moving ahead with some of the lesser, i guess, challenges that they have announced thus far? >> reporter: i think they would like for her to have that chance. we have seen the last year that she has struggled to kind of get some of her legs politically beneath her because she has been out of the realm for so long. i think they would like there to be a challenger but the fact at this point, she is so far ahead in the polls compared to some of these other democratic contenders. it's even unclear, for instance, in vice president joe biden will throw his hat into the ring and a lot think he won't. i think some close to hillary clinton think this is what they are dealing with. she is going to be competing a lot against republicans, perhaps not so much against democrats. it's this really sort of a strange campaign in a way that this is where she is at and this is who she is competing against. it's almost unprecedented. >> brianna keilar for us from

look, rand paul, republicans, at this point, are the party of trickle down economics. and that has failed the american people. too many democrats have not offered an alternative. you know i believe strongly that's what happened in 2014, democrats did not offer a progressive economic vision. and voters didn't move to democrats. a lot of democratic voters stayed home because they didn't hear anything meaningful from their fellow democratic candidates. so i think there is an opportunity here to break with the past, to break with what is wrong with washington, by offering a bold vision that actually talks to what the american people are going through. look, progressives around the country are saying this. this has created a primary-like dynamic on the substance. progressives are demanding from all of our candidates an actual vision on economic change. we had a meeting of progressive leaders last week. we'll offer it next month, a progressive contract with america to say, if you're serious, you got to be ready to tax the wealthy, you got to be ready to raise wages and benefits, you got to be ready to have tax fairness in this country. that's a chance to say, hey,

in our party that wins the nomination because they'll have convinced my party they are the best person to carry the banner. i think we've got a great chance of winning. senator cruz has got to prove to the american people that he's got the judgment experience and temperament to the president of the united states. that he can solve problems in washington. one of the problems i've had with senator cruz is that his goal of shutting down the government to bring about policy changes, to shut down the entire federal government unless barack obama repealed obamacare never made much sense to me. i think it hurt our party. i like him a lot. but at the end of the day the next commander in chief needs to prove -- next candidate for president needs to prove they can be a commander in chief on day one, get the world put back together and actually get something done in washington where both parties have to participate. as to hillary clinton, her biggest problem is that her fingerprints are all over this failed foreign policy and she was there for president obama selling obamacare and his domestic agenda better than he

would hillary clinton make a good president. >> i think she would continue the policies of this president because she was his secretary of state. trust me she did not fight effectively for a foreign policy that's working. she empowered a failed foreign policy and when it comes to obamacare, bill and hillary clinton did a better job of selling it than barack obama, so at the end of the day here's her challenge. here's how i'm different than barack obama. here's why my foreign policy will be better than his, because the world is literally on fire. from an economic point of view, here's what i would do differently than barack obama. so if she can make a case that she's different than him then she'll have a chance. if she can't, game set, match. >> well let's just stay there on foreign policy. she wasn't the president and she did -- >> no but she's secretary of state. >> right. but she did advocate exactly what you wanted on syria when it came to arm being the rebels a few years ago. she didn't win but she tried. >> sure.

sanjay gupta has more. >> reporter: a retired heart surgeon occasionally does his own yard work and walks regularly and still drives. you drove here today? >> driving is nothing! i worked until i was 95 assisting, mind you. i could have done heart surgery but it wouldn't have been fair to the patient because sometimes you need reserve strength. if you gave me something to memorize, i would memorize is just as quickly now as i would when i was 20. >> reporter: how is your health? >> oh, superb. i haven't got an ache or a pain. >> reporter: the great grandfather believed his plant-based diet plays a big part in all of this. >> if your blood cholesterol is under 150 your chance of a heart attack is pretty small. mine is under 17 so no chance i'll have a heart attack. i'm dealing in an area which i understand. >> reporter: perhaps another key to his longevity not letting problems weigh him down. how big of a role does stress play in your life? >> you've asked the wrong person! i have a philosophy you do the best you can and the things you

courageous. and it made me really respect her all the more. i disagreed with her vehemently on the war, but i was so happy when she said "i was wrong." and, look when she was secretary of state, the reputation of america was down as low as it's ever been in history. and she restored the reputation of our nation. and so i think she brings to this every quality you you'd want to have. and the republicans are going to beat her up morning, noon and night, and i think she will stand up to it. she's been around the block a few times on this and i think it will bring more people to her side. >> senator, you mention the fact that you don't buy the idea that she needs a democratic primary fight. there will be some opponents on the left maybe nominal, maybe more -- we'll see how it plays out. lincoln chaffee is somebody who says that he's more than likely to go et in and run against her. i talked to him this morning. is it worth it? do these guys have a chance? should they even bother? >> oh i think anyone that has

>> you know, it's ridiculous to think that they're a threat to our national security. >> rand paul is wrong and dangerous. >> governor, is rand paul too soft on national security? >> well, we're going to get a better chance to see exactly where rand paul is on these issues. he wasn't a senator ten years ago. he is now a united states senator. he is experiencing what's happening in the world and i think as he gets greater perspective, he will be very clear on where he stands on foreign policy issues and we'll give him the benefit of the doubt, take what he says today and that will be the platform he runs with as a candidate for president if he gets into this race. >> well, no, he's in the race. he got in last week. i know it's hard -- >> i'm sorry. i haven't kept my score card up as to who is actually officially in and who is just kind of in. >> so, let me ask you a foreign policy question because you've been quite critical of president obama's negotiation with iran. what i want to ask you is, what's the alternative?

an aa and an na, a da, a ca. as long as -- and it's positive, i don't care. for me rebecca is dangerous. for me if i got out of here and hung around here, there would probably be a 60% chance that i would end up using with her. that is not that i don't like her. i love her. i love her as a person. i just -- i can't place myself around people who aren't ready to change their life. >> coming up -- >> some of the sponsors i had -- no offense -- were scandalous and very deceitful. >> prove her wrong by staying clean. >> a former addict reaches out to rebecca goodman. and -- >> we average probably about 70 or 80 coroner's runs per month. >> one of the jail's inmate
