alternate. so it's just as important to have alternates that and pay attention to the alternative at it is as it is for the main jurors in this particular case, because there's a real good shot that one of them may be on that jury panel down the road, or more than one because yesterday we saw to jurors who were seated earlier in the week, replaced. do you think this current jury and its alternates will hold and are six internet some your opinion enough i think six alternates are probably enough. >> in my experience, i believe that will be enough. i think it's good that they gave them extra strikes as it relates to the alternate. i think that shows that they're paying the court is also understands that these alternates are also important. so i think they have enough alternatives. >> i think they could have one or one or more replaced, but you never know, right to trials have take on a life of their own and the facts arise as they, as the case unfolded. so i think we're at the wait and see yeah. >> good point. assuming things

has gone down from 22, they are still getting that extra five minutes. you'll see about 30 minutes on each side to go over the various questions that they think are are important whether or not these people, particularly what we've seen with the defense, right. questions about how do you feel about donald trump. >> even more importantly, in the numbers to chris and we know that michelle peremptory strikes. the ten that each side had. that's not the same factor any longer now, ram the alternates part of it here we're interestingly enough, normally in a corporate ceo didn't you wouldn't want your jurors to know their alternates. it might create an incentive not to pay as close attention, but in this context, the alternatives might not only be necessary, they might have to assume from the role of actual jurors during deliberations, if one were excused. so now the parties have additional strikes. i'm learning that's right. >> so it's actually very interesting. they had ten strikes for justice, fill the box. now they have two strikes per seat. so remember, just the way that they do this. every alternate, it's essentially given a number through here, these as they goes through to

the judge, with a some of the attorneys excuse those jurors. uh, but now that we have the full set of alternatives and the 12 jurors that were selected yesterday, the judge told all the jurists before and i see them today to be ready to go on monday and then we'll have opening statements in this case. so certainly a historic moment having the full panel of jurors now seated two here former president trump's first criminal trial related to the falsified documents this afternoon after the lunch break, the judge is going to take up what's known as the sandoval hearing and that is the hearing where they will discuss the scope of the cross-examination if donald trump does choose to testify, and that means whether the prosecution can ask them about certain pass legal acts that includes a number of these verdicts and judgments against trump, including the e jean carroll defamation case and the civil fraud judgment. that way as handed down earlier this year, that will all be discussed this afternoon. trump's attorneys are pushing back on that, but that will also learn a little bit more about what the prosecution's

a a juror that's been empaneled on the initial 12 experiences and while the alternative experience. >> so the alternate, i mean, really they should experience the same thing in terms of receiving all of the evidence and observing all of the proceedings because the purpose of the alternatives is that in any circumstance that a sitting juror can't continue to serve, and there could be a whole variety of reasons. there could be something that actually comes up like we've seen earlier in this week where someone has then dismissed that indicates the judge decides that person can't sit on the jury anymore, and you know, it could be someone talks to the media. i mean, there's a whole range of issues or it could be something personal of nature. somebody gets sick or it has a family issue, and so they just can't continue to serve. so those alternatives, particularly in this case given the scrutiny that both the prosecutors and the defense are going to give the jurors on an ongoing basis. i think these alternates are so important they might wind up getting called a fairly quickly care record arrow. thanks so much for the analysis. appreciate it. jessica.

president trump and his criminal history. and what if he takes the stand, he can be asked about cnn's laura coates is outside the new york courthouse okay. >> laura, we now look ahead to this afternoon& for monday when we're we're expecting opening arguments i mean, history is being made as you know, this is a former president united states on trial criminally about 15 floors above us right here outside of a manhattan courtroom there are 18 jurors who will be impacted, and panel that includes six alternates. >> and of course, the 12 jurors who were already 2nd to be the ones to deliberate now, those alternative would be very important still, because those alternatives will likely or might be high opportunity to actually deliberate in full. i want to get now to kara scannell, who has been in and out of the courtroom all day today on this wealth frankly, a surreal de, but one of the surreal aspects of this includes an american president on trial, and he has been closely watching all the taking place. >> yeah, he has been we saw yesterday. he was very engaged

in jury selection in the question and the answers today, he was he was slipping through papers on the desk keep. but then when his lawyer for started questioning the jurors and asking about their views of donald trump. he was very engaged. again, he had turned his chair again. he was craning his neck. he was looking to the look at the jurors as they were speaking and giving their opinions of him. there we're not as many people today in the jury box for the alternatives that had as strong of opinions as we heard in the prior days of the questioning, but they did challenge a few on their social media post going back several years but a lot of the jurors in the wells said that they either had neutral views of him or they didn't essentially didn't have any real strong views. and so this alternate process actually went pretty quickly once they got to the point where they had gone through all of the vor, deer and all of the questioning of 20 two jurors that were in the box, but he was definitely engaged. he was looking at them all as they were responding to

Trump Trial Today

politically unpopular in the borough of manhattan in new york county. and he is correct as a factual matter, if we look back at the 20 2020 election, donald trump got a little over 12% of the vote and manhattan, and that's the only borough where we're drawing our jury from. just by comparison, in staten island donald trump got 57% of the vote. we go to queens. he got 27% of the vote. he got 22 and brooklyn& he got about 16 in the bronx. that's said this is not the test for moving a case out to another venue. it's not about whether a person's popular or unpopular, it's about whether the person can get a legally fair trial. and the prosecutors team today pointed to jury selection. they said, look, we just read it out. hundreds of people who said, i'm to bias, i can't sit on this case and they argued the jury we ended up with as the result of a fair process. therefore, the cation stay in manhattan, and manhattan, it shall stay. >> all right. who are the alternatives? who got seated today? ally? >> so now we have our final alternate jurors. these are

but i've been here all day on i trial that really is a very unfair trial. >> all of these are stewards of legal experts, sitting how this is not a case and jeremy now trial attorney imran ansari. >> imran, thank you so much for being with us this morning what is your sense of it? i mean, i think one of the things that's taken a lot of folks by surprises, how quickly they've been able to put this jury together, even though we had a couple of jurors go by the wayside yesterday, they were able to essentially get a almost a full jury with a full slate of alternatives together yeah, jim, my first reaction as the events of this week unfolded was that it was a quick jury selection process. >> i expected that it would go on more than one week. we see that it's almost wrapping up here with one alternate already picked the main 12 jurors seated and five alternates or so to go. it was a quick jury selection, of course, some issues arising during that jury
