Turkey raises its key interest rate to 15% for the first time in two years

Turkey's central bank had to hit hard to reassure markets. It raises its key rates to 15%. This is a little less than expected, but a radical remedy to curb inflation. At the helm, there is Mehmet Simsek the new Minister of Finance. This measure will not be enough, according to Deniz Unal, a specialist in the Turkish economy at Cepi. "Erdogan wants to keep his electorate by giving them advantages," she says. "This rate hike is a lure, the strategy will not change," she adds.
