Germany issues world's strongest recommendation for mixing Covid-19 vaccines

Germany issues world's strongest recommendation for mixing Covid-19 vaccines
Germany has issued what appears to be the strongest recommendation anywhere for the mixing of Covid-19 vaccines on efficacy grounds.
The German Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) said Thursday that people who receive a first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine "should get an mRNA vaccine as their second dose, regardless of their age."
This makes Germany one of the first countries to strongly recommend that people who have received a first dose of AstraZeneca receive either a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine as their second dose.

Rare but serious blood clots that have been linked to the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine (marketed as Covishield in India) have many people — especially those who have already had one dose of the vaccine — looking for information. Here are answers to some key questions.
If I had a first dose of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, should I have concerns about safety?
As long as there is a risk, you should always be aware and informed. A risk of very serious harm, including death, does exist, though it is very small: about one in 55,000 for the first dose.

Canada's health authority says benefits of AstraZeneca vaccine 'far outweigh risks'

Canadian health authorities still recommend the AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine after a rare case of blood clotting affected someone who had been administered the shot.
The patient, who lives in the western province of Alberta and received a version of the AstraZeneca vaccine supplied by the Serum Institute of India, "has received treatment and is recovering," Canadian health authorities wrote on Twitter.
Canada reported its first case of blood clotting associated with low platelets on Tuesday in a Quebec woman who received the same shot.
Blood clot formations linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine "remain very rare" and Canada still believes that the vaccine's benefits "outweigh the potential risks," Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada said.
