In the UK it is customary to receive a personalised message from the queen on your 100th birthday – such is the relative rarity of reaching the milestone.
Reaching such a ripe old age isn't uncommon among the British ruling family – in fact, my analysis shows that on average they live an additional 30 years compared with their subjects.
I looked at the duration of life of the last six British monarchs, along with the longevity of their spouses and children – in total 27 royals. What it reveals is a fascinating and familiar story for those of us who study ageing and longevity for a living. As a professor of epidemiology and biostatistics, I had previously observed the exact same phenomenon among US presidents – they also tend to live decades longer than the general population they serve.

Whanganui leaders and royal enthusiasts have paid tribute to Prince Philip, who died on Friday just two months shy of his 100th birthday.
Mayor Hamish McDouall said Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, played a
pivotal role in the life of the longest reigning British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
"He's been alongside our Queen her entire reign. He was obviously a great support to her and helped her through some difficult times. My sympathy is with the Queen and to the Royal Family."

Residents of Te Herekiekie St, Tūrangi, will be treated on Saturday, March 13 to a double celebration — the launch of a children's picture book set in the 2004 Tongariro River flood, and the 100th
birthday of the truck featured in the story.
Old Truck and the Flood is told from the viewpoint of 'Old Truck', a 1921 Model 10 Republic, trapped by the floodwaters in a garage on Te Herekiekie St.
The flood in February 2004 caused the Tongariro River to burst its banks at Te Herekiekie St, Tūrangi, with residents evacuated and an estimated 30 homes in the street inundated by floodwaters. Stopbanks were later constructed between the street end and the river.

100th day of protests: Indian farmers plan major road blockade outside capital

NEW DELHI: Indian farmers who have been protesting for months against deregulation of produce markets plan to block a major expressway outside New Delhi on Saturday, the 100th day of their campaign, they said, foreign media reported.
Tens of thousands have been camped outside Delhi since December, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeal three farm laws that open up the country’s agriculture markets to private companies, which the farmers say will make them vulnerable. Farmers from the northern states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh plan to stop all traffic on the six-lane Western Peripheral Expressway that forms a ring outside New Delhi for up to five hours, union leaders said on Friday.“We believe that after these 100 days, our movement will put a moral pressure on the government to accede to our demands, because the weather will also worsen,” said Darshan Pal, spokesperson for the farmer unions’ coalition Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), or United Farmers’ Front. “It will weaken the government, which will have to sit down with us to talk again.”

England skipper Joe Root hit a century in his 100th Test, but needed a helping hand from Virat Kohli as the length of his impressive innings took its toll.
Root entered the fray in the First Test against India with England 2/63 in the 26th over but was still standing at stumps on 128 not out and his side 3/263.
He had to be helped back to his feet at one point late in the day after suffering from leg cramps.
Kohli, who was an abrasive character early in his career but has been winning hearts in recent years, including when he defended Steve Smith from an abusive crowd at the 2019 World Cup, was on hand to help his opposite number stretch his calf. And cricket fans loved it.

Root's double-century in 100th test puts England in control against India

England captain Joe Root became the first batsman to smash a double-hundred in his 100th test, crafting a massive 218 runs to put his team in charge of the opening match against India in Chennai on Saturday.
