situation for the thousands of men and women who are on the front lines all across the west. lester? >> miguel almaguer tonight, thank you. in the meantime, we're keeping a close eye on what is now the first hurricane churning in the atlantic this year, hurricane danny. dylan dreyer is here with us. dylan, where is it headed? >> lester, it's headed right towards puerto rico and should reach it by early next week. not surprising we're talking about the first hurricane of the season right now because el nino limits the number of atlantic storms, a very small tightly compact hurricane, category one storm right now but it should weaken to be a tropical storm by the time it makes its way into the leeward islands by monday and eventually puerto rico on tuesday. it's running into an unfavorable environment. we have strong upper level winds that will essentially rip apart this storm system which is good news. for puerto rico. they need the rain from a tropical system to help with the drought, but they don't need the wind from a stronger storm. it's way too early to determine what happens after
