deathly hallows coming up. it s a tremendous experience. we talk about everybody growing up. i think i m the only one who hasn t grown up. but amazing and i get to play two characters in there. a really wonderful experience and very sad to see it all come to a conclusion. we now have the wizarding world to live on as a legacy, i suppose. it s quite a legacy for all of you. tom, you re the guy everybody loves to hate. an mtv award, by the way. thank you very much. i had a youngster yesterday say straight out, i hate you. we love you. we love you. thank you so much. thank you. good luck ahead. thank you. now let s head back to new york and natalie. hey, al and ann, we have our own magic going on here on the plaza this morning, the magic of james taylor and carole king. they will be live in concert in just a few minutes. huge fan base here right here on the plaza. and a little trivia for all of you at home. in what year and what club in california did they first perform together? al, thank you. had morning five reasons why women may have trouble losing weight. it can be a frustrating ordeal to lose extra pounds especially when you think you re doing just about everything right. there may be some hidden health issues that keep the pounds on. medical editor for health magazine and a today contributor will tell us what we are doing wrong. if you re having trouble losing weight there could be hidden health issues that you may not be aware of, right? if you re really restricting calories, exercising, doing everything you re supposed to do but the pounds are still not coming off, you may have a medical condition that s making it much harder. let s go through the five reasons we re going to talk about today beginning with the sluggish thyroid. what does the thyroid do? it helps your metabolism and keep everything, all the processing of food and energy in check. if you have a sluggish or underactive thyroid, we call it hypo thyroidism, you will gain weight and keep them on. what are the things you should watch? you may have a very sensitive to the cold temperatures, so you re the one who always feels cold in the room, you get dry hair, brittle hair and nails. you may have constipation. you may have irritability or even depression. is there a test for that and where do you go to the doctor s office and what do they do? absolutely they do a test that s simple. a blood test detects thyroid stimulating hormone and if that level is too high it suggests that your thyroid is not working properly. and then how do they treat it? pretty simple. you get a synthetic thyroid medication and you take a pill every day. your doctor will monitor the levels to figure out the right dose for you and you ll feel better quickly. that s one of the obvious first things. next thing that could be out of whack, hormones. especially women. we go through so many hormonal changes during our life with pregnancy, breast-feeding, menopause. there s a condition pcos which is a real problem with your hormone levels including it testosterone and progesterone. if this is out of whack it can can cause weight gain and other symptoms to be on the lookout for. a lot of facial hair, excessive facial hair is one of them. again, irritability and anger is another sign of this. and you may gain weight particularly in your abdomen area because it s related to insulin resistance. and is it age related or is that something it can happen more with age. it s also something that happens with younger women who are having fertility problems. if you re having trouble conceiving, you should be checked for this. the next possible reason for retaining weight is choosing the wrong foods. is this related to foods that you actually may have some sort of allergic reaction to? right. so a true food allergy is something where your immune system is recognizing the food as foreign and attack iing it. what we re talking about here is intolerance. it s not really an allergy but they cause you to produce more gas, you may get more bloated which makes your belly bigger and you may retain water so you re going to gain weight although it s not true fat. so how do you know which foods may be having this reaction? it s not always easy to tell. there are common culprits. lactose is one. anything in dairy products. gluten can cause an intolerance. keep a food diary, write down everything you eat and how you feel on that particular day and you talk to your doctor about doing an elimination diet so you re gradually eliminating certain foods to see which ones make you feel better if you cut them out. hopefully that will give you the culprit and eliminate that food altogether. next, another one a lot of people is due to medications. certain pills can actually trigger you to be more bloated and retaining water and weight, right? right. and also just to actually develop more fat and gain weight. so the big culprits here are antidepressants. certain ones definitely make you gain weight. steroids is another medication that s very commonly associated with this and oral contraceptives. talk to your doctor about changing a dose, switching to a different medicine. you should never stop any of these on your own. very important to make sure you consult with the doctor on the medication. and another thing to note, this doesn t always happen right away so you may have been on a medication for a year and developed this side effect. okay. and then finally there could be just unexplained weight gain. what could be some of the things that are triggering this? so this is not just having trouble losing weight but you suddenly start to gain weight, particularly your abdomen, it could be rarely a sign of something very serious. for example, even a tumor or if you re retaining fluid and that has weight with it, in your legs, abdomen, lungs, it could be a sign of organ failure, your heart, your kidneys, your liver. this is a sign you need to see your doctor urgently. what testing will be doctor recommend if he suspects there might be something health related here? they re going to run blood tests to check the function of your kidneys, your liver, a check x-ray, an ekg to check the functioning of your heart and probably an abdominal ultrasound to see if there s fluid around your organs. and there could be urgent causes here if you re talking about something related to the heart or other organs? [ female announcer ] splenda®. america s favorite no calorie sweetener. after six seasons of drama producers of the mtv smash hit the hills have decided it s time for the sun to set on the reality show. and as one of the highest-rated cable series in history the hills has made audrina patridge a hollywood it girl as well as a tabloid fixture. hi, audrina. yeah, you get with all the fame and fortune you get the other side of it, too, don t you? you do. you really do. especially after six years of being on a reality show. you know, i get advice from everyone, everywhere i go, from moms to grandmas at the mall, and why are you with that guy? you need to do this. and it s like, oh. what was the biggest reaction you got? what was that about? gosh. whenever one of the times i went back well, this is just one of the times. back to justin in a previous season. and that was a a huge no-no. nobody liked at all. and everywhere i went i was getting advice and lectured. and i was like all right. now it s sort of in the rearview mirror just about, when you look back on those six years, are you glad that you chose that path? do you wish you would have chosen another path? or what do you think? no. i feel it s really made me who i am today. and it s made me have thick skin. and i m really i m a stronger person now because you learn not to listen to rumors or gossip or to try to avoid what things you know, the things that people say about you. the negativity. yeah. speaking of rumors and gossip not that we re into that. but our viewers want to no. what should we make of heidi s surgeries, all these multiple, multiple surgeries? well, the first time that i saw her after the surgeries it was actually in one of the episodes, and i was kind of expecting dish think we were all expecting her to kind of look like overly done. like we were saying like catwoman or something. but when she showed up, she actually didn t look that bad. but i do think she s a little young for did you talk to her about it, or is it one of those things i talked to her about it. on camera. but that s about it. do you guys still communicate now when you re off camera? no. i haven t seen her since they left the show. she s apparently trying to get another reality show going with saying that she s now divorcing what s his name, spencer and all of that? i don t know either. are you going to go this route next? are you going to do something realitiwise again? you re working with mark burnett on something. i m working with mark burnett. it s another reality show. but ultimately, i moved to l.a. to be an actress. so and i did sorority row. and another one too into the blue too. so that s my ultimate goal. i just would love to do movies only and not reality. you said you ve got a thick skin. i would imagine, it must be sort of weird for everyone to understand that sometimes regular anyone walking down the street feels like they can talk to you about your life. their opinions. how do you deal with that on a daily basis? i mean, i just smile and nod. i m like thanks for the advice. i don t really know what else to say. but i mean, a lot of people do feel like they know me and they can relate to me with a lot of the situations that i ve been through. so it s kind of nice take talk to my fans about something they can relate to and give them advice. what would they apparently, you re with ryan cabrera again in the upcoming season, right? yeah. and you break up. we broke up. we actually broke up a couple days after my birthday. and i know this week s episode they showed us at wango tango, which is really hard for me because we d broken up four days prior to wango tango and i still had to go and watch him sing all these love songs. that s sad. yeah. i only stayed for a little bit. then had i to leave. move on, honey. there are so many great guys in the world. you re young. yes. how do you know if guys like you because of who you are or because of your notoriety? the notoriety, korea. that s really hard. i think that s why i always go back to exes or people that i knew before the show. because it is hard. i mean, i meet people guys who are like hey, let me film with you and bring my friends on, we ll do a fake romance. i m like, i don t know that s really what we re all looking for in life, right? a fake romance. well, we wish you all the very best. good luck with everything. thanks, hon. thank you so much. okay. and later what are we going to do? we re going to talk about a lot of oh. what, are they playing cards up there? a lot of [ bleep ]. thank you. and a little later it s ambush friday. so we re going to show you some of our ambushees after this. [ barks ] long live your buddy. oh, max! long live your dog. purina puppy chow and purina dog chow. when award-winning filmmaker dana glazer s wife gave birth to their son charlie it was dana who became the stay at home caregiver. and that decision caused dana to reflect on his own life and the role of fatherhood, which led to his latest project, a documentary called the evolution of dad. let s take a look. i love being with him. who s that? seeing him grow. watching him figure things out. learning as much from him as he did from me. and then came jamie, and i watched him get bigger and was amazed at how different he is from his brother. plabble. flappy. snerf. but at the same time i often felt like a failure, and i felt alone and, okay, i ll admit it, i felt like something less than a man. wow. what a confession to make. dana, so nice to have you. and happy father s day. thank you very much. was that a fleeting feeling, or did that last for quite a while, that feeling? it lingered. and it really, you know, brought me to making this film, because i felt like this was an untold story, you that you know, there are a lot of fathers who have very conflicting feelings about what it means to be a dad. i love that you found other dads, too, who were in a similar situation and some of them said they felt emasculated but liberated or i don t remember the exact line. yes. but i thought that was interesting. they felt like in the beginning they were less than but then later realized they really weren t. is there anything really more important than raising our children? i don t think so. there really isn t. but it s traditionally been a mother s role. and you probably don t want to get into the circumstances. but all the different men were home dads or stay at-home dads for different reasons i m sure. they weren t all stay at home dads. we have a divorced dad who is a lawyer and has his children for 50-50 of the time, which is fairly unheard of. and was that working out well? so far so good for him. because that s hard on the children too. absolutely. we have another stay-at-home dad who was he was a stay-at-home dad and now he s working full-time. so it s a very fluid role. that s the thing about fatherhood. what are you find free throw men that you talked to when it came to if they are a stay-at-home dad how are they managing it? how do they deal with it when friends say what are you doing, you re not working and stuff like that? different dads manage it differently. i think there s more of an acceptance of this now and it will be increasingly so as time goes on. i think it s all, you know, moving in a good direction. but not yet, though. because there s still you know what i mean. there s still a stigma. there is. absolutely there s still a stigma. especially if the wife is extremely successful. don t you find? if the woman is very successful and the man is staying at home with the children. i think it exists. i think it s wrong. but i still think that fathers are doing the most important job in the entire world. the whole point of the film is for us to value a father and his relationship with his kid and, you know, to go beyond what it means to be, you know, the wallet size. that s so often how people perceive their value as a dad. we want to move past that. i think it was interesting too how you talked to daughters and sons and some of them were saying like i didn t know my dad. all he did was work. and i think that s probably the case for a lot of people. they sort of missed their father because he was busy making a living. and they often learn that too late in life, don t they? nobody on their casket wants to have on their tombstone i should have worked more. it s a cliche because it so often is the truth. how can anyone see this documentary? you can go to www.evolutionofdad.com and you can order it straight off of the website. it s the wave of the future. that s right. very happy father s day. thank you. great to see you too. thank you. okay. still to come, the movies dads might want to take their kids to see this weekend. are we going to have a preview? i think we are. i wonder who s giving it to us. i can t even imagine. but up next four recipes that will leave you wanting s more. get it? s more. after this. girl scouts only like the adult version a little bit later on. good. that s what we like. i thought there was a s more, just a s more. but you say no, there s more to a s more. it s a s mores galore today, ladies. we re going to start with these exotic ones that are so fabulous. i thought, you know, swap out the traditional s mores ingredients and go exotic in celebration of summer. so these are coffee liqueur marshmallows, rosemary marshmallows, mint marshmallows, homemade, easy to do, and we re going to pair them with chocolates like ginger chocolate, almond chocolate, and white chocolate. and a great party idea. this is a tabletop grill with canned fuel. so you can just pick up a kalua or rosemary, give it a little roaster. i like to catch mine on fire. i love to catch mine on fire and burn it. we ll do this in nantucket when we go in a week or so. this is perfect. i actually did these as appetizers for my husband s party. there you go. now you re getting a little brown action. we re excellent cooks. and you compare it with that. here are some premade ones. and marshmallows are super easy to make. you boil corn syrup, sugar for a while, you mix it with water and gelatin, and then you put it in a casserole diesh like this. why would one make one when you go to the store and get them like this? because see how flexible this is? that s a marshmallow? looks lying my thighs. but these are low fat. they re non-fat. what are you saying? you look gorgeous. didn t i tell you how much i loved you? but enough about me. you want to cook with canned fuel inside the house, and not charcoal. no-bake s mores silky toasted oh, that looks good. you can just dig into it. it s like a sweet nachos. that looks so delicious. so this is super easy. this is instant puding and pie filling in a graham cracker crust. swap out cream for milk. make the recipe on the box. it makes more of a velvety moussy like texture. then you pile it with the s mores ingredients, then you broil it for 30 seconds. to get the top nice and brown. people love this idea. so simple. i do like that. we re not counting calories obviously here today. no, we re not. are we going to eat anything or you can. you can eat the s mores. you can take a bite out of that. what is this one? that one, let s see, that s the rosemary marshmallow and a ginger chocolate, i believe. and it s delicious. moving to the adult stuff, please. this was inspired bay simpsons episode. i have a 6-year-old girl and she wants her hot chocolate with a graham cracker. i used a jet puff cream from a jar. and then to make the s mores in the oven you just put them in the oven for 30 seconds and you broil them. let s have a toast. these are s mores martinis. these couldn t be easier to make. you just dip the martini glass in chocolate and then in graham cracker crust. you pour it on in. what is that you re pouring on in? good. good. you have two. one you love. one was a home run. what was the home run movie? toy story 3 is a winner. it s definitely a winner. i don t think pixar can do wrong. their digital animation is kind of unrivaled right now, and it has been for the past, you know, 15 years. since 1995. i loved it. i think i m sitting next to this little girl in the theater, a 7-year-old little girl and she s laughing her head off the whole time. and i m sitting there like wrestling with themes of like leaving home and feeling like you don t matter. and i m, you know, like all scholarly about it, and she s cracking up the whole time. then at the end i m really, you know, i hate to say it about these little toys, but i m moved. i m touched. i m a 20-year-old guy and i m sitting there like i m glad i had 3-d glasses on. but i mean that s what movies are about. you know? does it reach the levels that the first and second did? because we don t like another sequel unless it can either reach or eclipse go beyond the originals. i remember seeing the first and second when i was a little kid, obviously. and there s a imagine toik every pixar movie. this one you experience that magic again as an adult for me, and i think it s probably even better than the second one, in my opinion. you re not an adult yet. all right? you re still under my roof. legally i m an adult. we re not going to go into that. and there s one you hated. come on. hate s a strong word. you re going to get into trouble with people on the west coast. this one s called jonah hex. tell us about it. jonah hex is about a confederate soldier who disobeys his commanding officer s orders, and his family is murdered in front of him. and he s emotionally scarred, physically scarred as you can see. as you can see. that s josh brolin, right? yeah. and it s just there s a lot of violence. the pg-13 rating, it definitely pushes limit on that one. i think it should be r, cody. there s so much gratuitous violence in this. what do you think? i think there is. but along with that the mafth s motivation s not really there for some of the characters. i have issues with the script. megan fox is in it, though. she s beautiful. she s one of the sexiest women on the planet in my opinion. really? yeah. she s pretty cute. she s cute. but every woman she s been in so far she s been, you know, kind of objectified. and this one from the first frame her pulling up a sto stocking it s every kid s fantasy, isn t it?
