chairman bennie thompson. we started here in south carolina, because all the great things happen here in south carolina, but it's also because of the historic nature of the issues and the rights that have been won in places like south carolina. so, yes, the congressional black caucus institute and members of the cbc will be traveling across the country this summer, doing three things. number one, helping to educate our constituents about what is at stake with the decisions coming down from that supreme court on voting rights, on affirmative action, on attacks, on fundamental dissidents happening in states, banning books, black history, these are issues that we will not be silenced on. the second thing, we are focused on voter registration, and making sure that every eligible voters knows how much power they have to make change in local state and federal elections. third, we are focused on organizing. talking to local constituents
so the parents will blow the whistle if they see something like pornographic books in the middle school library. of course that is not appropriate and so they will do that and that book should not be there. the media, they try to say that this is, quote, banning books, but what you have in a school, you have to make judgments about what's appropriate or not. it doesn't mean you as adults can't buy these books, some of them i don't know why you would buy, but they are available in florida. go ahead and knock yourself out if you want to do that, but that's much different than what should be in front of a 10-year-old school child. so the media when they talk about book ban, understand, that is a hoax. they are creating a false narrative. we actually did a press conference that we titled "exposing the book ban hoax." before i had any of the parents talk, before i even talked, we played a short video that just showed what it was the parents were objecting to. it had some graphic images, it
only at your own risk because that state is against you. i mean, whatever your politics are whether you agree with what these republicans and republican governors and legislatures are doing in the state, you still can see this isn't exactly a thrilling national platform on which republican candidates are going to be eager to run for the white house next year, right? like jailing librarians, banning abortion, banning books, undoing desegregation orders for schools, getting rid of child labor laws, right? regardless of who their standard bearer is going to be it's either going to be donald trump or it's going to be somebody else who has this record of current models in republican governance to run. and regardless of, you know, who their standard bearer is going
